Some of the best ways to source new items for reselling is through word of mouth. In this case, word of mouth brought me a MYSTERY BOX of vintage sewing patterns, so I turned on the camera and recorded the whole thing.
I always try to note what era the vintage pattern is, what size, and what basic condition is so you can get an idea of what is a good vintage sewing pattern and which ones are duds.

My Grandmother made the Mail Order 1236 (3rd from last around the 46 minute mark) It was her 'good dress' for many, many years. The dress was a wedgewood blue crepe with cream lace trim and pearl buttons.

She would have looked so elegant in that dress, I loved that one and the 1928 top and skirt suit, both would be wonderful trimmed with vintage buttons.

The Marian Martin 9318 is wonderful. 😘 Back in my 110 lb 1980's I would have loved this dress pattern. My fashionable mother, who worked in the Pentagon in the mid 1940's would have loved this dress too.

What’s up with all the straight pins? Is there a way to scan a pattern and do a group sew along? Even if it’s an apron I think a live stream of sewing the same pattern with you would be so fun.

I really need to remember to have a notebook with me whenever I watch your unboxing videos; I always want to check out some of the patterns in more detail. I love seeing the variety of designs that have been made through the years. You can always TRACE the patterns and then sell the originals! Then you're not keeping any! Please make the mystery slip! (Slip fabric musings: Silk is great and all, but it's expensive and warm. Polyester is nasty. I'm unsure about nylon. Bemberg rayon MIGHT be great but I haven't tested it yet. Linings made from rayons such as viscose, lyocell, etc. may also work; I just bought a 70%/30% viscose/polyester organza on clearance from Joann that was part of their Casa collection and I'm optimistic about it. It was originally $29.97/yard and I got it for $6.99/yard, so I'm considering that a very lucky find! Joann also carries what they call "Silky Lyocell Fabric" which is drapey and soft and I want to bury myself in it, but it is a bit too grippy for a slinky slip. Makes great summer PJ's and tap pants, though. I'm currently having a love affair with rayons, can you tell?) Oh man, do I LOVE that mail order with the cool top! 13:52 I would love to make and wear that!

hee hee, secret pants. I have to wonder about the newspaper. My grandmother's old patterns occasionally had a piece or 2. I wonder if it was because the factory was out of tissue pieces, so they cut one out of newspaper, and sent it out.

There were so many awesome patterns! I would take all the 38 bust if I could, but alas the budget is small to none right now. I found it funny that you received another girls one piece pajama pattern right after sending me the other one. My girls are so excited about those pajamas. If you make simplicity 2514 for your daughter she can twin with my girls because I have made this one for my girls. It is darling cute.

It was quite common for patterns to be cut out of newspaper when making alternations or to save the tissue from being worn out. Or if you borrowed a pattern to cut it out of newspaper before returning to the owner. Frugal ladies back in the day.

forgive me Stephanie for I have sinned... I have put tape on a few of my vintage pattern envelopes. The envelope was falling apart and I thought that tape would be better than losing the whole envelope but I didnt know that the acid in the tape would ruin it like this (I thought the reason to not use tape was because it looks bad and can catch on the tissue, but I should have done more research) :( Is there anything I can do now to mitigate the damage of the tape. I know now about archival tape and proper acid free storage so Im using those going forward but I still feel bad about the tape on those few envelopes :(

It's ok, we have all sinned in some way, even I (at the WEE BEGINNINGS of my career) *GASP* cut apart a 1950's mail order instruction packet (because there were no pieces, just instructions) and made a notebook from it. Now, I have since learned and will never do THAT again. And yes, there is a way to recover from it, but I am trying to align my schedule with that of the owners of Vintage4Me2, the queens of removing tape. Keep an eye out in 2022, I WILL get this video made so we can all save the patterns!

The little girls' patterns are so cute. I just can't imaging little kids wearing anything like that today without ruining it in 30 seconds flat. Equally, I can't imaging small kids being much different today than from 60 years ago so were the cute things essentially party dresses or for functions rather than for everyday?
