Hi wild child, consider doing a seed saving video, we are growing about 75 peer cent of our garden with seeds that we saved from our previous veggies. Your videos are awesome,Russ from Ocala.

J, you are a terrific help especially for new gardeners. This basic info is necessary. Wish my screened porch had more light for seed starting although I love that I have a lovely porch that is mostly shaded. It’s a great place to sit and enjoy an iced cold tea when I take a break from gardening.

Aw! Thank you! I love a good covered patio! Just for your reference, my patio is 100% shaded. That’s where I’ve been starting my seeds and have been having some really great success. And the seeds you saw planted in the video, four days later, 75% have already sprouted. Hope your seeds go just as well if not better

How do you get pumpkins and watermelons to grow? I live in Palm Bay, FL and for 2-3 years now I can get long and large pumpkin and watermelon vines, but I NEVER get flowers or fruit… I have them in dirt mounds, of compost and organic dirt, mulch around them, flowers near them for bees and pollinators, well watered, and don’t get anything.

@thomasoakley8441 Maybe it's your variety? My Seminole Pumpkins are producing fruit in 9B right now. I let them vine on the ground. Trellising seems to kill the vine in full sun.

This is my first time commenting (I think) but I have really enjoyed your videos. I’m up in NW Florida, my grannies always had great gardens and I’m struggling! I grow some things very well and others not so much. I have basil for everyone in Florida 😂 Anyway just wanted to say thank you for all your advice! Starting a fall garden (seeds) now. I started sweet potato slips also and they look great. I hope to get that “great garden” someday.

Well hello there! How did you get slips? My sweet potatoes would not sprout they just rotted😔. My guess is Sam’s club sweet potatoes are maybe sprayed with stuff to prevent sprouting. So, maybe my question is: where I’d you get your sweet potatoes that would sprout??

I bought some plastic 5 level shelving units from ALDI’s awhile back that I use for seed trays on my covered patio. You can fit quite a few trays and they weren’t very expensive compared to others. Aldi’s also had seed starting trays but not as sturdy as the Epic gardening ones.

@@cathyplantlover2862 I bought the large clear plastic pantry bins and some narrow ones from Aldi that I started using after trying a binder with pockets, baskets etc. I put post-it notes also and use ziplock type bags of different sizes and the leftover organza bags for fruit for open seeds.

Hi! I’m new to your channel and love to watch your videos of native and Florida friendly plants! They are all so inspiring. I’m hoping to join one of your upcoming meetups online but can’t attend the one tomorrow. We recently used a local native nursery to help re -landscape our yard and got rid of all the grass and replaced it with a wonderful selection of native and Florida friendly plants. (I’m also in St. Pete) However now we are battling keeping up with the weeds without using herbicides. I’m overwhelmed with the maintenance and think breaking it down into smaller projects will help but need structure with it. Eventually I’d like to pursue growing food but I need to get this down first. . My question is- can I use your planner for my non vegetable garden planning and maintenance?

With regard to labeling! I've learnt here in the Florida sun, even sharpie fades kn plastic labels, but pencil or my favorite, grease pencil, will not fade from sun and doesn't wash away in weather.

Thanks for another informative video. I find it interesting that your tomato seeds take so long to germinate (21-28 days.) Mine rarely take more than a week (Everglades tomato are the exception) and they usually germinate in 3-4 days. A tip I'd like to share is that if you are using grow lights and are planting different types of seeds in the same seed tray, plant seeds with the same/similar "days to germination" rates in the same tray. If you plant seeds with different "days to germination" then you may have problems when it comes time to raise your lights. Seedlings that germinate later may not be tall enough for the lights to be moved further up and will end up becoming leggy as they stretch for the light. I hope this makes sense. If anyone doesn't understand what I mean then feel free to comment and I will try to clarify. :) ETA: When are you going to add sweet peas/English peas to your planner?
@WildFloridian
@WildFloridian 3 ай бұрын
That is what seed packets say. I was trying to give a guidelines on when to start over. The ones I planted in the video were all sprouted in 6 days, with most up in 3 days. But when we do this in winter, it will be slower based on temperature.

Question, I'm totally new so do we have to plant seeds every single year? I was under the impression that once the plant was madure it just kept growing fruit/veggies for it's life time lol😂 I planted tomatoes seeds like 3 months ago and the plants are now about 2-3ft tall but no fruit yet. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain the process because I couldn't stop laughing realizing I made every single mistake you advised to avoid. I also tend to plant seeds from store bough and then dissapoint myself when they either don't grow or die etc.

It’s about 2 years old & Im in Cape Coral

You could. Sometimes they don't break down fast enough and create root bound or they break down too fast and make a mess. BUT I would give it a try!

I considered myself a pro untill I bought a guava and passionfruit the other day and washed the seeds and dried the seeds and I can't get them to germinate for nothing , my inability to germinate those 2 seeds has made me nervous to buy any seeds lol despite never having an issue , I'm 2 weeks in with the paper towel method this time hopefully somthing pops

If you are talking about the peat pots I hate them. For me they never seem to break down and at the end of the season I find that they are still intact in the soil and quite often the roots barely made it out of the pot. :(
