Kolkata doesn't look very charming at first sight but when you slow down and feel, there is some unexplicable magic in the air. Just like Mumbai has, can't explain that either. It makes you want to live the fullest.😊

A famous Bengali songwriter Kabir Suman wrote -" এই শহর জানে আমার প্রথম সবকিছু, পালাতে চাই যত সে আসে আমার পিছু পিছু". Loosely translated it means, this city has been a spectator of all the things I experienced for the first time, and although I want to leave, it never stops following me behind. I have grown up in this neighborhood. Fell in love, had my first cigarette and spent countless hours bargaining for fish at the Gariahat market. This place has changed significantly since the early 90s but what has not is the idyllic charm, the quiet solitude you suddenly find in the middle of the alleyways at a stone's throw from the usual hustle and bustle of Gariahat. I currently live in rural Illinois some 9000 miles away from home, however thanks to the wonders of a globalized world and your beautiful KZbin channel, I get to be nostalgic about this place. I love how you are non judgemental and open about India which, sad to say, many of my fellow country men are not.

What abt the guy who used to sell fish fries, chicken cutlets in a glass box in the afternoon just in front of the market. And a stationery shop near Dover lane, just opp to Singhi park puja, who used to sell salami and sausages. This was in late eighties and early nineties.

The bamboo and other materials are reused all year round for weddings and all sorts of events. Fun to know: A lot of the themed ones, like some you shared in a previous video, get auctioned. They are often used for other pujas in the smaller cities in West Bengal. I believe some are bought by Bengali/ Indian communities in other countries for their events or Durga Puja next year. This has been a way to recoup costs for many years now, barring Covid. Much love to Hayes.

3:46 In Kolkata, most pastries and cakes are made eggless because egg is considered non vegetarian here. Even though the nonveg population is huge, a lot of people eat veg in specific days of the week. So, you'll always find an eggless options. But trust me, you wouldn't notice a difference they have absolutely mastered it and this is not for any particular bakery, you wouldn't notice a difference in most renowned bakeries.
