I just moved to Guanajuato 3 days ago!!! I will always be staying in an AirBnB. Water, Garbage, Elec, WiFi, ins. Is all part of my $850 per month to live downtown Guanajuato!!! I don’t need to buy furniture, dishes etc. Additionally as I evolve into this new life style, I can leave to Ireland 4 months out of the year when Guanajuato get’s to hot for me to enjoy. Regarding Learning Spanish. I have 1 hour a day private lessons for $100 per week. I love it. (Note, I spent 6 weeks here earlier this year “Boots on the Ground” experience to see if indeed this was the city I wanted… I LOVE THIS PLACE) Monday I start working for a Non Profit as a volunteer so I “Have a purpose in life” AND to organically further my Spanish. I am hoping to expedite my integration into Mexico. Such a wonderful, beautiful place…

I'm moving to Ajijic on April 14th and boy do I have a lot to do! I had foot surgery 4 days ago so I've had lots of time to think about everything, just not able to do much yet, but I have one way airfare purchased and I know where I'm going to live so that's a relief. I went on a scouting trip to check out a place I was interested in and it blew me away and exceeded all of my expectations. I think I may donate my furniture and just start over in Mexico. I plan on checking one suitcase and taking my carry on bag and my personal item and I will manage nicely. My new place is furnished so that's a relief. So thank you Alex for all of your great suggestions and wish me luck! I'll check back after my move.

I have 2 questions. 1. If youre too young to retire, jow can an American get a job there? 2. I believe that in Europe, you need a different voltage outlet to charge your electronics. Does mexico use the same 12 volt outlet lile on the USA or do i need something different?
@alex-wittman2 күн бұрын
Many Americans living in Mexico opt for remote work as it generally pays better than in-person positions in Mexico. I recommend checking out the blog Making Sense of Cents if you're just starting to dip your toes into the world of remote work. To answer your second question, you won't need a special outlet in Mexico.

If this question is in regards to applying for a temporary or permanent visa, you will need to make an appointment ahead of time. Consulates don't accept walk-in visa applications. To find out how to make an appointment, go to the website of the consulate where you plan to apply and check out the visa requirements--some will ask you to make an appointment via a website, others via email.

Is it true that the immigration officer can give you less than 180 days at the border if they deem it fit? I'm about to travel in December and need the full 180 days in order to be closer to my husband. Do you think travel insurance and flight reservations would be enough? Accommodation would be on a 28-day basis in case I move around or would volunteering with maybe Worldpackers be helpful?

My mom is also a former Delta flight attendant! She was based in Detroit at the end of her 40-year career (retired during the pandemic). My best advice is to get plugged into the community as soon as possible. I'd search for expat Facebook groups & in Ajijic specifically, get in touch with the Lake Chapala Society. These groups are great resources for real-time info about a specific place and recommendations. Plus, it's a chance to start forming your social life before you're even on the ground.

It depends on your plan for once you get to Mexico & if you’ll start working once you’re settled in.
