I just moved to Guanajuato 3 days ago!!! I will always be staying in an AirBnB. Water, Garbage, Elec, WiFi, ins. Is all part of my $850 per month to live downtown Guanajuato!!! I don’t need to buy furniture, dishes etc. Additionally as I evolve into this new life style, I can leave to Ireland 4 months out of the year when Guanajuato get’s to hot for me to enjoy. Regarding Learning Spanish. I have 1 hour a day private lessons for $100 per week. I love it. (Note, I spent 6 weeks here earlier this year “Boots on the Ground” experience to see if indeed this was the city I wanted… I LOVE THIS PLACE) Monday I start working for a Non Profit as a volunteer so I “Have a purpose in life” AND to organically further my Spanish. I am hoping to expedite my integration into Mexico. Such a wonderful, beautiful place…

We got our Temporary Residence on our third day here and they took care of everything, and I mean, everything. They also helped us with obtaining our RFC and even called a pharmacy and had prescriptions delivered to our door after we fell I’ll in the first week. They also added us to a what’s App Expats group here in Querétaro and we are already creating friends. We are living in centro in Querétaro and appreciate all of the info you provided. I'm moving to Ajijic on April 14th and boy do I have a lot to do! I had foot surgery 4 days ago so I've had lots of time to think about everything, just not able to do much yet, but I have one way airfare purchased and I know where I'm going to live so that's a relief. I went on a scouting trip to check out a place I was interested in and it blew me away and exceeded all of my expectations. I think I may donate my furniture and just start over in Mexico. I plan on checking one suitcase and taking my carry on bag and my personal item and I will manage nicely. My new place is furnished so that's a relief. So thank you Alex for all of your great suggestions and wish me luck! I'll check back after my move.

I have 2 questions. 1. If youre too young to retire, jow can an American get a job there? 2. I believe that in Europe, you need a different voltage outlet to charge your electronics. Does mexico use the same 12 volt outlet lile on the USA or do i need something different?
@alex-wittman

Many Americans living in Mexico opt for remote work as it generally pays better than in-person positions in Mexico. I recommend checking out the blog Making Sense of Cents if you're just starting to dip your toes into the world of remote work. To answer your second question, you won't need a special outlet in Mexico.

If this question is in regards to applying for a temporary or permanent visa, you will need to make an appointment ahead of time. Consulates don't accept walk-in visa applications. To find out how to make an appointment, go to the website of the consulate where you plan to apply and check out the visa requirements--some will ask you to make an appointment via a website, others via email.

Is it true that the immigration officer can give you less than 180 days at the border if they deem it fit? I'm about to travel in December and need the full 180 days in order to be closer to my husband. Do you think travel insurance and flight reservations would be enough? Accommodation would be on a 28-day basis in case I move around or would volunteering with maybe Worldpackers be helpful?

What I'm looking to do is move specifically to tijuana mexico in about 18 months once my social security is established in June 2025. Now will I still need to apply for permanent residence in the U.S. Or could i just keep renewing my temporary required forms. I'm a U.S. Army Veteran with full medical and plan to get registered in San Diego. Plus I will work part time most likely in San Diego. As far as roof over my head, that's all I need, probably will just go for a furnished studio apt to start with. Great video thank you.

My mom is also a former Delta flight attendant! She was based in Detroit at the end of her 40-year career (retired during the pandemic). My best advice is to get plugged into the community as soon as possible. I'd search for expat Facebook groups & in Ajijic specifically, get in touch with the Lake Chapala Society. These groups are great resources for real-time info about a specific place and recommendations. Plus, it's a chance to start forming your social life before you're even on the ground.

We're just starting to have the conversation as to if this is something we really want to consider. However, with the recent past and current direction things are going here in the US, these talks are becoming more serious. My aunt relocated to San Carlos Nuevo Guyamas. All I hear is good things from her on a regular basis. She and I are rather like minded in general so I greatly value her opinion. My wife and I plan to take a couple of weeks to go visit her next year and travel around. I'm watching a lot of your videos and find you content incredibly valuable! n México you never own a property is own by the state who only gives the posetion of the land but not the ownership hehehe at any moment the goverment could confiscate property. You need pay taxes for that proporty. Now new laws are going to passed to stop migration to México and visas are going to be imposed to US citenzens to stop gentrification that is ruining life in México and it is already very difficult to compete for resources.

It depends on your plan for once you get to Mexico & if you’ll start working once you’re settled in. Please do a video on neighborhoods for retirees. I can’t do stairs or walk up a Lot of hills. It needs to be walkable to nearby amenities. Also are there any “good” neighborhoods that offer ground / single floor apartments?

If you're interested in moving to Querétaro, a relocation expert recently told me that the most highly requested area by retirees in the city is the centro historico. Related, have you seen my video about Jardines/Los Arcos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6XJl6ioqJKAfNE

The Centro is nice but too noisy and busy for me. LOL! I’m looking for something farther out.

Is it possible to find a job in Mexico, specifically Mexico City that will pay a salary comparable to the U.S? I have dual citizenship with Mexico so I have no problem working for any Mexican company in Mexico.

Great list Alex, I’m probably a good year away and I’m thinking that it’s best to come spend time first and decide if it’s right for us which I think you mentioned before. But excited to make them off at some point. Thanks again for all your help

My application and financial statements have just been sent to the consulate in Toronto. Just waiting to hear back from them to see when I can perhaps get an appointment to obtain permanent residency. 😓

Hi, Your videos have been an excellent guide for my next step. Queretaro would be a great starting point for me. I I’m I’ve been an EMT for over 17 years; I can’t help but to be curious about ambulance/EMS services in your area. How do you feel about the EMS services in your area?
