Hello! I’m Vivienne, the châtelaine of a small 19th century neo-Renaissance castle in the Loire Valley of France, which I share with my delightful (and wonderfully funny!) husband, Simon, our daughter, pets, and -whenever possible- lovely friends and family.
This is not our first chateau! 20 years ago, we bought a much larger castle nearby, which we loved with all our hearts. However, nearly 18 years, many happy memories, countless renovations, and several small fortunes later, we made the very difficult, empty-nesting decision to downsize. With great luck and perseverance, we found our current petit château, which we are now decorating and updating with love, humour, comfort, and -of course- antiques and art!
We adore France and its many unique facets: its people, culture, landscapes, wine, food, art, and history. We also love being surrounded by châteaux, both public and private, which we can explore together! After 20 years here, we have learned many things about living in France, renovating châteaux, and appreciating the extraordinary riches surrounding us. We originally decided to make these videos as a way to share our lives with our loved ones worldwide during the pandemic lockdowns. However, we soon realised that many others are at home alone, and it is our privilege to open our home to you, our new friends. We hope you will join us on our adventures in this exceptional location, and we look forward to sharing a little Château Love!

Greetings from the Isle of Capri,,, We are in the process of renovating a 16th century villa we purchased in 2006 so I can certainly appreciate all of the work that is involved in restoring this chateau. Thank you both for your commitment to producing these fantastic windows into history! You do an excellent job. My, what a special atmosphere this Chateau has! The feel of the original fortification hasn’t been all lost in later additions and remodeling! And what marvelous treasures pf tapestry, books and furnishings that remain there! I’m sure the new owners will breathe new life and vibrancy into this property, SO alltogether wonderful that they decided to invite the whole villeage in and want to connect this historic landmark to the local community! They seem like great guys and wonderful hosts to this future B&B and events palace! ❤️ I can only imagine this beautiful view with added fields of sunflowers! I’ve never seen the Gascogne but very much appreciate the crispy whites, especially with seafood 😋

Great job showing us Mark and Phillips house at last! We met/spoke with them this time last year when they were still hunting. So happy for them but a lot to do in the future. I'm sure it was wonderful to learn/speak to you and your previous journeys with remodeling. What wonderful Brocantes you guys found. Hi Jan, good question! Yes, Simon & I have “real” jobs also! Some of the other châtelains have inherited their homes, are running them as businesses, are starting second careers after retiring from their first careers, or are financially stable enough to afford the purchase, renovation, and maintenance without conventional jobs. No two situations are the same, but you are correct that they are expensive! Our chateau is not as big as some of the others (which are massive!), so it’s quite manageable.
