There Goes the Neighborhood" is the twelfth track of Body Count's self-titled debut album. The song is a sarcastic response to critics, sung from the point of view of a racist white rocker who wonders "Don't they know rock's just for whites? / Don't they know the rules? / Those niggers are too hardcore / This shit ain't cool.
The music video, directed by Matt Mahurin, ends with a black musician implanting an electric guitar into the ground and setting it on fire. The final image is similar to that of a burning cross.[4]

serious? that's the second story like this about Ice T that i've heard. a friend of mine who is really into rap told me that Ice has actually roadied for his friend and fellow rapper Kool Keith! and this was well after Ice was famous. i'm not really a big rap fan but Kool Keith is the SH!T! we should all be fortunate enough to have friends like Ice T!

3 out of 5 guys in this version of BC are now dead. Bassist, Mooseman was killed in a drive by, and both drummer, Beatmaster V and guitarist D-Roc died of cancer. Body Count are still going strong with new members and are kicking more ass than ever! Their last album "bloodlust" is possibly their best.. check out the video for "Black Hoodie" directed by Treach of Naughty By Nature

There has long been an undercurrent of casual racism within parts of the metal community, and this song addresses that in a direct and "in your face" manner, that was needed nearly 30 years ago when this song came out and sadly is still needed today. The guitarist, Ernie C , along with Rocky George from Suicidal Tendencies , have long been woefully underrated

I agree with you 100% I was a small part of that problem back then.. tho not racisim-based.. it was genre based.. 'rappers cant do metal.. they lack the skill' I was dead wrong and this band/album proved it to me back then. Changed my mind quick, fast, and in a hurry. Peace

This band is an interesting story. Ernie-G (extremely underrated guitarist, by the way) used to play guitar for Ice-T during the 80's at his rap shows. When they toured Europe, Ice noticed that crowds there would headbang at rap shows. That kind of blew him away, and being a metal fan, he decided to start a metal group with Ernie-G so they could have a permanent gig together. The band itself is actually phenomenal. Just buckets of talent oozing out. Subscribed. You 2 are good people.

They're new music is crazier. The drummer was Beat Master V RIP. The guitarist is Ernie C. Body Count was originally his friends from Chrinshaw High. Ice T has always been a Metalhead since he lived with his aunt and cousin. His cousin got him into it. Peace.

I was 25, a Soldier, stationed in Germany, single and lived in the barracks...me and brothers would jam this as loud as our speakers would play!! We would laugh at how messed up the US had become; we all vowed to make it better! My whole squad was very mixed racially and we are brothers to this day. We would talk about shot like this and realized that most people didn’t have to lean and trust the man next to him, no matter the color of his skin, and that all of us are the same and different at the same time! I’m not a super fan of rap, but can see where it comes from and a few of my brothers were strictly rap and a few country...but we all accepted our differences! Peace to you guys!!! Thank you for doing this song!!!!!! Play your song please!

It was on quite a bit even though I think it was one of those videos that couldn't be shown during the day (it might've been because of language, but don't hold me to that). And randomness now: Ice-T's on Law & Order SVU. Drummer in this video is Beatmaster V (he died in 1996 from leukemia) and lead guitarist is Ernie C. And I... forgot what else you asked 😁

Cheers from Finland guys! I've listened many kind of music: jazz, reggae, country, folk, blues, rock, hard rock and currently getting to know new metal bands. Seen people of every ethnicity all over the globe reacting, and I have read them comments a lot. But I don't recall seeing yet a comment saying why is that ethnicity person listening to metal. I think those comments are rare. Welcome Body Count to Tuska metal festivals! About your idea of reverse reaction: go ahead! You could still react to that song, even if it was picked by you, and then people in comments do the same.

Ice-T’s Body Count was from the early 90’s. They were touring with metal bands that were mostly white. There was no pushback from the metal community that I ever heard of, but Tipper Gore and other politicians who wanted to censor free speech were pushing a narrative that “Cop Killa” was going to influence young people to shoot police. Anthrax and Public Enemy teamed up to do a metal version of Public Enemy’s “Bring Da Noise” and that was received well by the metal community. If you look at where metal has its roots, Chuck Berry took us from big band music to Rock ‘n Roll (AC/DC’s lead guitarist regularly does the duck walk as a nod to Chuck Berry). Jimi Hendrix came along and took us from Buddy Holly to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, which made its way to Metallica and Megadeth. Ice-T is half black, but so is Slash from Guns ‘n Roses and Lenny Kravitz. Kid Rock’s band (Twisted Brown Trucker) is comprised of multiple races. Metallica’s lead guitarist is biracial and the bassist is Mexican-American. Slayer has at least one Mexican-American in the band (I never really listened to them because I was a bit uncomfortable with their satanic imagery). Music doesn’t belong to any particular race. U2, Tupac, Metallica and The Wu-Tang Clan are always on in my car. There are always going to be detractors who are looking to complain about something and a few of those idiots must has come across your channel. Unfortunately, when you open yourself up, it’s inevitable that some of the bad gets let in with the good. Metal traces its roots back to Hendrix. The Legendary Lemmy Kilmeister from Motörhead started out as a roadie for Hendrix and Motörhead inspired Metallica. Not to be repetitious, but music knows no color. I’ve yet to see a black Polka band, though! 😂

I Know I'm late to the party. Just wanted to say that the metal community is one of the most welcoming and caring communities on earth. It's just a small percentage of metal heads that hold such close minded beliefs. Now days if you go down in a moshpit you are more likely to have some one grab you by the hair and drag you back to your feet so you don't get stomped on.

I'm white and I love seeing people from other cultures and races enjoying and creating metal. Anyone who doesn't like that doesn't fucking understand metal as far as I'm concerned. Maybe it's because of where I live, but I don't recall anyone saying that they think metal is only for white people. It's been so cool especially lately, seeing people incorporate their local flavors to the metal sound; Mongolian metal [Suld, Tengger Calvary], Indian Street Metal [Bloodywood], Polynesian metal [Alien Weaponry, Sheperds Reign], Taiwanese metal [Chthonic], Middle Eastern metal [Melechesh, Myrath, Orphaned Land], there are even some metal bands and metal scenes popping up in African countries like Botswana and Zimbabwe [Wrust]. It's fucking great. It makes me happy.

One short story about me: I am from Vienna - Austria, and in 1992 when this album was a revelation for us young kids, even if we have no black communitys in our country, we also had some questionable police killings and some questionable handling of guilt. Even if its far less than your police killings, still it got us enraged. And than seeing I-Tea bringing up all this matters was so liberating for us youngsters. And to having any black person as my neighbors couldn't be more traumatizing then any of my current neighbors. So listen to the full Album, it will blow your socks of.

All agreed, no “Cop Killer. “ They played a great show, and the tune - Cop Killer; if you know what went down in the eighties between the LAPD and humanity you will understand the anger emoted fiercely in the song, anyway, the crowd went crazy, we all had a great time and nobody got hurt. Something funny; I've seen Ice-T and Body count live multiple times; The white community appears pretty welcoming; Body count is 98% white fans (looks like to me at least). I think Ice-T is talking about a tiny percentage of people. Just like Steph was saying (she's so pretty and smart ;) But it's in the vain of metal music to create music about shit that is upsetting, the other side of the world that isn't so nice and clean and fun to talk about. Everyone knows it exists; but we'd rather it just stay tucked under the table. That shit has emotion attached to it and I think some sorts of music bring that stuff up and those emotions to the foreground. Metal does it for me, hip hop does it for me, and sometimes other genres. I actually can't listen to metal or certain rap music in my car anymore due to all the speeding tickets I was getting. I just get lost in the music and next thing I know I'm doing 95 in a 65... Anyways; there are two types of music that I've seen grow in popularity that I will straight up trash talk at any moment; Mumble Rap, And Country Pop. Nope; never gonna listen. If y'all get a chance to listen to something new. My boy Dem Atlas has a a new thing out on KZbin called The Visual EP. I think he's one of the coolest new artists in hip hop and this video/music experience is next level! Peace out guys! You both kick ass! have a good rest of July!

Metalheads don't care who you are, what you look like, or anything else. It's the least judgemental genre of music. If you're passionate about the rock that's all that matters.

Forget the haters! I've listened to all kinds of music and enjoy the diversity that it brings! Keep listening to what y'all like and what makes you happy, don't listen to what posers say. Real music lovers know that music transcends race and all the bullshit that's in the world! Rock on guys!!!🤘

Man, I could not give a hoot what colour someone is. One of my all time favourite bands are the Bad Brains and they are four Rastafarians playing Hardcore Punk. Fuckin' amazing. Good starting place would be the track 'Play to Cum'.

Me and my buddy first heard Body Count during the credits of the movie universal soldier......we had to hear more! In 1992 we had to watch the credits to even know what the song called, then had to order it at the record store. The whole album was killer and listening to it expanded a couple of white kids understanding of the world in rural new Brunswick Canada(Comparable to North Dakota in population and demographics).
