This is my grandparents house! It has truly been overwhelming to see how much everyone has appreciated it. They just don't build houses with character like this anymore and haven't for close to a hundred years. Storybook style is my absolute favorite. If I could build a house from scratch, this is close to what I'd be aiming for. These homes have a personality all of their own and I hope the future owners appreciate it and don't change anything.

Houses are now built for modern convenience and function, as well as energy efficiency. this house is dark , small and has little planning for storage. This house has cute details but lacks any functional space. Look at the kitchen where are the dishes, pots and pans stored? Where is the food stored? How about the bedrooms? Where are the closets? Cute disappears when you have to hang up your clothes. Even in 1926 there were modern appliances that were used in homes built in that era. We grew up,in homes built BEFORE 1926 and they were well designed, light,good storage and the thought used for day to day living was apparent. Not so in this house. Cute doesn't transcend when you have to scrounge around for day today needs.

@@christinemeleg4535 I see your point, but I prefer these styles. To each his/her own. Since men were the ones designing homes, for the most part, some of them did not consider how to make the kitchen more functional for the house wife.

Raised out 3 children here, and yes, at 74 and 75, we are still here! We have maintained it and kept it up, facelifted the kitchen and hall bath.

This is the most charming little house I’ve ever seen, such a masterpiece. The designer not getting to move into it after all his hard work is just heartbreaking. This would be the perfect house for me as I’m an artist and would make good use of the studio. It has everything you need in a house for a little old man and his dog. I could have that as my forever house, although I love my house as well. Thank you again Ken you do such a good job and you notice all the tiny details that make a place special. I just love how cozy this house is, how it wraps around you gently drawing you up and down stairs, through arched passageways and secret rooms.I really am mesmerized by this little treasure and I have just the right furniture for it. Love those St. Louis Tudor style arched door cottages, that one is a beauty. I had a smaller Tudor style cottage from the twenties that had one of the little cabinet doors to retreive the mail without having to go outside, it also had a small kitchen, peole had dining rooms and actually used them. Those red granite pavers came from the renovation of the levee and old riverfront street. My childhood house in the county had some of those for flower beds.

The pervasive odor from fermentation will make you wish for a more functional windows and ventilation. We know, we have fermented wine, it stinks during the fermentation process. Also where is the wine press? Where would the equipment be stored, it is expensive and must be protected from mice and rats. In the poorly ventilated shed? Get realistic,this house was not designed to be functional.

Well, they’re accepting offers till Monday evening and then going from there. It mostly doesn’t work the way it used to where you put an offer in and it was dealt with right away. Now houses are shown for a period of time and offers are collected until a deadline is reached then reviewed and one chosen. I think $150k is a pretty fair price for a 2 bdrm, 1 bath, 1000 sq ft home with no garage being sold “as is”. 🤷🏼♀️
@rozinant12372 жыл бұрын
As a qualified home inspector, this home will require a lot of work, to be serviceable down the road. You could easily spend another 150K on upgrading and maintenance.
@rafaeltorre16432 жыл бұрын
@@rozinant1237 Why would you upgrade an historical home besides possible utilities? What would they spend another 150k on if it wasn't completely altering the home and property? Id guess it would be grandfathered in if it came to modern building code. It was cared for.
@rozinant12372 жыл бұрын
After almost 100 years, this home, almost assuredly, has two major problems. Notice how the ground floor sits even with the grade (dirt) this is one of the aspects that gives the house it’s cottage charm. Unfortunately this means that the structural floor system (wood floor joists) are guaranteed to be rotted out, which is going to be a very expensive repair. And secondly the insulation in this home is minimal at best. Heating bills for this house will be double what new home construction would offer. Some people may use the term “upgrades” to refer to cosmetic alterations, but this home needs serious building envelope upgrades to be habitable. Buyer beware!
