I would say it more of a case of doing a trial-and-error approach at the making of their music, in which their guiding themselves throughout the same genre and tone, but attempting different types of lyrics and songs, and chose the ones that are more fitting into the final product and giving them cohesion. It's all about cohesion

@@constantineq643 No, their sound was primarily hip hop, until the recording hiatus they went on after Meteora. In the same way that rapping over rock doesn't make something hip hop, playing guitar over hip hop doesn't make it rock.

I suppose having a generic beat makes it easier for people to accept the song as it would sound like everything else they've already heard. If it's something extremely unique and unfamiliar, a lot of people might not even give it a try. Another thing about bland sounding music is that you can play it anywhere, because it really doesn't stand out in a negative way, it's just noise.

I remember chanting the chorus of the song for my high school football game. However, I replaced the word “rhyme” with “game”, thus saying, “Who can rock the game like this?” since it’s a sports event. This song influenced me a lot for this not only because of Shinoda, but to have a true meaning of perseverance.

Love this tune. Will never forget what an influence this band had on me as a kid. I used to print off their pictures and lyrics after downloading just a couple of songs from audiogalaxy, then immediately went to record shops here constantly asking if the album was out yet, and nobody had bloody heard of them (yet!). They got me through some tough times; I'll always be grateful for these lads. RIP Chester.
