At first I was like "what, I'm not gonna watch a 50 min video of drawings..." But then I got hooked up heh! It looks so cool! I am not much of an artist but I definitely need to give your technique a shot. Thanks for taking the time to explain it all. I kinda knew most of the little Google Drawing tricks but there's always more to learn. I didn't know holding shift helps with giving precision in your movement.

Very nice tutorial, thank you! I used the same technique in Fireworks. Google Drawings seems very similar: You don't need to see the layers, but you can move the elements up and down easily.

I'm trying to follow along with this and do my own self portrait but I keep experiencing this phenomenon where I'm clicking the polyline and it just stops and creats an open shape and won't let me add to the polyline to finish it up. Please help!!

@templetomb I still haven't figured it out. I haven't used it much since making a portrait two years ago but I'm back at it trying to figure it out. The polyline tool just stops and there's no discernable way to add to a stopped poly-line. That's no good.

Try zooming in and making sure your clicks aren't too close together. It is an issue I've reported to Google. I hope they fix it soon.

When you click too close, it doesn't start a new segment, and instead counts it as a double click, which ends the polyline. The trick is to zoom like in the video, so then you can make those shorter segments without issue. When you zoom in, the image is enlarge d in your view, which makes those once-impossible-clicks possible.

Select all your shapes and then hold down shift to deselect the picture before you group.

I just spent the last 2 hours working on my own portait, of Actor David Janssen, but it looks like crap! I am so used to drawing lines, but they just don't work with your style you present here. It takes a little getting used to, just drawing shapes, la de la. Hard for me to loosen up I guess, must be a control freak. I mean my finished product is recognizable as David, but still too sharp-edged. Back to the drawing board. Thanks for sharing your skill with us!

How do you deal with the fact that everytime the program autosaves it breaks the line. It doesn't seem to be a problem for you but it happens to me constantly. Are you working off-line when you use this program?

I'm working online. I haven't experienced the line breaking during autosave yet. I know that it is sensitive to double clicking. I'll check into this.

Hello? Just right click and then just click on the "move layer" button (the text may have changed but it looks similar) and then it will let you move up, down, send to back, brint to front.
