I’ve always liked your channel busy this video changes a lot for me. Sounds simple and weird but the lighting set up suits damn there everything. It’s really nice. I’ve got shoots tomorrow and I’m trying these. Thanks 🙏

This is gold James. My biggest surprise and take away is that the key light had enough coverage to cover 5 in a group as effectively as it covered one person. Thanks for then great content.

James, let me say how much I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos. I recently came upon your channel and I have been enjoying them a lot. I used to set up monolights and take our kids' pictures when they were little tikes. Now that they are in highschool sports, I'm so appalled by how badly the school coordinated team photos look, that I have been thinking about offering to shoot something better for the kids on the team. As I'm sure you know, every kid should be blown away by how cool they look in their sports pictures, instead of being annoyed at seeing it hanging on grandma's refrigerator. Anyway, you've been giving me some great ideas, and a lot to think about.

I really appreciate you taking the time to break down your thought process through these setups. It’s really valuable learning it as the concepts and not just the light setup you have up. I really need to try out just using simple umbrellas. I’m always setting up softboxes all over. Pretty sure my first modifier was an Apollo Orb kit.

Great content flowing out of you and this channel! Excellent and appreciated! To add to the conversation, in the video, you question whether you need the strip box since the kicker is giving you the edge lighting on the face. Alternatively, It looks like you can lose the kicker as the strip is giving you the kick on the face as well as the edge down the body. It’s hard to tell how much on the face but it seems like it is more than the kicker. Thanks for the lesson and great content!

Thanks James, well done. I've seen people have a kicker light that puts a highlight on the side of the nose, those drive me crazy.

Very very helpful as always. I'm just starting to venture into the world of off camera flash, and only have the one strobe light right now, which obviously feels somewhat undergunned when I look at the array of lights you use for these portraits. Any chance of a video sometime showing how much can be achieved with one light? Thanks again!

Thank you James! I am wondering if you would share how you approach and execute the shoot consultation or planning with your clients. I am currently working on a game plan for my pre shoot collaboration with clients, but I am a little ‘shaky’ as I think about questioning (even educating) clients to understand their needs and wants.

Fantastic as always! Could you use FJ400s instead of the Einsteins just as another group on the trigger, or do the Einsteins have an advantage for lighting the background?
@QuantzPhoto4 ай бұрын
Hey Adam, you can only use the same brand strobes with their remotes but you can set the others to use their optical sensors and they'll fire.

I love your videos and get a lot out of them. You mentioned using some Einsteins. I've got a couple, but i keep them packed up as I've got a nice westcott system. How do you fire them? Simply with them set to optical slave? Or some other way? Thanks.
@QuantzPhoto4 ай бұрын
Yep use the optical sensor!

Do you often (always?) use the FJ400 reflectors with the umbrellas in these setups? Love this deep dive BTS. Thank you!

I’ve started to recently. Maybe I should do a comparison between on and off to see if there’s a big difference…

James I often wonder about power from key light to your fill umbrellas, is it always a given ratio or do you just use what works for that particular set ? Thank you

I have two college basketball teams this Friday for media day, and this video was perfect timing as my Cambo Redwing 1201 arrived last week. Quick question, I’ve noticed that the rotating head extension seems to not be able to handle the weight of any light modifier larger than 36”. Have you had this similar experience with the head extension where it will rotate down due to a heavier modifier? I have a Raja 60” soft box and it will not stay upright due to its weight. When I use my FJ400 and Octa M or S I have no problem, but anything larger and the extension arm will not stay put and rotate from 180 degrees to 0.

There’s a bolt on mine that I can tighten if I need to. That being said I rarely use that large of a modifier on it.
@DynastyPlaybooks Жыл бұрын
@@QuantzPhoto yea, when I watched the video a second time I noticed the knob on the back of yours. I have a bolt on the back of mine but I don’t have that knob to turn it. I’ll see tonight if I can use a wrench 🔧 to tighten mine. Thanks for the reply!
