I’m pretty sure this is my favorite old school power ballad. I’d read that The Scorpions are the best selling band out of Germany. My suggestions for other hit songs include ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane’, ‘No One Like You’, ‘The Zoo’, ‘Big City Nights’, and ‘Send Me An Angel’.
@DRAONWEED Жыл бұрын
I think Rammstein is also on that list, but when it comes to old school rock, Scorpions are on the top. Don't forget about Warlock & Accept, two more from the 80s metal scene.

This is an edited video for their official single, the guitar at the end goes off for awhile in the extended version. The Scorpions have a long and illustrious career, founding members Rudolf Schenker (mainly a beast on heavy rhythm and on 2nd lead guitar, they always had 2 guitar players) and Klaus Meine is still the vocalist. They started in 1970 with Rudolf's younger brother and phenom Michael Schenker (UFO & MSG) on lead guitar. When Michael left the great Uli John Roth took over lead guitar duties for most of the 70s. He would leave in the late 70s to start a solo career. Mattias Jabs would take over the majority of lead guitar duties in 1979 during the sessions for what I consider their best album, Lovedrive, with Michael Schenker coming back for 3 killer songs, the whole album, as many of theirs are, is worth a listen. Do Lovedrive for sure. They became huge in the 80s, selling over a hundred million albums. The Scorpions are a deep rabbit whole, I have been a fan of theirs since the debut album Lonesome Crow 53 years ago, saw them 9 times from 1979 to 2004, they never disappointed and you will find tons of great songs by them. When you get 100s of millions of views on your songs, you must have done something right, they sure did! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

Thank you for reacting to this wonderful song from my favourite band. To me Klaus Meine is the most amazing rock singer who ever graced a stage. No one can transport emotion in their vocals just like him. If you want to hear an even more incredible example of his stunning vocals, listen to We'll burn the Sky, 1978 Musikladen version. That one just blows you away. Other brilliant examples are In Trance, Send me an Angel, Always Somewhere. That man's voice is incredible.

Scorpions came from Hanover, (West) Germany... they are the longest-running German rock band and easily the most commercially successful from the country w/ a global fanbase from Asia to South America. The band's sound was hard rock, but they also recorded a string of ballads that brought in the women... "Still lovin' you" was 1 of their most successful singles from 1984 from their biggest record 'Love at first sting'. The Scorpions have a long history, formed as a 'beat rock' combo in 1965 by Rudolf Schenker (guitar) who was their original singer as well... he was inspired by the British rock bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who, etc... Rudolf met Klaus Meine (vocals) who was singing in another local band called Mushrooms, and the 2 became close friends... When Mushrooms needed a guitarist, Rudolf recommended his 14 yr-old younger brother Michael Schenker for the band. Eventually, Klaus and Michael joined the Scorpions around 1970, w/ Klaus Meine taking over lead vocals from Rudolf Schenker ... They heard the jazzy blues rock by Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Led Zeppelin... and wrote songs in that style and opted to sing in English to get more appeal in Europe... In 1973, Michael Schenker left the band to join UK rockers U.F.O. and the Scorpions broke up. Using the name Scorpions, Klaus and Rudolf got a new line-up in 1974 w/ Ulrich Roth (now Uli Jon Roth) on lead guitar and Francis Buccholz (bass), and played a more melodic hard rock music w/ the album 'Fly to the Rainbow'... Scorpions went through a few drummers until Herman Rarebell (drums) joined in 1977. They released a string of albums in the 70's and finally got a major tour of Japan in 1978, which was recorded for a live album 'Tokyo Tapes' in 1978... However, Ulrich Roth quit the band that year... Michael Schenker briefly rejoined in 1979, but left after recording the album 'Lovedrive'... Matthias Jabs (lead guitar) joined the Scorpions and became a permanent member as they toured America for the first time in 1979 supporting the 'Lovedrive' album... Scorpions evolved in the 80's into an arena rock band and scored a string of platinum records and hit singles that made them dominate the 80's and early 90's... selling millions of records worldwide. However, the arrival of 90's grunge rock cause the decline of 80's rock and the Scorpions found themselves declining in popularity by 1996... both Herman Rarebell (drums) and Francis Buccholz (bass) had quit the band by then... James Kottak (drums) joined in 1997 and Pawel Maciwoda (bass) eventually joined in 2004 as Scorpions started to slowly make a comeback... Their 2010 album 'Sting of the tail' was supposed to be their last... But after touring into 2014, Scorpions made the decision to carry on. Mikkey Dee (drums) joined in 2016... Scorpions' latest album was 'Rock believer' in 2022.

Scorpions are a German band, so Winds of change is written from a deeply personal point of view, considering they wrote it shortly after the Berlin Wall came down. If you didn't know that before, this knowledge will give you a new perspective on the song.

When I saw them play at Monsters of Rock in front of 50,000 people and do it perfectly live, I gained enormous respect for them, and discovering their 20 or so albums after that was freakin' wonderful. Yes, one of the very best bands ever.
