As you said, for 20 years or so they denied to release it or its existence. They played it and because it wasn't an official song I guess nobody really recognized it. Something else I've just remembered. In an online chat some people asked Mike about this song and he responded with something like "we're never going to release this song or any information about(period)" Honestly when I found this on KZbin my reaction was 'omfg' But that crackle in the audio, i can't tell if that's an audio effect or part of the early demos and their lack (back then) of good equipment

I heard that this was allegedy the first demo Brad Delson heard Chester sing on. He said "I remember getting that and saying, 'Hey, what do you think of this guy? He just sent us this recording.' I wasn’t like crying with joy, but almost. I was like, ‘Wow, I don’t even know what that is.’ He’s so tiny and vulnerable on the verse and you can hear all those timbres and harmonics and then all the overtones on the heavy part. Some unreleased songs have this 90s alternative/grunge influence that they lost after HT. and I think this is another bass player too.
@trychaser25184 жыл бұрын
@ I've been trying to wrap my head around who's playing bass on this track for a while now. The instrumental on both versions is the same, so this was likely on Chesters audition tape. Since the instrumental dates back to the Xero days (probably 98), I'm fairly certain it has to be Phoenix on this song. They only started playing with other bassists after Chester had joined. Lanoie had probably just been given the song in order to learn it. (as far as I know he only practiced with them like 2 or 3 times) Her's another somewhat related thing that confuses me: Kyle Christener was into slap bass (e.g. his solo at the end of Could Have Been) so I assumed he played on Esaul, given the slapped bridge section. But now that we know that the instrumental recording of Esaul also dates back to Xero it can't be him. Has to be Phoenix as well. Maybe that just seems weird to me, because I don't recall Phoenix ever slapping...
@trychaser25184 жыл бұрын
@@jamesedleymusic They were mastered for release in the box set though. I think Brian is referring to them being more interesting writing-wise. Madrugada, eu entro no KZbin e me deparo com esses presentes do Linkin Park.

THIS IS SO AMAZING! Why didn't you released Pictureboard before? It could be an amazing hit!
@RayGun42004 жыл бұрын
Cause it had a sample that didn't belong to them and they got it cleared for the HT 20th Anniversary which was smart
@DavidHutchinson07134 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they originally wanted to release it for the LP Underground 9 EP, but the sample issue forced them to pull it out at the last minute and replace it with Across the Line.
