Needs the bar to be twice as thick in every way. Also use 3-5 " screws where possible for added strength, make sure thread doesn't go all the way to the head, you want the thread to be half an increase away from the screw head.

If you place it too high, the lower portion of the door will cave much easier with force, which allows potential openings/access.

Finally, a good barricade! This one has a metal bar instead of requiring a separately purchased wooden 2x4. It's great to see it helps keep the bad guys out. Glad to see your little helper demonstrating its other use, keeping valuable babies in. :)

I like that it looks like it's easy to install. I would put it on the back door of my house since that's where I think someone would spend the most time trying to get in.

Looks better than a 2x4 in u brackets. Weak metal, the 2x4 works better.

Great piece of kit. More things you can do is use nice ling 3" screws on your strikeplate. These will go into the surrounding studs and make a door much stronger. Not as strong as a lockbar but as they say 2 is 1 and 1 is none.

Ease of install and use. Since it is made of steel it is much more durable then just a wood board going across the door frame. A good center door force kick can split a 2x4 in half. I would put this on the basement door before the storm cellar or bunker door. Give that extra level of time when escaping from someone or something.

One more to add- Look into Master Lock Door Security bar 265. This seemingly simple wedge saved my mom's back door from being kicked in and robbed. I might add it was used with the foot on short carpet. I think the most important thing with the install is getting the correct angle as knobs are at different heights especially when dealing with older houses. Would love to have this door barricade as a another line of defense on the same thin vulnerable door as they almost got in. It looks quick to install and remove when you need to open the door.

One problem I have with this, is not usable with door casing trim. Another, is I feel the retaining plate could be deeper.

Yeah I have tested another model thats designed to work with outswing doors and work with trim. Theres a video of that on the channel.

This is the type of product you buy and install, but hope you never need it. Most people will never be faced with this type of home invasion, but it happens to hundreds, if not thousands of people every day. The same thing applies to my CCW. I have carried a concealed handgun every day for the last decade. Fortunately I have never had to use it, but I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. This device would give me added peace of mind that I am doing everything within reason to protect my family. The way this attaches to the door makes this less intrusive than the bracket and board method you have previously mentioned. This device is out of the way, and the hat and coat rack make it look like it is part of normal home decor, not a security feature.

you kick like a wuss.. but its still not bad. the major weakness is that your side brackets screw into the door molding which isn't very strong. unless your door is tightly fit into the studs and header system and if you used 3.3/4th inch screws or larger to install the doorframe to the studs. then it would hold up really well. if you're gonna make the door hard to kick in.. you might as well make it police proof and that means installing the door with tougher materials from the begining.
