Almost 20 years ago I read A Child Called It. And was introduced to the concept of the family scapegoat. Since then I’ve read and watched so many incidents of this play out and I still don’t understand it. I’ve heard forensic psychologists explain it but my question is always, “Why?!”

If I remember correctly his mother finally told him she was proud of him, she died a miserable woman, again It's been awhile since I read it, but I'll always remember it. They kept him in the basement I think. And made him inhale bleach, real sick punishments. Oh yeah and she made the other children, (siblings) turn against him too, that's so sad.

We have 4 parties in Government. If we find one to be ignoring the needs of the people, which includes all children, we can have our voices heard. The US has just 2 parties, Republicans and Democrats. It appears to us that Republicans care only about having a Republican President, and taking vast sums from Arms, Oil, Food and other major corporations, to enrich themselves. Democrats, no doubt, have similar issues, but appear to be more in sync with the intelligent population. We see America sinking into a swamp, pushed by Donald Trump, the biggest conman to ever enter the WH. I just pray that sanity will soon prevail. The people deserve that.

The book “A Child Called It” makes you see that this is not an isolated thing. Extreme abuse by the whole family on just one child is so unbelievable. Usually there is drugs or alcohol abuse involved. The family can appear normal except for this secret of abuse. Sounds like this child was born with a disability which made him the weak one in the eyes of one or both parents. The real shame is these parents taught their other children to be abusers.

I remember this one time my dad had to protect me from my gma. Fast forward and I did the same to my sister from my mom and I was MAD! All the emotions from the time my dad saved me all came flooding back, I took my sister with me to my room and I put her to sleep and cried. I wondered same why just him but once they said at end he's autistic, it's pretty clear. He most likely was a handful to deal with, probably behaved badly didn't listen and so they abused the hell outta him, as if that's gonna make it any better.. they probably would get very frustrated dealing with him and took it out on him instead of taking time to find effective and positive ways to handle autistic child. I have a 10 yr old and a 16 yr old. My oldest daughter plays dolls w her little sister. When our youngest is upset she talks to her and gets her to calm down. This breaks my heart what this little boy had to endure. Please make sure he is in a loving home now and not repeating the cycle in a bad foster home❤

This is so sad. I'm a mother of an autistic child. It can be so frustrating when he can't or won't do simple things I know he's capable of doing. It's alot of work but so worth it I love him so much he's a part of me. I can't imagine doing what that family did to him people are sick.

Might help to remember that with autism, we’re not always capable of doing today what we did yesterday. It’s like having a bum knee. It works some days, other days you might need a cane. Same with autism and simple tasks.

This is why homeschooling etc. should be HEAVILY regulated. Kids need to be in contact with the system so abuse like this can be caught and prevented before it gets this bad.
