I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

A few years ago, I visited a church in Mexico. The preacher was talking about debt, he was telling the congregation to stay out of debt and that, in the, U S people live under the illusion that they own things when in reality it is the banks and credit card companies that own them.

Sadly, in Mexico, most people earn so little money that they live paycheque to paycheque and do not save anything. Debt levels are much lower than in the USA or Canada because most Mexicans earn too little to qualify for credit cards and earn too little to get bank loans. The ones who borrow from 'other sources' often end up lifeless on the side of a road.

I retired from the U.S. Army and moved to Brasil. I brought my mother, who has dementia, with me. I hired two nurses to care for my mother around the clock. Something that would be impossible in the U.S. Moving to Brasil was the best decision for me and my mother. I cannot comprehend ever moving back to the U.S. I make my money in the U.S. and live in Brasil. Best of both worlds.

We moved to Mexico specifically for my mother with Alzheimers. The nursing home was run by a Canadian man whose wife had dementia and passed away, he turned his large hacienda into a nursing home specializing in Alzheimer’s care. The nursing staff was amazing, the care was 2 caregivers to one patient as opposed to usually one nurse to six or more patients . My grandmother went thru three Alzheimer’s units in the USA and all of them were horrible, we live in a higher income community so there was no excuse for poor care. In fact one very high cost unit just sprayed patients down with Lysol if they soiled themselves. Our doctor who was well traveled wholeheartedly supported our decision to move my mother to Mexico for care. She was happy until the day she passed from a stroke. She never knew where she was from day to day only cared that she had home cooked food and a very clean environment with wonderful caring trained caregivers and always one nurse on duty at all times. The hospital was literally right next door in case of emergencies. It was affordable and the best part was she had excellent care. How was I so sure. Because of a medication issue I needed to spend a week somewhere quite and with care until my medication took affect. I went to my mother’s nursing home. The care was excellent and the patients formed bonds that were like an extended family. They looked out for one another as best as they could considering their various illnesses. They had games that encouraged exercise at a minimal level, music, a beautiful atrium filled with gorgeous tropical plants, a swimming pool with special equipment for those who could use it, three home cooked meals per day and a nurse who administered medication as needed. Cameras were located in the rooms yet made sure that no one’s privacy was ever violated. My only complaint was that there was a bar across the street that played loud music but guess what when I asked the other patients if the music bothered them, they asked what music. You see Alzheimer’s patients would not remember anything that happened during the night and often nothing that happened an hour before. It did upset me since I did not have a memory issue watching the decline of such wonderful people, it broke my heart but the times they did remember they were happy and well fed and clean. The rooms were perfect for the needs of the patients. Its a shame they did not consider placing their parent into one of these several homes because their lives and hers would have been beautiful. I don’t know if their plans can change but if it was me I would look into nursing care in Ajijic Mexico. God forbid we should need nursing care but if we did we wouldn’t hesitate to go in a skinny minute. I’m lucky I got to see if we made a good decision for my mother, my heart is now at peace that I did the very best for her.

in 2007 I left the new life I'd established for myself decades before, living in a dilapidated house in the "almost outback" of Australia. Returning my to hometown of Christchurch in New Zealand. Now sharing a small rental central city flat (unit) I'm caring in-home for my Mum, 98 and very frail. But every day we have together is a blessing. I'm just trying to have the best life I can at the moment while I'm living in a city*, while helping mum have the best life she can have also. (*Did some classes at University and Polytechnic, helping on some committees of things etc) Every evening we sit together watching the big TV in the loungeroom with subtitles on (her hearing's down a bit). Fortunately I live in a nation with Free Universal Healthcare and a welfare system that pays me a small allowance to stay home and care for mum. Who knows what the future holds. Whether I may in future return to the semi-arid almost outback of Australia, or some cold rainy part of Southern N.Z. ? Relish and enjoy the time you have with your elderly relatives, whanau and friends.

Just tell them you're in "New Mexico". LOL My Mom and Dad mostly had physical decline, although my Mother showed signs of mental decline near the end. We had a full time in-house caregiver for both of them, in California and it was extremely expensive. I think this is one reason why more Americans are retiring abroad. In the United States to be in the top 1% of income earners, you need a yearly income of $550k - $600k per year. The world as a whole, that number is only $32,000 a year, which means in some nice places, you can live like a wealthy person on very little income.

"She wasn't having any of that". When an adult gets dementia they inherit the accountability and decision making ability of a child. I am an RN. I see families torn apart by unrealistic efforts on behalf of demented parents. The ones that do best have a family leader willing to make hard decisions. I am afraid I would have taken my parent "for a vacation" and then kept her at the new location. The last thing I would do is come out of retirement and incur debt to please someone who is increasingly child-like. Sorry but I think most people would regret your decision.

My dream of living in Mexico was inspired by a book called "Women Reinventing Their Lives in Mexico', by Karen Blue. That dream was shattered by a diagnosis of small cell lung cancer. @@damienholland8103 I live part time in Colombia and have medical insurance over there. the facilities are great and the attention is wonderful. I had similar experiences in Panama albeit those were private facilities and services. I feel like a lot of it comes down to pay in public services in western countries and the people that work within those institutions in those countries. in Colombia the people that work at the hospitals are just happy to have jobs, so they take pride in their respective fields, as opportunities are far and few and no one wants to lose their job. it feels like a lot of the people that work in public medical facilities in places like Canada, the UK and other places in Europe hate their jobs and that's reflected in the service and environment. just my take.

I have a Co-worker who retired from an Auto and Home Insurance Company. He sold his home here in Whittier, Ca. and moved to GDL- Guadalajara, Mexico and Loves it. I went to visit him and stayed one week there in March of 2024. I loved it, the people there are very welcoming. I have seen the homes for sale there and the High-Rise condos and they are beautiful. Especially the Condos with their views of the city at night and the homes with magnificent pools. I go to the Capital Brokers Luxury Real Estate and the homes are beautiful and the weather is like California. The Greenery there makes the city so beautiful. I hope one day that will be my residence.

My parents set a great example by taking care of both of my Grandmothers (at different times), but they both agreed to live with my parents and us kids. We committed to take care of my wife’s parents and aunt but we told them they would need to live where we lived when the time comes. They moved to Florida from California to live nearby. They are currently independent but we will be here when they need help. It’s quite another matter asking someone to move to a developing country.

I think you are wrong about that if they really love you. When my father got dementia everyone told me to put him in an old folks home. Even social workers banging on my door telling me to put him in an old folks home. When my father was sick and in the hospital as he was rehabing they sent him to a rehab home that's also an old folks home. The care was terrible I told the staff that I was taking him outside to get fresh air and never brought him back. I quit my job to take care of him full time and lived on savings, credit cards and small jobs here and there. I'm broke and in debt but I'm so glad I was there for him until his last day.

I would avoid index funds, mutual funds, and specific stocks for the time being. Right now, the best option is a fixed income of five percent. Put money aside for the times when the market really starts to bounce back.

I hope I never have to make a decision like you've had to make. Like you I moved to Mexico in 2015 and I consider it one of the best decisions I've ever made. I don't have enough income to live comfortably in the U.S. but it's enough that here in Mexico I've actually saved a nice little nest egg, own a beautiful house, and live debt free. Mexico is my home now and at 77 years old if I had to move back to the U.S. I'm sure I would spiral into a bottomless depression.

DJ, Hey we have the same initials! :) I live half time in Mexico but as I get a little older I find myself not wanting to leave to come back to the states... We mostly snowbird there and have a small property. I do find I always save money while in Mexico but it quickly dissolves away when I am back in the USA for 6 months at a time. I am a little jealous that you are full time. I am also thinking ahead to a time when I might need in home care, and I find the Mexican people are so much better at it... so yeah... there is that bit. Nursing home care in my state is outrageously expensive.

I plan to retire at 62 in another country outside the US that is free, safe and very cheap with a high quality of life. I could fully just rely on only my SS if I wanted to when that times arrives but I'll also have at least one pension, a 403 (b) and a very prolific lnvestment account with my Abby Joseph Cohen my FA. Retiring comfortably in the US these days is almost impossible.

On the other hand, it's clear to me why this guy has been successful in many aspects if his life, including where it matters most. His family. He made the sacrifice to relocate in the first place so that his wife would have healthcare and they could enjoy their lives together. He then made another sacrifice in returning to the US. Again, this was to support his family and maybe this is what his wife really wanted. Not only that, he discovered a new talent that enables him to quit his day job and work remote anywhere with connectivity. He will have success wherever (family) life leads him. Every family would be fortunate to have a leader like this guy. Much respect.

I left Mexico after 6 months of living in La Paz Baja Sur Mexico. I left because face it, it’s great until things go wrong. No ability to get justice if you are robbed, your car is stolen, you are injured. No jury trials in Mexico. It’s a lot more expensive than you expect. It was a truly beautiful place to live. Beautiful beaches, amazing food, great people.

Glad to hear things are working out for you two. I went through a similar situation, except mine is going downhill very fast. A few years ago I left my job (architect) in Toronto, Ontario. Had a very serious case of burnouts, and stress. My health was declining. Got married, took my wife places, including Croatia where I was born to show her were I came from as a kid. She loved the place then, and convinced me to move there. Sold our house, got rid of a lot of stuff, packed a container with stuff we wanted to keep, including a car, and off we went to Croatia. The idea was to buy a piece of land there, build a house, and live happily ever after. We bought a gorgeous lot, hired a local architect, got our doctors first week that we were there. Croatia being part of the EU, has excellent health care right across the continent, and it was cheap-cheap. Six months into our stay there, wife begins to hate the place. Cries in the car as we are driving around - me showing her the country which is gorgeous. Decide to drop everything, and move back to Canada, Montreal this time where wife is from. We are into our sixth year living here. She speaks a little bit of French, I don't speak any. She got her family doctor right away, same docotr that she had when she lived here. I waited two and a half years for one. We live in an apartment now. Wife now has serious health issues - mental health issues which are very dificult to deal with for both of us. Cost of living up here is staggaring - specially when you consider the value of the Canadian dollar. Used to be that our dollar was on par, and sometimes even better than the US dollar. Now, it's about $0.72 American. Everything we buy comes from either China or USA, so we have to pay in US dollar values. Essentially, we are running out of money, and my marriage is on the skids due to her mental health. Don't know what to do...life sucks sometimes.

Your wife needs you the most right now. Do not give up on you guys. You must make the decisions that are best for you both. If Croatia is more affordable to live and where she can receive the quality treatment she needs, then you should think of moving back for both of you guys is benefit. Probably that's the reason why she cried because she had mental issues. Always think for the better of you two. Stay strong, and do not let the problems blind you from doing the right thing for both of you.

My late husband was 15 yrs. older than I and he worked an extra seven years just to make sure that I had health insurance in the U.S. It’s shocking to read how EXPENSIVE rent is both here and in Canada when back in 1966 I paid $45 for a 3-room apartment. My career was in banking and I paid $4 a month for health insurance deducted from my paycheck and my employer paid the rest of the costs. Now a good portion of my social security goes to pay for Medicare and half my late husband’s pension annuity (earned during those 7 yrs.) pays for my health insurance. I fractured my hip and had a replacement 8 months ago and all that insurance coverage I pay (and he provided) covered 100% of my medical costs. I hope your wife finds the right doctor to prescribe medication to treat her depression. It took six years and a loving husband before I was diagnosed correctly in 2006. She is very lucky to have you but make sure you are taking care of your needs first so that you don’t get burned out from the stress.

I let my daughter know a long time ago I'm not having any of it. Many may disagree but this is my decision. I don't want to be in a home that would cripple my daughter and son in law financially. Nor do I want to be unable to recognize my loved ones nor be able to care for myself. Both of my grandmother's had dementia in their 80's. My fater had Lewy Body dementia. I'm 65 and I've been slow traveling and living abroad the past five years. From the US to Europe to Mexico and back to Europe. I've already checked out resources here in Europe and the states for facilities that offer end of life assistance. If the time comes I'll drink the cocktail and go peacefully.

I have been watching your channel for over 2 years. I moved to Mexico in May 2021. You have been a wealth of information on many aspects that apply to living in Mexico. The biggest thing that helped me tremendously was information you gave on the Mexican Consulate in the U.S. that had the lowest income requirement for residency in Mexico. My income was just a little above the minimum income requirement so I was able to qualify for Temporary Residency. I received the ok from the Consulate in the U.S. in November 2021 and January 2022, the income requirement at that Consulate increased by $600.00 USD more per month. It went from $1,745.00 USD per month to $2,300.00 USD per month. I was so grateful that I was following your channel or I would have never been able to meet the monthly income requirement at any consulate in the U.S. Thank you for the efficient, valuable and accurate information that you always provide. I am sure you will be able to make a comfortable income with creating content on KZbin full time.

I sure wish we got something for all that hard work ☹ My husband works 6 days a week as a butcher - it's his 32nd year with the company. I'm on disability and make approx $2,000 a month. Between the two of us we can barely live. We don't own a house because we can't save up 20% for a down payment, especially since the prices keep increasing. The average price of a house in California is $904,210 which is up 11% since April of last year. That would mean we have to save $180,842 and also have money for closing costs and real estate agent fees. That could never happen and is quite disheartening 😔

Move out of Calif! There's wonderful places in the US that offer quality of life and are greatly more affordable. One need not believe that moving abroad is the only way to have a good retirement. And then people are so afraid to leave California and discover the other coasts of the US! As you get older you're going to want to find good, safe, affordable places in your home country and yes these places still exist but get on it don't dilly dally!

@@IceLynne the answer to your dilemma seems obvious to me but maybe there are other moving parts. You do know don't you that California is the single most expensive real estate market in the country? You are on disability so moving isn't going to change that status and your husband as an experienced butcher can work in all 50 states am sure and get a job within a week. I live in Laguna Beach and my house is worth well beyond the average price point for California homes. Since I can afford it I don't complain and I stay for now, but I can't imagine staying if I couldn't. Figure $5 million net worth to be in the desirable areas. Who wants to live in Fresno? Anyway, I own properties around the United States and I just bought a beautiful home in Indiana 3000 ft.² six years old, for $192,000. You might be able to swing that and the quality of life there supersedes that in California by a country mile if you are middle-class or lower middle-class let's just say. The middle of the country is chock full of examples just like this.

My father Immigrated to the US when he was a young man (legally), worked Santa Fe Railroad for many years, going through many states, then he got sick with asthma back then he decided to moved back to Mexico my mother used to tell me, Son there was no medicine for Asthma many nights we thought he was not going to see the morning light, long story short, he decided to moved to Mexico and said, I will never put a foot back in America, some of us after growing up decided to come back to the US, I'm on my 60's now and understand why he took that decision, I worked hard 2 jobs most of my life made very descent money, retired now just to find out that I didn't make enough to live a descent life. We're struggling on a daily basis, Iam back working for minimum wage. Just the Grace of God keeping us going.

I asked our contractor buddy in Mexico, if he'd ever been to the U.S., he said that, he went to visit a cousin in Oregon, but hardly saw the family, who lived in an overcrowded apartment, because they were busy working all the time, he said the scenery was beautiful, but he would never want to live there. people keep complaining about immigrants overburdening our social services, but our crappy health care system is usually inferior to where they came from, if they are coming from Mexico, they are most likely fleeing cartel violence, or have un sueno falsa.

Props to you guys for not sticking your mother in law in an old folks home. Putting your parents in an old folks home and then forgetting about them is the most American thing to do. When my father got dementia everyone told me to put him in an old folks home. Even social workers banging on my door telling me to put him in an old folks home. When my father was sick and in the hospital as he was rehabing they sent him to a rehab home that's also an old folks home. The care was terrible I told the staff that I was taking him outside to get fresh air and never brought him back. I quit my job to take care of him and lived on savings, credit cards and small jobs here and there. I'm broke and in debt but I'm so glad I was there for him until his last day.

You might be lucky the nursing home didn't get you charged with kidnapping. The head nurse in my mother's nursing home told me if I took her home without their permission, they would charge me with kidnapping. But she was pretty weird. Maybe she was just spouting off.

@@kerrynight3271 They didn't have legal custody of my dad. I never signed any document to put him in that place. The hospital sent him there without my consent. My dad had severe dementia and didn't know where they were taking him or what was going on and couldn't' make that decision. I should have charged the place with kidnapping my dad to begin with. The nursing home didn't really care they just wanted me to sign some documents freeing them of any liability. I told them it's too late now. You just reminded me to give them a bad review on Yelp although they already have a bunch of bad reviews. The nursing home doesn't own your mother. You might have to do some paperwork and free them of any liability but I'm sure you can take her home whenever you want.

I left Europe for Mexico in 2020, after the first lockdown, around Christmas. Originally, I wanted to stay in the UK, but all my jobs were gone. I got a temporary residence permit right away. And I bought a house. A friend of mine urgently advised me to stay out of Europe. She lives now with her family in South East Asia. I am glad that I followed her advice. So hard when a family member needs you to return to assist. I left Rome twelve years ago to return back to the U.S. when my mother started having dementia symptoms. Now that my father has passed and she is living with a sibling, I am wanting to leave again. I got my permanent residency two years ago, and you and Linda were part of my roster of influencers who guided my decisions along the way. Still need to make the move and convince the spouse too. I have nothing but the utmost respect for you and your wife for making this decision. My grandmother suffered from dementia. She would not allow any of her 5 grandchildren to take turns staying with her and refused to live with any of us. We finally had to make the difficult decision to place her in a senior living center after we found her several times in the yard where she had spent the night confused. For her safety there was no alternative. We made sure she had daily visits and made the best of a heartbreaking situation. I am confident we made the best decision, but it was very sad for several years. So glad you will be continuing with You Tube. I am wishing only the best for you and your family.

I have always kept the thought of moving to Mexico. The videos and comments help give insight to how that may work out. I have also learned something in life and that's when friends and family think you're crazy for doing something you're on to something big and spectacular. Always dream big.

Im a 51 year old widow. I have 2 kids under 18. I have PROMISED them They will NEVER have to "take care if me" I'll never allow it even if they offer, once I can't take care of myself if I make it that far I will pay for my care, it's called Planning People. But please realize it’s not always about the almighty dollar. Regardless of financial planning, some people need and want their family around for love, emotional and psychological support, esp if facing a health or mental challenge. Of course it’s wonderful to be able to afford physical care, but that’s not the only thing that matters - yes, to the aged, but also to the rest of the family. If you’re lucky. I can’t imagine not wanting to be around family whether you’re the one needing help or the one giving it.

@@leapintothewild I'm not rich 😆, lower middle class, I would NEVER force my kids to drop everything & move to be closer to me & provide companionship, how ridiculous. These situations need to be discussed & planned ahead so expectations are clear. I don't have a spouse/partner but those who do need to have those conversations with them too. I would love to be close to my kids, my sister, my nieces & nephews, cousins etc in old age but I wouldn't expect them to drop everything & move to make it happen, they all don't live in the same city, state, country 🤷🏻‍♀️ so have everyone move to my city?🤭 Selfish thinking

Agree with the majority of the comments here regarding planning for your own care in old age. Like the OP, I would never expect my daughter (she is my only child) to care for me. I will plan for my own care, as a responsible adult. There is such a thing called Long Term Care insurance. I urge everyone to get a plan as soon as you are eligible (for most plans that starts at age 50). I know many cultures (my own included - I’m Mexican) stress caring for one’s elders however in American society and the way things work here, that is not usually feasible without great sacrifice by the caregiver, given how expensive it is to live here. Elder care is incredibly expensive, on top of being very emotionally and physically taxing. Sure I want to maintain being able to see my daughter, but I want to visit with her, and for her to have the freedom to continue living her life on her terms.

Best of luck to my professor!. I am up there in age and have found that life is a series of phases that we go thru. It is never the same but is dynamic and you have to adjust and embrace change. You also need to be happy with the little things and not have expectations that are unrealistic. You will do fine I am sure, during this next phase of you life, that is your story.

I also returned to the USA after 6 years in Los Cabos for a different reason and will never regret having moved there. My friend established a life in Ireland and then her elderly mom needed care so she moved back to the US. Her mom was angry and bitter and my friend gave up everything, used up her savings buying a home in Ireland and now she’s helping a mother with whom argues with her everyday. My friend is depressed and regrets everything. She’s so down she has given up leaving the US again because it was such a challenge…

We left the US 12 years ago. I semi retired at 43 to the Philippines. Zero debt, savings, homes, cars.. ect. Took a few years to sort things out, but in the end we did something we could never have done if still in the US. Less stress, I still work about 10 hours a week on projects I want. We created business that are profitable. Life is Good. I can not imagine going back to the States for any reason. Good luck with your Family.

My mom is elderly and diagnosed with dementia. I made sure, before I left my home country, that my siblings would be looking after my mother. My dad was my responsibility but he passed from cancer, much earlier than my mom and what we expected. I just got my tax number today and won't be going back again. You are smart not to give up on the 100K subscribers you have built! Life has curve balls, for sure and it's great you decided to return to help mom. I'm sure you and Linda will continue to be a great team and figure something out. Maybe interviewing people who have taken on the Mexican dream? I watched a lot of that stuff before I moved here and now I help others from getting tangled up in the common traps, even in the serene part of Mexico I spend most of my time in! Best of luck!

@@Middleguy37 My mother was very aggressive with me and started hitting me when I was a teen. At 14, I told her she wasn't hitting me anymore. So, she threw me out shortly after. I moved in with my dad and his crazy girlfriend until I was 18 and able to support myself. I told my siblings I would look after my dad in old age but she is on the three of them, not me. Normally, I would have never spoken to her again but I loved my siblings so I stayed in touch. So, mind your business and hateful words. You never know the entire story and I personally don't know how anyone can terrorize a four year old and live with themselves but they do, don't they? That four year old isn't going to be wiping their dirty butt sixty years later, for them, though and that's OK. She knows what she did.

I moved to Mexico more than 12-years ago. I bought a home on a lake and planned to live here until I die. Then I met a Mexican friend (bilingual) who worked for me as my house manager with room and board and a great salary. Meanwhile he has finished the University and hopes to relocate to the US but wants me to come with him to help him get acclimated and to start a new life in the medical profession. I just cannot imagine returning. How could I live there with those prices again? My friends are counting down the years until they can retire here to Mexico and they own homes in Florida--as I did--and the insurance and utilities are out of sight (not to mention food prices). I just can't imagine having to rent my house out in Mexico and living in the US for a year or so. Plus health care and a culture that has moved away from me for more than a decade. I feel your pain. I don't know that I will be able to finally make the break with this lifestyle of travel and leisure for the rat rat race of US search for money just to live.

I don't earn money. I live on my retirement. I spend 100% of my after US income tax on the Mexican economy. I pay 100% of a Mexican's tuition and books and transportation as well as food at a Mexican University. My home and all my belongings and my life insurance monies are willed to local Mexicans--nothing returning to my family in the US when I die. Everything I purchase is purchased in Mexico. My house manager hires local Mexican tradesman, a gardener, a maid and others and pays them well with benefits from my retirement. I have paid other local Mexican's tuition costs for education. I have taught classes for free in my native language as well as my field of former employment. I am not trying to blow my horn but not every gringo, sir, is a taker. I know many who are in my circumstance who are using all of our retirement funds for Mexicans only and who are leaving all of their worldly goods to Mexicans who would otherwise not have a chance at starting a local business or getting an education beyond grade school or owning their own home. It just isn't true that all of us don't care. Many of us do care and do something about it. ​@@crymxcho

I did it almost 4 years ago and still am just South of Cancun. I went there after 13 years of taking care of my elderly parents my Dad with Alzheimer's my mom with physical issues. They both passed and I put on a backpack and went to Puerto Morelos Mexico.

Ironically, I stayed at a job too many years because of the fear of giving up the comfort and security, I put those qualities above all...........the job turned toxic, unfortuantely, I was in too much denial to see the reality and truth of the situation........

You’re in a situation many, many families find themselves in: one member of the family needs more care, and other members are hundreds if not thousands of miles away. It’s the exact reason when I visit my parents I look them both in the eyes and make sure they have long-term care insurance and the like (I’m in CDMX, have a sibling in Chicagoland with my parents living in Texas). I'm a RN also. I lived in Mexico for several years. I loved it. Times have changed. Living in Mexico now is very expensive. Laws in Mexico are very different than the laws in the United States. I'm glad I did it when I did it. I would not do it again. I'm also 35 years older now. Best of luck!!

Super-interesting! It takes courage to reinvent yourself over and over again. But I am certain that those years that you spent in Mexico free of money worries count as some of your best years. I in a certain way also reinvented myself. Years ago I had married a Greek husband and fell in love with the country and lifestyle of Greece. I actually fell in love with Greece and I think as a result married a Greek. I divorced and bought myself a small place on a Greek island ,which I visited ,now for 34 years ,every summer. I was able to do this because I was a college professor in California. Because I was raising two young boys alone I was unable to permanently move to Greece. At age 81 I moved from Los Angeles to the Central Coast of California, away from the city. Everyone thought that I was crazy! One of my sons lives there now, on a hill surrounded by oak trees and peace and quiet. Now at age 83 I am presently enjoying my Greek island ,with its sunshine and friendly, welcoming people! I don’t think that my friends think that I am crazy any longer!!!

Paul we have been living in Mexico for 6 years. Unfortunately my 69 year old wife suffered a stroke during open heart surgery last September. She has a very complex health profile and recovery has been slow. It is unclear how much function she will recover. I am so happy this happened in Mexico rather than the US. When you get health insurance out of the way, things are so much easier. Good luck in your journey.

We sold everything to move to La Paz BCS in September 2021. Canada is a beautiful place but, Residency in beautiful Mexico was the dream. We're here in beautiful Nova Scotia Canada after living 3 yrs in beautiful Mexico to be with family we haven't seen for a very long time. They need us too ! We're here to fight for Canada and vote for a Conservative majority. Yes we'll be back to Mexico for Winter snowbird seasons. I really feel for you, Paul and Linda. I moved back to the States with my kids during the pandemic after living abroad for 15 years. I made an exit plan earlier this year and will bid farewell to high prices, homelessness, and crime in 2025. This place ain't what it used to be. Stay strong.
