For takes, I would recommend never using the auto take button. I've screwed up so many scenes by forgetting that I left it on. Get into the habit of leaving "lock overrides" on and dragging whatever you need to be changed from the object manager into the take.

I never know when to use old or new materials. that isn't really well documented.

That transition is kind of forced on users as I believe the shader graph will eventually dissapear and we will only have a Node editor
