Are you able to control the temperature? If so how? If not did the temperature stay about 89 degrees as shown?

omg you are too funny, you don't have to buy brand new !! especially if you are gutting it to make it an incubator. the fridge I got DOES go for hundreds new but did I say it was new? NO... so you get lost... how rude :/

Thanks for a great video - did you say approximately what all your items to do this cost? If you did I missed it. Also I have to tell you I bought two Exo terra incubators www.onlinereptileshop.co.uk/images_CMS/products/3663/1392749763_high_res.jpg which are very pretty but they suck. Flimsy trays are easily dislodged, water tray is hard to not overflow and their sensors fail. I bought two to have a back up. The first one after the warantee period the sensor went bizerk and overheated multiple clucthes of my rare turtle eggs half way through the incubation period in seconds going beyond the maximum 140 degree setting when I wasn't there to look at it and see it was overheating. The back up one which I had not used before the warantee was up didn't heat at all it only cooled. I wouldn't trust that product if it was free. Reading reviews this seems not to be an isolated occurrence with me. Once out of warantee the company won't even provide you information to do your own repair and replace sensors! Anyway considering my experience you might want to incorporate a temperature alarm in your DIY. You can find inexpensive ones at thermoworks.com/. Look for sale prices like this one RT8100 FRIDGE/FREEZER ALARM THERMOMETER with Programmable alarm temperatures, Alarm duration counter, LED and audible alarms, Magnetic attachment, Max and Min function only 19.00 . nothing is more disheartening than checking on your clutches to find they have been cooked.

Ya I have heard of that happening, but it stays pretty warm inside the room so I don't think that will happen. And I was thinking about humidity getting in the insulator clip so I put electrical tape all around it then the foil tape. Thanks for the tip!
@dchubad10 жыл бұрын
nice video but i didnt catch the power consumption such as voltage, wattage. also a nice little computer fan (12v) would help circulate the warm air evenly to help prevent all the hot air from staying at the top and he best place to place it is at the top blowing downwards. thanks for sharing

A tip...if you have it in a room where there is air conditioning, I would suggest vecroing some of that silver reflective insulation on the glass. The glass will cool down and lower the temp inside. I learned that with my wine fridge incubator.
@Elitesnakeprojects12 жыл бұрын
Ya it was a lot of fun. the Fridge cost me 25 on craigslist, heat tape and insulator set was about 30 and everything else I already had. so all together less than 100 bucks. I would say it's a lot better than buying one, funner too.

Hi, My name is Roger and I'm working on a project. I'm trying to convert my wine cooler into a "incubator", but I need to reach a temperature of 140F, Do you think that will be possible if I use same heat tape you have used ? Thanks
@TheDuckseason11 жыл бұрын
found a skinny wine fridge 11 inches across by 2ft inside . It is plastic so I may end up gutting it down to the metal inside and seal it ... The insulation would probably be gone so i don't know it it will be supper efficient on the heat but i am going to improvise a heat recycle thing. This I feel will be much safer I feel than the Styrofoam incubator mods. really worried about fire had one 2 yrs ago don't want to go thru it again and i want to add L.E.D's inside.

Is a rheostat or dimmer recommended to put between the heat source and the thermostat? I read that if a thermostat goes out it runs at full power (dangerous) where as if the dimmer goes off it shuts power. Also how do you decide what voltage in a thermostat to buy based off of the width of your heat tape and the length you chose? Is one 30" strip of 12" wide heating tape sufficient to warm up a Whirlpool Wine Cooler for incubating chicken eggs at 98*F?
@Elitesnakeprojects12 жыл бұрын
Just make sure the incubation medium (Vermiculite, hatchrite) have high anough humidity to last through out the incubation process.
