I agree that the vibe of the shows has gotten better. I went to one of Ashley’s shows a couple years ago and she had the roast the daylights out of the room to get them comfortable and then this years tour was SO relaxed and everyone there was ready to crack up and following the punchlines more. My GF and I both remarked on the clear difference of vibe at the show and it was SO fun.

Thank you for seeing this and saying this. It is so hard to describe to non comedians and people just don’t believe me. But I think now that it’s been 2 years of touring and such a bigger scale people are finally like “oh yeah, the audience does actually kind of matter”. Obviously I’m gonna work my ass off to be as funny as possible every time, but it helps when people go in wanting comedy and understanding what that actually looks like, before, so many came in with expectations closer to a queer event / safe space (just based on the feedback I got plus the vibe)

@@ashgavsso as a non comedian, please explain to me how telling someone to KILL themselves is funny? In front of a full audience, with about EIGHT times to correct yourself, only to make it worse with everything that came out of that beavermouth?
@Fishful_Thinking410 ай бұрын
@@mariskaajoy3899I recommend watching the episode of The Chosen Family where she explains the situation in its entirety. It’s called “Finally Addressing What Happened.” I, too, was on the fence about how I felt towards Ashley before that episode and it completely changed the narrative. I think having the added (and very needed context) will allow you to offer a bit more grace. Everything about what went viral was taken completely out of context. Please do your research before attacking.

I've read a lot of sex workers talking about how the most "masc dudes" want to be submissive in the bedroom. It's like they're tired of being in charge, so in the bedroom, they want to release control. It's more common than you would think. I assume this can be translated to lesbian sex too.

I want to start by saying I believe in your kindness and I don't believe you want to hurt people with any of your jokes. I'm also putting my queer side aside and speaking as a black man. The comments dismissing bi people are really dangerous. No one wants to hear that their struggles are not real. I particularly don't want them to start believing themselves that their suffering is a lie. A recorded history of oppression is not the whole truth. I see that you address the public to make sure they matter, but our friends are the ones that need to be challenged, by us. I might be overreacting from my limited point of view, but maybe I'm not. I just thought it was important to speak up and trusted that you would at least listen.
@ashgavs10 ай бұрын
You know I debated cutting that part because of this miscommunication. And I understand what you’re saying and where you’re coming from. We don’t believe that. We are talking about something very specific in the comedy space that is very hard to get into in a comment section, that has nothing to do with bi folks outside of it, not bisexuality as a whole or bi people as a whole. We didn’t get into the thing we were talking about because it didn’t feel relevant, but that didn’t help clarify what we meant at all. We know about bi erasure and the folks bi people struggle with. I certainly feel a lot of privilege as a monosexual person in so many ways. I hope this helps.

@@ashgavs Thanks for answering. I wasn't sure if I should write this comment either. It's a comedy podcast after all. I worry that this feels like I'm policing you or the others, but I also worry that people will listen and not hear a joke. I'm older now, so I have to think of the children.
