Thanks for the vid. FYI: After first filling the oil to the Full line, you need to close the filler cap and run the motor for two minutes to get the oil into the filter. Then you turn it off and put roughly another quart give or take to top it off to the Full line again (after it runs a couple of minutes, the oil level drops a bit). Been doing it that way a couple of decades. Learned it from a 72 year old shop teacher who was a mechanic most of his life. PS: All common cylindrical type oil filters - hand tight plus a quarter turn with the wrench. Haven't dripped a drop yet. 🙂

A little trick we use on our big trucks to keep it neat is to take an ice pick or old Phillips head screwdriver and hammer and poke a hole in the bottom of the oil filter.

Nice job man. I've been domestic suv driver my whole life and I just got a used Nissan pathfinder and looked under there hood and was like huh???? Lol everything looks so different on foreign. But this video helped. Peace & Blessing.

I've had foreign cars/suvs, forever. Just got a used pathfinder few months back and I had the same thought looking under the hood. Hate the location and that stupid curve in the oil dipstick. Finally found (after looking at video) where the tranny dipstick was. Trying to figure out why it's screwed down......never seen that in a vehicle, though 2011 is the "newest" car I've had in awhile. Oil change does seem like it'll be easier to do though on this vehicle, aside from taking off that skid plate.

Wouldn't it have made sense to first drain the oil pan?
@Arturo-im1nh Жыл бұрын
How do? Doesn’t really matter which you drain first since the filter won’t get filled with oil until the car is started.

Thanks for the video. Would it have not been easier just to remove the entire skid plate?

For everyone creating a oil mess with filter removal, try oil udder available on Amazon and eBay.

I’ve got a 2012. That filter is a major pain . I always make a mess, and have to wipe everything as well!
@mericamark3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the only better way I can think of is removing the entire skid plate or relocating the oil filter if you plan on keeping the vehicle for many oil changes to come. I'm a huge fan of the cartridge type filters that sit in the top of the engine bay.

What I usually do is put a cardboard under the “gutter” below the filter. The cardboard is long enough to stream the oil down to my catch.

Hello. when i change gear from R to D, sometimes it jerks when driving fast. changing from R to D takes about 1.5 seconds. Is it normal? if i wait 1-2 seconds it is perfect. do these cars have it? that you have to wait a while from back R to D? Thanks

I would put chocks behind my rear wheels. Safety first.

Access hole to filter too small. Always a mess everytime. I replace filter every 2 oil change. I use 20k oil filter. 07 is now 275k odo. Great v6 engine.

Bro cool info but you should actually fill the filter to 70% and then stick it in there this will help to see the real level on the dipstick otherwise the reading you get just after you filled it will not be accurate as the oil filter have to fill before you can measure the level.

Good luck keeping that oil in the filter while trying to reinstall it hahaha. But if I didn't mention in the video, that's why u always start the car and run it for about 30 seconds to a minute after filling with oil to see if it needs anymore once the filter gets filled up

Yo, man. That was such a good video. It's not a super complicated job, obviously... but for an old dog with not a ton of automotive care experience, your video was perfect. Much appreciated!!!
