Sr. I installed my APEXI NEO back in 2007. At first it ran exceptionally well. Then it kind of fell off in performance. Looking on the net for answers was not really helping. Until I saw your post. Great, it was a question of going beck to the basics. I'm turbo charging my 1997 Toyota RAV4, with the 3SFE engine. Will the Apexi work with a TURBO engine? A subscriber
@ForwardMomentum
@ForwardMomentum 4 жыл бұрын
Hello- I’m glad I could help in some way. The NEO will work with turbo applications. The problem is timing. Since it does not control timing, you’d be better off with a piggyback or standalone that has timing control. Sounds like a cool project. Would love to see more. Are you on IG?

Do you know how extremely talented you are bro ??? How much power can you really get from this set up ?
@ForwardMomentum
@ForwardMomentum 4 жыл бұрын
If you’re being serious, thank you. It’s hard to tell these days. There are some haters out there after all. Power gains depend on mods. I have seen 25-30 whp and nearly 40 TQ, but the mod list was extensive and included headers. In my case with basically exhaust, I’m pulling 11% fuel out of the map in places, just to hit 12.3 AFR. That goes to show you how rich these run normally. That said, I’m guessing I added 10whp and 15 TQ in places on my power band, but I need to dyno to be sure. I hit 5.1 0-60 one day which would back up my claims. I hope that helps!

Forward Momentum wow so you was able to do the headers my Lexus IS currently at almost 250k miles and I mean all maintenance engine wise has been done I upgraded to NGK spark plugs , upgraded the trans fluid also plus cooler , also timing belt radiator change plus upper and lower hoses plus diff oil change everything yiu can imagine just about I may change the torque converter to a high stall from dragon something .com it’s said to add like 50 extra horsepower but before I do that I might just 2JZ swap it completely for like 7k

@ForwardMomentum
@ForwardMomentum Жыл бұрын
GS400 ECU can’t be flashed. The Apexi NEO controls the extra fuel from your 330’s. Without it the car will run crazy rich. Be sure to adjust the fuel trims as well using a data logger and NEO “Lo” maps. Open Loop uses Hi maps. I have newer episodes explaining this in greater detail in my supercharger series. 👍

@ForwardMomentum
@ForwardMomentum 2 жыл бұрын
Are you asking how far you can lean out the AFR? You can’t tune this ECU; you can only piggyback it and manipulate signals (fuel control). I would stick to 12.5-13.0 AFR if you get a NEO and AFR gauge to street tune it. In all actuality though, I’d probably save my money and just manual swap it later on. I tried just about everything “easy” on mine and nothing really adds enough power to be noticed. The diff swap and manual swap are the exception. Those I could feel (but they don’t really add power). Next is the supercharger series. That’s the order I would go in to make the car quicker.

Installing an AEM UEGO wideband AFR sensor WITHOUT a welder! (Lexus GS400 shown) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmK4nYJpbpudgZY
@MrMalzers
@MrMalzers 4 жыл бұрын
Taken from fb post on this video. Can you comment? "The Lexus computer is too smart for a piggy back and will lean itself right back out in two days. Safc’s work great on several other applications, but not a later model (VVTI) LEXUS ecu. If you have a wideband you will see it lean itself back out in 2 days. So you’ll add more “fuel” to the tune, and it will lean itself out again, agin and again until you’re at +50% max on the neo. Then if you keep getting in it you will either pop your motor (if you’re boosted) or you will realize you need a controller/computer that will completely control the injectors with its own drivers. If you’re N/A, you’ll fiddle with it / “tune” it on the dyno and make your little number hp gain, and then in two days it’ll be running the exact same as without the controller after spending time and money. If you have a NON vvti 2J motor/computer you can use an SAFC or Map Ecu or aem FIC, or Greddy Emanage or whatever other piggy back your heart desires, but not on these VVTI computers."
@ForwardMomentum
@ForwardMomentum 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely false. My AFRs do NOT change on the high throttle map. Months and months of data to prove it. On the Low map I agree. Tuning the low map is pointless. The computer fights the low map tune and strives for 14.7 in most load factors. The exception on the low map is a cold start, where it reverts to your settings.

As a former mechanic who has cut out way too many problematic aftermarket remote devices, I just can't in good conscience tap into important sensor wires! Especially when the proper/safer way to do it would be to 'poll' the necessary info from the ECU via the CAN bus. The diagnostic nightmares possible from (unseen from the wiring diagram) 'phantom' devices I wouldn't wish on anybody! Sorry! Tonight was my turn to be the curmudgeon.

@ForwardMomentum
@ForwardMomentum 2 ай бұрын
$200 vs $2000? Plus, we have proven that AFC works. In fact, my friend has the same set up, with a TVS1900 and 400WHP. So I have no argument against a standalone at all, but in terms of finances I think it’s overkill. I have guys telling me all the time “but you can get a used standalone for $1000.” Oh really, what about the custom wiring harness, set up and tuning sessions? Add at least $1K to that. In the end I might be leaving 10-20HP on the table and a bit of a safety margin, but the goal was to show viewers that you can supercharge these things safely on a relative budget. 👍

If there’s a budget standalone that works I’m all ears. I have yet to find one that is recommended that’s under $1000 for just the unit. Regarding the NEO they come up in places all the time used or similar. Mine was $220 new on FBM as I found a guy that just didn’t use his and had it new in a box. When it comes to standalones I would go with units that gurus recommend only, such as Kelvin at CarTuneNZ.

@@ForwardMomentum yea I felt that it was pulling alot of volts from the battery the volts would drop while driving and rpms would drop. That could be a alternator issue but since it has not been powered on I dont seem to have that issue. And the battery stays charged longer. I'll replace alt and battery to see but.. anyway I pulled the box off and looking at the connections. They seem to be ok? It's hard to tell which wire it is since I cant tell where he ran it through the firewall. Any way I can send you a email with pictures of the wire pin harness and such? I don't want to pull the wires that look spliced and taped off there are multiple that are taped. I don't think he ran the ground like you did under the arm rest. It seems there is a green wire ran to a black and red on the pin. A purple wire to a grey, a black to a brown, a yellow to a red and blue a white to a red and blue a grey to a red and black and a brown to a brown then there is a different green wire not from the same bundle of cords running to a blue and yellow. Of course he says he dont remember how he ran it so. Currently have it on a battery charger I left the door open doing all of this lol. Also do you think I could just strip it from the back to not have to track this down and just run a hit lead and ground to the wires by the unit so I can see if it will even power on or is that a bad idea to splice it by the unit? I feel that would be easier than trying to track down which wire went where thru the firewall. Thanks soo much for your help man.
