Boy, Patti, these came out great -- but where's the glitter ? -- one reason the video you watched failed may have been because she didn't use the silicone -- try actually putting a drop or two between the colors, which will help to keep them separate -- I don't know. I love floetrol -- I love doing this, too -- another method you can use, which is my favorite, is the smear -- you turn your cup upside down so all the paint comes out, but you can also control the flow of the paint with the cup, and then take a long icing spatula -- I got one at the thrift store -- and smear the paint -- the Martha Stewart gold is the best metallic paint I've found-- I did a record album which came out so cool; I flipped the cup upside down, but then I didn't lift it up all the way and just a little and went around the album (I saw that on YT); it came out fantastic -- I call it the dark side of Jupiter; I did it when the space probe was by Jupiter - I also put the Triple Thick on all of my paintings -- and the record album -- using this technique -- another cool technique is to use a pro heat gun, that painters use, not the craft ones, and you can blister the paint -- it will come up in bubbles, and it gives the surface texture -- so cool. When you look down at the painting, it looks like a river flowing between mountains -- I also add a layer of white in the middle of whatever colors I'm using, it helps give it some contrast -- I made a lot of beach pictures, and it looks like cresting waves -- I hope you and the hubs and the fur babies are all doing well -- my cat had kittens -- four little silver beautiful kittens -- the plan was to adopt them out, but they're so cute ......

I have avoided doing this. I know I'll go overboard. LoL When the pour is called dirty, it's because all the colors come from the one cup. Your shells look gorgeous! I have a fishbowl that's begging for a pour. 😆

Dawn, this is the coolest way to spend an afternoon! And you're onto something. Once I started this I could not stop. Another cool thing? I have been collecting paints for way too long, I loved being able to use them all for practice. I got to know things that you only learn as you go. Do the fishbowl!!! hugs girlie!

Beautiful! I could watch you all day! Could these go outside?
@patioelf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephanie and thank you! That's very sweet. To put them outside I would use something called Spar Varnish instead of the Triple Thick. The spar varnish is available in a spray and it makes things both waterproof and UV proof. Patti

Shells r beautiful. I love the colors used. I really want to try this on a canvas. I would like to know if i could use other paint, because I would like for students to do this as a fun project. Any suggestions?
@melindaostergren45225 жыл бұрын
The paint must be acrylic. You can use any kind from cheap kid craft paint to really expensive artists tubes. Even house paint! Check out Deliberately Creative. She does great videos for beginners. As always, I love all of Patti’s videos...well, except I’m not a glitter person 🤠

Can a pour be done on glass?
@bonniemosesart2 жыл бұрын
I think the flame is to pop any tiny air bubbles, correct? I've always added my silicone to my paint colors, then with a swipe, the cells are activated. But I'm a newbie and could be incorrect.
@jennybarbanera41055 жыл бұрын
I'm anxious to do this because I have a ton of shells in a closet, just waiting for inspiration to strike. Most pouring I've seen is on flat surfaces. It seems like the paint would run off and blend too much on a curved surface if it's too thin. Would you make the paint a little thicker for shells vs canvas?

So cool 💛👏

How long did you let the shells cure before you coated them with the triple thick?
@patioelf5 жыл бұрын
Sorry I didn't mention that Claudia. I let them cure over night once I finished them. I would say about 20 hours total. Patti

I've been paint pouring oyster shells with craft paint and glue al medium. My colors, however, are not vibrant and my pours turn "muddy" quickly without much manipulation. Should I be using heavier based paints (tube paints) vs craft for more vibrant colors that don't run so much? I do test the paints for similar consistency before I pour. Thank you!

This looks so much fun watching. Id like to try it but just to be clear, can I just use craft glue and water or do i need the floetrol as well? And when do you mix this with the paint?
@patioelf3 жыл бұрын
hi Maryrose, I have seen other videos where they didn't use the floetrol and they said they couldn't figure out why the project hadn't worked as well. The Floetrol is easy to find in any hardware store and a little goes a long way, since it's made especially for paints I try to stick with that. :)

Could someone please tell me what gesso is ?
@patioelf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Pat! It was the original chalk paint! Used by artists to smooth out canvas before they painted. But it also works over other un-smooth surfaces. ;) Sorry I didn't mention that. Patti

The ones in craft stores I’ve always seen a real. They’re very common types. I get your POV, but many places in the US allow collecting on beaches. Collecting rare ones from the sea is a whole different matter. Thanks for sharing your POV!
@katterkat582 жыл бұрын
I never heard of collecting sea shells is illegal. I thought it was only illegal to get shells out of the ocean unless you are a licenced fisherman fishing for food sources.
