Thank you all so much for the love! What's your biggest question when it comes to approaching a detailed landscape painting? I'm curious to know! 🤔🕺

One difficulty I have is switching from the less detailed mid background to the very detailed forground. The transition is hard for me. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for your great videos.

How to push through the stage in which the painting sort of looks like a cartoon of what you intended and get it to the stage where the realism actually looks real. Also, what to do with a painting that is just.......not going where it should. What to do with the flops.

This piece in particular got me in mind of how much I need to learn about drawing water. Primarily the reflections and currents, and how they should behave in different types of water. Keep up the good work.

Hi Chuck. When u change to the oils are there any parts that should go on first? Do u let some dry before applying another color to keep it from smudging? (Like in the dark area details). Fun to watch you paint 🎨

Irene Galombeck great question. I hope to read his answer soon.
@chuckblackart
@chuckblackart 6 жыл бұрын
hey Irene, yes that would be what I would prefer. However, I painted the oil portion for this painting wet in wet. So I did not allow any of it to dry. If I was working on something larger and more detailed, I would probably let certain parts dry. In that regard, I like to work from the back towards the front in that order.

Incredible Chuck! You’ve inspired me to take my own art to the next level. Thank you for taking the time to teach and share your own art journey with those of us that are following behind you. I love these detailed walk-throughs. You’ve got such a great touch and explain not just what you do, but why, and that helps when I am setting up my own canvas even when I’m painting a completely different subject.

I'm a little late to the party here but still I am enjoying the tutorial videos Chuck, you approach painting the same way I do, I like your way of starting with a plain white canvas. I never had the patience for those who do the whole painting in browns and sepias and then paint it all over again in color. Love your style, you inspire me to keep on painting. Thanks!

The problem I have is you have a tendency to speed up and I can neither follow what you are doing nor the colors you are mixing. So after a year and a half and countless starting and restarting I still have a half done painting:( I give up.

YEA!!! You know I really like the more real-time tutorials ;-) This one is fantastic, and the painting is beautiful!!! I do understand it takes quite the amount of time to do the real-time vids, editing and such, so this is much appreciated. Thanks!!! The detailed colour studies are something I'm looking forward to, also. Something like a leaf, in Spring, Summer and Autumn, a feather...just any, really. It is so enjoyable to watch you paint because of the way you work. I'm very detail oriented, so your tutorials are perfect for me...besides the fact you do beautiful paintings ;-) Great work, Chuck!!!

@Chuck Black Art Hi, Chuck! I think I am beginning to understand that warm foreground and cool background colors can and are used interchangeably and in combination; however, it is the tint, tone, and shades that fit all the puzzle pieces together. Boy! -- when we are beginners/intermediate painters who are trying desperately to learn the art, it can seem so overwhelming at times. I'm trying to have something concrete to hold onto and follow, but I do believe, correct me if I am wrong, that we can pick up things here and there, but there is not anyone particular thing or things that we can nail down when it comes to creating works of art. @chuckblackart
@chuckblackart
@chuckblackart 4 жыл бұрын
That is the key! There is no one thing. And I know what you mean I feel that I struggled through the same questions about how to improve and what I should be learning. There are some basic dos don'ts that we all should avoid, but when it comes to developing a technique and style, there isn't an answer. So much of it just comes from picking up a few things along the way, and then putting a lot of practice behind it. I really believe there isn't a right and wrong way to make a painting, because if that were true, all art would be the same. So take a lot with a grain of salt, and collect the things along your journey that seem to fit for yourself. :) I think you are on the right track.

Great piece. I noticed that the reflection is slightly darker. Is that because water normally does that? I thought the colors should match? Maybe not due to the fact that the water’s depth?
@chuckblackart
@chuckblackart 6 жыл бұрын
From my personal experience I would say that the water reflection is usually indeed a touch darker then the actual object or subject. So yep I did this intentionally. My reference did show that difference in lightness as well. I think how much reflects has to do a lot with how clear or how dirty the water is, even the color of the water. so sometimes you might be right in that the reflection would be the same color as the sky. I think it all depends on the scene your painting

@chuckblackart
@chuckblackart 6 жыл бұрын
Yes water does do the same thing as the medium in a general sense. However, that white that I was using, stays wet longer than the other paints, and so that is why I use the medium for this painting so that the paint dries quicker
