First off, didn't recognize you with your haircut. LOL second, I agree with installing new wet bolts even though you put them in a few years ago. It's cheap insurance a good preventative maintenance. 👍

I noticed you welded angle iron and a plate to your spring hangers. Have you noticed a difference and mind if I ask about how much that cost for the angle piece and plate to be welded? Hi Chuck. Thanks for the kind words. We purchased our trailer new in Sept. 2016. In 2018 I had my wife's cousin reinforce the hangers on the trailer. I paid him $100 bucks at the time. I wanted the piece of mind in getting them reinforced. My trailer came with 6000 lbs springs, (3000 lb each) I put 7000 lbs springs on when I did this video (3500 lb each) Good luck with your project. 👍 Sean

You would have a lot fewer spring problems if your trailer had shocks on it.

Interesting statement, define "fewer", we have put just over 40,000 miles on the rig. This is the first time I have had an issue. So are you implying the spring would not have broken had I installed shocks? Of course you could be correct, but then, even with a set of shocks on, the spring still may have broken. 🤔

Why the added support on frame?

Back in 2019 we were preparing to go to Alaska in the spring of 2020. Unfortunately when COVID hit we ended up not going. But in preparation of that trip I reinforced the shackle hangers as a preventative measure. The Lippert welded hangers have a propensity to fail, and I didn't want to have a hanger failure in the middle of nowhere. 👍

I understand that this is an RV but what I'm about to tell you has nothing to do with an RV I have a 1999 Ford ranger that started having a loud creek and clunk in the front end I put it in the shop and had all the brakes, replaced got it back, same problem put it back in the shop had the entire front end rebuilt now here's the kicker so they said I paid $1,000 to have the front end rebuilt got it back, same problem took it back he said it's the leaf springs it's the leaf springs I drove it for 6 months, took it back had the leaf springs rebuilt got it back didn't change a damn thing same problem so I paid for upper and lower control arm replacement and bushings, took it to another shop they didn't inspection they said the leaf spring brackets are completely worn out and shot and so are the lower control arms and bushings. Here's my point I called the bureau of Automotive repair and I'm suing this shop that our buddies of mine and have been using them for 25 years, back to the point I don't trust you I don't trust them I don't trust him I don't trust anybody with my vehicles anymore I don't trust the guy next door I don't trust the best shopping in the United States with my vehicles anymore so when you tell me my leaf springs are bad I'm going to tell you don't f****** touch my f****** leaf springs now not only does the truck sit crooked front to back it sits crooked also side to side The front has always been higher than the back That's how those trucks are supposed to sit, and if you stand behind it and look at it it sits crooked now from side to side so nobody will ever touch my leaf springs on anything ever again on any vehicle I own

So more than $2,000 in it turns out all it needed was lower control arms and bushings that I paid for they never touched them cost me $500 to have the leaf springs rebuilt

Hi Kenny. Wow. Not really sure where to go with this. As you saw in the video I not only had 1, but 2 broken springs so they needed to be replaced. Sorry you had such an issue with your Ranger. Sometimes dealing with mechanical issues can be a PITA. I do all my own work, be it on our trailer or my vehicles. I was fortunate to have been raised by a man who fixed stuff, I took shop in High school after which I went to trade school in Phoenix and spent 18 months becoming a certified mechanic. At this point in life that knowledge is a catch 22, as I know how to deal with these issues, but I don't want to....LOL. When I suggest having someone else tackle a job my wife glares at me. My kids all have a list of stuff I need to do on their cars when I get back to UT. In any event, thanks for watching. I hope you found the video helpful or entertaining in some way. Safe travels! Well I've been using this shop for 25 years I took it back six or seven times for the same issue spent $2,000 they still couldn't get it right it never got fixed I filed a complaint with the state who advised me to take it to another shop and get it a second opinion and these guys figured it out in 5 minutes
