Steph is BACK! 🎉 This time she's sharing her Top 5 Flamboyant Brown Inks - aka Orange Inks 🤣 As per usual, there's at least one ink I'm not sure is even orange. But she did choose one of my favorites and she introduced me to another that has since become a favorite! What do you think? Did Steph choose wisely? Did she miss one of your favorite orange inks? My bottle of SHAEFFER RETRO SUNSET arrived yesterday. I loaded my Platinum 3776 Century, bourgoyne with gold trim, with this ink. The color slid across the paper flowing from my pen's M 14K nib producing beautiful color. It was the best of times writing, doodling, and drawing with the most gorgeous ink I now own in a pen of which I had forgotten. Just a lovely writing experience. My favorite orange ink is Sailor 50 States Florida. I need to get a sample of that Sheaffer Retro Sunset Orange. Pretty.

My favorite orange inks are all what you would call "burnt orange," a category unto itself and one you might circle back to sometime. I agree with other commenters that GvFC Burnt Orange is a standout. From this selection, I think I like the Sheaffer Retro Orange best. I'd never noticed that one before and it's quite nice. I think yellow inks are going to be tricky. They are so rarely legible. Good luck!

Orange is so under rated! Personally it's my favorite colour so love when there's some love for orange inks! My favourites are earl grey tea by Dominant Industry and Sunrise Orange by Kaweco❤

So many lovely inks. My favourite that I own is Sailor Shikiori Kin-Mokusei and my favourite that you all showed is Kaweco Sunrise Orange.

Orange isn't a colour I use a lot, so I don't have many orange inks, but I am quite fond of Robert Oster Ng Special '16. It has great shading, from yellow to dark orange. Really nice for flex nibs.

I have a sample of Special Ng-I purchased because it is my friend’s last name. It’s a little pale but beautiful

Orange is one of my favorite colors in pens and inks, although I have not used any of these. Thanks for the reviews! One note: it would be so handy if the inks discussed could be listed in the description below the video. It would be helpful for taking notes after watching.

oh I definitely love these Steph! My favorite orange ink is TWSBI ink ORANGE. it's perfect. But out of these, I'm anxious to try the diamine and the studio 173.

Orange inks are my secret favourites. Have 173 & never knew it was an orange ….missed the gentle kin mokusai …. Now I have to track down the sheaffer’s. . And yellow. Please. Can’t wait to see if Steph picks my all time favourite need the Steph/ Eric validation

Was familiar with Diamine’s Autumn Oak but not Kaweco sunrise which I suspect I’ll be ordering quite soon: thanks for the heads up:); do like Sailor’s ink studio inks esp.#173 just worry that it might be a bit light for me: tend to go for more saturated colours; currently only have one pen inked with orange which is my Pilot78g EF demonstrator inked with Iroshizuku yu-yake which is described as a burnt orange:); enjoyed this!, thanks:)

Think yellow inks might be a bit of a stretch: they are invisible when initially written but J Herbin ambre de Birmanie darkens to amber when it dries: nice yellow leaning amber - just a suggestion!:) - would love if you did teals: love Iroshizuku syo-ro for this category also Iroshizuku tsuki-yo is another winner, sorry to be so Iroshizuku/Herbin heavy but these are my two favourites, Diamine, Aurora and Pelikan rock too!:); blacks would be good, so would blue/blacks: Iroshizuku shin-kai is top dog here closely followed by Aurora blue/black and J Herbin bleu nuit:)

My favorite is the Kaweco. Orange has to be my least favorite ink. I had Iroshizuku yu-yaki and gave it away but but I want an orange vanishing point and I would look at getting that Kaweco sunrise for sure! I love the shading and yellow hues in it.

What is the deal? Don't you know that "no top 5 orange inks video is complete without.." Iroshizuku Yu-yake and GvF-C Burned Orange? Those are my faves. But I gotta admit you may have convinced me that I need more than two oranges. That Sheaffer Retro looks gorgioso!

Hey Steph, thank you for your video. I enjoy listening to your top inks. But may asked of you, something. I am an artist who uses Fountain pen to line my art work. I am looking for a good waterproof pink or red Fountain pen ink. Any suggestions or maybe you ans Eric can turn it into a top 5

For what it’s worth, for waterproof reds I’ve had the best luck with pigmented inks. Kakimori makes a couple, and Platinum Pigment Rose Red might fit the bill.

I hope Steph and Eric read my replies to other people’s comments re: Fuyu Gaki. Yellow, not a fan… I did find one that I somewhat liked but it has sparkles which is not that usable all the time but good. It was from the 2020 Diamine Inkvent gold star-

Your right about brown. Brown is dark orange, like navy is dark blue.

Hi Eric and Steph: In your ongoing assessment of inks, any suggestions of an ink that comes close to the infamous Parker Penman Sapphire? I currently have a Monteverde Sapphire which was recommended as being close )which I really like). I have also heard that Private Reserve DC Super Show comes close. Would be interested in what you have to say.

Lovely inks! Very personally inks have to be readable...don't get these sailor inks dilute/faded shades that are hard to read Iroshizuku Yu -Yake and Fuyu Gaki and Diamine Blaze orange are my favourite orange inks top favourite Fuyu Gaki That Sheaffer inks is awsome

I have Fuyu Gaki -If you have ever seen a FUYU PERSIMMON Tree in the fall you will very much appreciate the beautiful Iroshizuku Orange Ink. I was actually surprised that it was not amongst your choices. Frankly I get a little tired -fatigued of the quantity of both pens and ink that Sailor produces even though the quality is great.

Really great picks! Orange is such an interesting color - so true that it has bits of brown, red and yellow. I think I’d prefer a deeper nearing terracotta type of orange. I don’t have a favorite orange yet, I’ve tried Noodler’s Apache Sunset and Dragon’s Napalm - one is is more red and the other is more brown.

I still love Noodler's Apache "will be dry in -- oopps, not yet" Sunset the best, but have very strong ideas what Orange may and may not be for me, in an ink. Peach is not my thing, it ought not to be dirty, nor too red or bloody. Too pale is out, so Monteverde Topaz, Herbin Orange Indien, and Pelikan Edelstein Mandarin are out. (Not out, just not atop the list.) Too dark isn't cool, either, which dings Iroshizuku yu-yake. Ditto Noodler's Habanero, Cayenne is out, outright. Dragon Napalm is too vibrant, if there's such a thing; Shikiori kin-mokusei is a beauty but could have more shading. And V-Mail Operation Overlord Orange is a bit too dirty (and once clogged a pen of mine, which I didn't forget). Anyway, more point is: More ink reviews, please. (Btw. 173 is perhaps in the "Coral" Family?)

I like orange inks so thanks for the vid. BUT... this video is 90% people talking about inks and 10% showing the inks. It should be the other way around!

I am certainly not an english expert, but why is it inks, and not ink? Bottles of ink, but not inks. It really bugs me. I know it’s dumb but what can I say?
