It's for sure my favorite. So wistful and perfect and it transcends the "I'm a ramblin' man" trope, it becomes a bittersweet and human take on how we are finite and we can't ever know what might have been

The difference between Zeppelin and most other bands is that you could go see them two nights in a row, and you'd likely see a different song set. The vocals, solos, and everything else would be different. They never played the same song the same way twice, so every performance was a unique experience of what they happened to be feeling in that moment. These were not polished and rehearsed shows, they truly just jammed and improvised everything as they went. So every performance was a "once in a lifetime" experience.

Same with The Doors, Hendrix, Cream, etc. That was not unusual when I was young. Click tracks, and prerecorded song segments really weren’t a thing back then. Zep and other bands may have had a prerecorded something here and there, but by and large, live was live at a concert. It wasn’t for purity;s sake or anything. It’s just the way it was. The tech for doing it during a live show was very unreliable as well.

And this is why in 1977 Led Zeppelin sold out the Silverdome stadium in Michigan at a record attendance of 76,229, which was then a Guinness Book of World Records for the largest attendance for a single act show at that time.

The 1970's were the golden age of the lead guitar solos. From Led Zeppelin to Pink Floyd, Queen, Ten Years After, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath, Eagles, Heart, The Doobie Brothers, Rick Derringer, The Guess Who, BTO, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, YES, etc. All faithfully following in the footsteps of their 1960's guitar mentors like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck. Note, it was Eric Clapton who played the lead guitar solo on the 1968 Beatles song, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". And Jimmy Page was of course also from the '60's rock era following his own path as a Blues rocker, and record producer.

“I live for my dream and a pocket full of gold… some Acapulco gold!” So many great lyrics in this song, along with that almost whimsical guitar intro, into that sonic explosion, this song hits almost as hard as any Zeppelin tune. This was a popular song by them in the early 90’s when they released their box set. They even have an official video to accompany it. Not sure why it’s not quite as popular now. I guess the “problem” with Zeppelin is just the sheer strength of their musical catalog. Might as well play Zeppelin roulette, you’ll never miss. 🍀 🎶

Hi Steph, love your Zeppelin reactions! I was fortunate to be at this show at Madison Square Garden in 1973 when I was 15 years old! I also saw them in 1972, 1975 and 1977. And I was at their final reunion performance in 2007 in London. That is unfortunately the last time they played together and there are some great videos from that show. If you wanna see how they played when they were older. But they broke up in 1980 after the death of their drummer, John Bonham. His son Jason an excellent drummer himself played with them at the 2007 reunion.

This is one of the very few that never had an opening act. They played their hearts out for over 3 hours and then hopped on the, Led Zeppelin, Starship to the next city and do it again the next night. Also, the concert would have the same playlist but never played the same songs the same way every time. Each concert was different from the last with their uncanny ability to ad-lib and improvise. This is why they are still so relevant in 2024 and will continue to be. As usual, Stephanie. It is obvious that you are really interested in this band and I can see the sincerity with all of your reactions. You are the best reactor on KZbin in my humble opinion. ❤

That's a great vid, from the Madison Square Garden film! I have to say I've seen it before but...have I? What the heck? Anyway...wow. The band is brilliant, period. Wonderful song and they went deep into the groove and jam in the middle solo section. Damn Jimmy is a genius. Hey Steph, please check out, for your own purposes, the studio version of the song. Robert uses a different melody and vocal attack on the studio version. On this version, he played it a little toned down and smooth, probably because he is managing the strain on this throat during the tour. But the studio version is major-classic, babe! You rock! It's so good to see the new Gen digging the greats. Beautiful.

Great reaction Steph, nice to hear more less watched songs that most non Led Zep fans are use to. Like most of these legendary bands the more you dive in you realise that they have even greater songs because every body knows the songs played on the radio or what they have heard. When you dive in you realise that most of their other songs are even better than what you heard on the radio, or are being reacted to. This band was around for 10 years they have a lot more in their catalogue than Stairway to Heaven, dive deep Steph you will not be disappointed.

The thing about Zeppelin is they had so many GREAT songs that some were overshadowed by others and in some cases not seen as 'being up to their standards' and therefore not all that good ... when in fact they were still fantastic songs. One I love, a short that's on the fun side, is "Boogie With Stu." I have always thought it was great, but it wasn't a big hit. It's not real impactful, it doesn't slap you across the face (in the best of ways) like so many Zeppelin songs .... but it's still really good.

Back in the day (`65-75) AM radio wanted songs 3 min or less. I grew up in the SF Bay Area and there were 2-3 FM stations that played the songs (in stereo!) right off the albums! Went to experience them in `69-70 at Winterland (SF) for $5! Then in `77 Day on the Green Oakland ballpark. Live WAS an experience! GOAT foe sure. NEVER gets old.

Just him and Bonzo going at it for like 12minutes.The song is actually from the last album of the Yardbirds before Page formed Led Zeppelin after that band split up. He uses the Danelectro guitar he used on "In My Time Of Dying" but not as a slide guitar.

I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on KZbin. 😀

Really I know your already reacted to many songs. But if you really want to understand this band and their diversity. You need to just start from the begining. The first album Led Zeppelin l. Side one and do a complete album listen reaction. That's the way this music was intended to be herd. You will be blown away. With each song you will have a new favorite. By the the end of side one. Every song takes you soul each for a different reason. You think OMG it can't get better than this. Then as side two begins. What do you know a new favorite song. When you finish the first album. Well you are quite lucky because you can right away start Led Zeppelin ll. In our days we had to wait until the new record was released. So we played the first album over and over. Learning word every solo ,every, drum fill. You couldn't wait until the new record was in the stores. Waiting in line the day it was released. Then going home to listen to it. That's why Zeppelin fans are so hard core . Now your thinking as you drop the needle on side one. It can't be better then the last record. Trust me it is. And it continues to be with each new record. By doing it in order you will really see how the band grows with each new album. That's just my suggestion. If you just want to bounce around . I know you would really like. The Song Remains The Same / The Rain Song . You need to do both these songs together. And the best performance in my opinion is the 1973 Madison Square Garden recording. Love your reactions. Side note Tu es muy bonita. ❤ LZ the greatest band to ever grace the stage!!!

His vocals. Wow. Very different than the original. But ... still great, of course.
