It's wonderful that over a billion people have viewed this. We need a few billion more. 💗 Most Americans loved seeing the Russian people finally free! The people of East Berlin finally free and able to join their brothers and sisters in West Berlin in freedom! Unfortunately, the "Children of tomorrow" are only waking up to widespread war. Why can't we do better?

You idjot this is not about "freeing Russia" but freeing East Europe and East germany from communists from Russia, they were already and are still there in Moscow

Wonderfully put. Today's generation doesn't realize the terror that we all lived during the 50's. 60's, 70's & 80's. The polarity that existed and the fear is always downplayed or forgotten. The JOY that was felt that day of the Reuniting of Germany & the families and culture was a celebration around the World!

But for the Russian people it all looked completely different. After the collapse of the USSR in the 90s, we plunged into chaos, poverty, unemployment and ethnic conflicts. At this time, the West exported our resources and raw materials for next to nothing, and actually robbed our country with the help of comprador elites. This is such freedom.

Such an amazing song.. The singers voice is like silk... And the guitarists need more credit, they are seriously good. Great reaction Steph!

A very powerful song. Yes there is bittersweetness in the song. It shows where we were and where we are going. It seems since that song came out we have reverted into more violence. The world is what it is, full of the beautiful and the ugliness. Thanks for the reaction.

Yes indeed, it is an amazing song and it truly showed the hope and vibe after the Berlin Wall fell. We actually had a decade where we thought things might get better, then 9/11 and the pandemic happened and now we are in the mess known as 2024. I was way happier in 1973 but so it goes... The Scorpions on the other hand are always worth celebrating, a great band with several eras of pioneering hard rock and great guitar work. Try Lovedrive sometime for music magic from a band you will love. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

The end of the Cold War...was such an amazing time. We felt like anything was possible for we had just ended the war that divided the world. People who had no freedom were becoming free, even with the hazards that freedom has, everyone wanted to be free. Such a time. For a song along the same pace as this song, try Holiday. For a song that was more typical of the band, try The Zoo.

My father was in West Berlin after World War 2 during the airlift, just prior to the wall being built. When the wall came down in the late eighties and Russian troops left East Berlin, that theoretically ended the Cold War that had been going on for 4 decades.

Scorpions grew up in former West Germany not far from the border to East Germany or the so called Iron curtain if you will. When things began to change dramatically in Europe during the late '80s and early '90s lead singer Klaus Meine went to Russia and Moscow. The opening lines goes "i follow the Moskva down to Gorky park and listening to the wind of change". He got inspired when he was walking along the river down to a big park in central Moscow. This while the world around was changing fast and eventually the very thing no one really believed happened. In 1990 East Germany ceased to exist and Germany became one country again. And in 1991 the entire Soviet Union collapsed.

Scorpions should be in the R&RHOF. It’s criminal that they aren’t. They haven’t even been a candidate. WTF! Anyway a great song that you should react to is “Send Me An Angel.”

Still relevant today, 35 years after the fall of the Berlin wall, with current events around the world. If you want more background about the video, look for: 1989, year of miracles (here on y-tube)--you'll see many of the images used in their video. Have a nice day, Steph.

As a German, I saw the Berlin Wall fall in 1989, the rapprochement between East and West was greater than ever since World War II and the Cold War seemed to be over. Today you can see how fragile freedom and quiet times are, how short the period of peace was. Societies are divided, fascists are on the rise again all over the world and I feel like a helpless observer.

Great REACTION Steph!! I am sure that many people have commented on the events that the song was commemorating... and the current events of today. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has undone all the peaceful progress between the East and West. Not to mention what is going on in Israel. When I hear this song now I think of what an old Russian friend, who became an American once told me after I asked him how often he goes to Russia to visit. He said he will never go there again, even though peace exists. He said it's because what his father and grandfather told him. That Russia will never be a peaceful state. It lies dormant like the hibirnating bear, which represents the country. People there are used to being controlled so they are comforted by it, and will support aggression. Even though millions of people have suffered over the previous century. I hope what you say comes true, and you made a very intelligent statement. That we will never have complete peace, but we should always try.

Klaus Meine is one of the most amazing rock singers of all time. His voice is incredible. If you want to hear him really shine, listen to We'll burn the Sky, In Trance (especially the older live versions from the late 70s), Always Somewhere, or Send me an Angel. I would be back for these reactions for sure :)

"curles in maggies hair" is an awesome song made by cuple guys here in sweden Halmstad. my father knew the singer back in 70s or 80s, the singer was in a band called sydkraft i belive earlyer, was a punk band at the time punk was falling behind here. (this might not be true, but what i heard) - is that the singer is no longer alive. but he sure did some bangers before he left edit: its not at all a song many know of. so its a gem for those who finds it :)

This song was the anthem of the end of the cold war. I was 13 years in 1989 and I felt the beauty of the moment as the iron curtain sunk and the berlin wall was removed by the people from both german states. What makes me sad now, is how the politicians all over the world a starting a new cold war.

Its tad amusing watching people of the younger generation trying to understand what this song is about:). What is not so amusing is that despite the hope most of all felt back then it turns out that world is still a place where distrust of each other seems to reign supreme.
