GGG's biggest mistake in this fight was not going to Canelo's body. It's no secret that Canelo has stamina issues and I just don't understand the headhunting tactic. Kill the body, the head will follow. I remember when GGG was steam rolling guys because he was mixing his attack up between body and head and he's just abandoned that.

This is my exact analysis, and anyone saying, because Canelo would've countered, you're wrong. There were points in the fight where Canelo threw his shots and gave GGG a chance to fight back to catch his breath. During this time his guard was up, and he blocked shots to the head. GGG should've hooked to the body at this point, he could've easily dropped Canelo with a liver shot, sucks, because GGG has amazing body shots, but HE WON'T THROW, so frustrating.

No way, Triple G opened the 12th round by landing a big shot but then proceeded to back up the entire round; and clinched any time Canelo got in close. In fact, Canelo even called him out and asked him to go toe to toe. In the 12th round of a close fight, Triple G ran and clinched when he needed to close the show. That's two times in a row where Triple G cannot close the show. Canelo deserved this one, just like most pros believe....

I've changed my stance on this. I had GGG in the 1st fight of course. 2nd fight I wasnt mad Canelo got the nod. I had it a draw. Wasnt mad b/c Canelo looked better and was aggressive. But I change my stance. And I never really agree w/ Andre Ward. But yes agression wins fights, but not if you only won the first half of the fight. In all of boxing I've watched, the guy who's better and wins the second half of the fight, ESPECIALLY, the final round, that guys is usually the winner. Because of that, GGG was a tad more deserving. But a draw is more realistic and that couldn't really be argued.

GGG utilized the jab to counter the hand speed of Canelo. Canelo was faster with his hands, but did not have the power of GGG. GGG is older, so his facial tissue is not going to hold up as well as Canelos. GGG , without question won the 1st fight by 7 rounds and the the 2nd 2.

This was a great fight, and a close fight. But I thought Canelo clearly won a close fight. I gave him 7 or 8 rounds, and the commentators were very biased on HBO. Canelo was being hit with jabs, but he was countering with hard power punches and body punches that slowed down Golovkin and took away his power. That was effective aggression, accurate punches, and good ring generalship.

Nope... the argument has always been whom the judges favor short of a knockout will always win. This Nevada and not some international holding body like the WBO. I’m waiting for the day they show us an example where the winner gets KO’d from a UD. Something in the twelve round allows the fighter to be saved by the bell but the ref with a minute left takes all minute long to start the count regardless if there was a stipulation that the fighter cannot be saved by the bell especially in the last round. Bell ... smells ... can’t go against the Judges’ decision especially if we were gambling about it.

I watch a fair amount of boxing but really having trouble understanding how the scorecards came out the way they did... Max and some of the other analysts talk about “power” punches and “damaging” shots but other than ggg being a little gassed halfway from throwing a ton of punches and taking some body blows when was he ever damaged? When canelo started bleeding ggg pounced on it and rocked him. Canelo was wobbly 3 times and persevered yes but there was never a time I thought ggg was gonna hit the canvas either. Would have liked to hear them announce a draw cuz it was great to watch and seemed pretty even. *disclaimer* I’m not a canelo hater or ggg dickrider but I don’t think canelo did enough to take the title away without scoring a knockdown. Would love to see them battle again next summer or sooner

Watch it, he evades all but like 2 then begins to come forward & he absolutely not on wobbly legs as he continues to walk ggg down! Damage the cut on Canelo's left eye was the only real damage to his face, but ggg face is busted up in all sorts of places including a cut to his right eye which bled alot. He may not have looked like he was going down, but you could see the body shots were hurting him. Neither man was wobbled . I bet you won't even rewatch the part I mentioned

Ggg won the 1st fight easy! The 2nd fight I had ggg by 2 rounds maybe 1. It was a hell of of a fight and close. If you scored it a draw I can understand. But if you are a rational boxing fan there is no way you can watch that fight and say canelo won by 2 rounds. And let’s not forget, all of this is going on while canelo was clearly juiced up for both fights. (Look at canelos size in the 1st fight, and check his endurance in the 2nd) failed drug tests!. Triple G won this fight because he landed 32 more punches on Canelo and I don’t think that the Golovkin’s jab count like a powerless punch. Why I hate listening to boxing breakdowns...people have no logic or no appreciation for the science/rules of engagement...Canelo was the better boxer in every way...the first fight he was making GGG miss and took him to deep water...he did the same this fight, but did a better job of not backing up and landing the more important punches....GGG had great moments 10-15 second spurts here or there that won him rounds that he didn't dominate...we saw Canelo stepping through punches and getting his end... His connection percentage dropped from the first fight because he too was reaching and taking more risk. It was a good fight, but people ruin the effort by starting the bullshit theory...When Danny Garcia was getting his gift decision against Lamont Peterson no one was saying this same shit...because Lamont was disposable...

majority of those power punches come from first half for canelo giving him such a high number over gggs but ggg slowed the faster man down middle of the fight when he had him hurt on the ropes and through accumulation of power shots and increasing defense should have been given the second half not to mention popping canelo with that jab clearly troubling him constantly from beginning to end fight ggg

IMO I can say whatever I want out side the ring, I can say let’s fight “Mexican style” and on fight night I come out boxing and box my opponent out for 12 rnds instead brawling like I said I would do and accumulate points all night long, you can’t be mad at that!! GGG didn't fight "Mexican" style, but he never backed himself onto the ropes. He was fighting Canelo off angles. He didn't run. They were constantly within punching range, no one backed off, Canelo just was blatantly in-your-face while GGG was in range but never in one place. I feel like 3G beat Canelo at his own game(slick mid-range boxing, not brawling) and Canelo beat 3G at his own game( so called Mexican style, which was just a gimmick by 3G to gain fans in America). The decision wasn't really a robbery, but I feel that the challenger must comprehensively beat the champion,ie, a solid KO/TKO or a wide UD. Such close calls should not transfer the championship. But hey, Canelo won the "story of the fight" according to Max, whatever the fuck that means.

The scorecards should not be biased regardless of the fighters position. As a judge all you should see are punches that are thrown, land and are effective not to recognize champions.

This fight was almost like a flipped image of the first fight. GGG brings the fight first time around, Canelo comes on late. It's a draw. Then Canelo brings the fight the second time, GGG comes on late wins the last three-four rounds(lands the best power shots of the fight)... decision goes to Canelo. Max is correct in his assessment.. Triple G definitely won the first fight and it was easily a draw in the second fight but all that aside I think today, with Conelo's continued improvement, I would be inclined to favor him with maybe even a stoppage.. Would be a good fight to see no doubt....

Floyd is the anomaly. He always stayed in shape and barely took any punishment in his career. Look at Roy Jones Jr. He was practically untouchable until he got KO'd and from that day on he was a shell of his former self, getting knocked out regularly. GGG won the fight. He was acting smart. His shots were powerful. The only credit to Canelo, that he was trying to stay in the center of the ring, but it is not enough to win the fight. GGG was great for his age. Almost 5 years Canelo was avoiding GGG, waiting when GGG gets older. Nevertheless, GGG made a lot more jabs, punches overall. I think, GGG was robbed the victory, despite very close fight, where both fighters showed great characters and determination to win. I saw the fight several times. The problem is that we expect GGG to win only be KO. So, my conclusion, is GGG was the winner. Canelo was barely moving especially the last 3 rounds, despite he was fast at the beginning rounds. GGG is some way reminds me Muhamed Ali. The more judges were biased to GGG the more we like him. He is a real champion.

I've watched the fight several times now and have scored it many times. Believe it or not, Teddy Atlas' 117-112 GGG is more realistic than you think. In terms of pure boxing, and that's what this was: a boxing match, GGG was not just better he was dominant. But Canelo worked very, very hard, and he did move forward a lot, but it wasn't because he needed to. It really meant nothing. He never cut GGG off, and he never unloaded on him against the ropes. Most of the exchanges were controlled by GGG. GGG completely dictated the timing of the engagements. GGG landed much cleaner punches, utilized the jab beautifully, and controlled the range. The only thing Canelo had going for him were his body shot counters. But there wasn't nearly enough for it to have done anything. The fact GGG completely took over at the end should have shown those judges that he indeed came in with the better strategy. Go ahead and try to tell me I'm wrong, but you better have an actual argument. I literally know this fight backwards and forwards and can tell you what happened every round.

I think GGG was more worried about Canelos big shots then canelo was. As for the 12th was canelo was winning for most of the round, he was attacking but GGG had his moments. That's was the issue for most of the second half. Canelo gave GGG what he asked for, stand and fight but GGG didn't want it! I think that cost GGG the fight. Even his coach was fustrated and surprised with GGG tactics.

He was moving around being pushed back. GGG was panting breathing heavy and protecting his body from the 2nd round to 5th. I was really impressed with canelo quality and heart. Even GGG coach was getting frustrated with him as he kept moving back and pushed back, that was a shocker. I was expecting GGG to push forward and canelo avoiding head on.

Riz I was shocked at that too. It seems GGG was taken by surprise at Canelo’s willingness to go toe to toe. Personally, I still feel as though GGG did enough to win, by a slim margin. But, a little more than halfway through, I knew that it wasn’t looking too good for GGG, close fight always goes to the cash cow. Something like how tie base goes to the runner in baseball. I wasn’t disappointed in the fight overall. GGG is definitely starting to look his age, even against that other guy back in May he seemed slower and less explosive. I don’t know why Stephen A is opposed to a 3rd match, even if you give Canelo this one, that basically makes the series 1-1, and I think GGG won the first one more convincingly then the decision they gave Canelo here.
