🤦🏾‍♂️ Gilbert game literally changed the generation of shoot first guards at the point position. Giannis needs to learn how to shoot better and score without the ball better. So why would he learn from Hakeem when that won’t help the issue. There’s times when Giannis is on the court with both Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis so learning a better post game would literally make no sense for him.

Man Hakeem got picked over Mj and no one bats a eye. That alone kills everything Gilbert did in his career! Not to mention the fact that Hakeem beat Kareem, and shaq, along with David Robinson, and Ewing with no allstar teammate. The man was one of the first centers with the handles to go coast to coast like Gianni’s except for he could pull up for 20 footers which is what Gianni’s has to learn. The man is top 20 in 5 major stat categories as a center. That’s insane, right along with being the only player with more than one quadruple double. What is Gilbert talking about. Ain’t no better player that he could from as a center. Gilbert was not even 1/1000th the player Hakeem was. IMO opinion Hakeem is no.7 alltime due to what he accomplished despite a lack of help for the vast part of his career. At any rate he is no lower than top 12-13. Meanwhile is Gilbert arenas top 100? I think this just sums up Gilbert's career and attitude. All the greats who wanted to be better have gone to the dream since he retired. Gilbert got paid once after a few good seasons with the wizards and basically quit after that, and this is how he continues to carry himself. He also thinks Giannis isnt worthy of his praise because of his unorthodox play. Sorry Gil, Giannis might not be Rucker Park material but he's MVP and Champion material, and those guys continue to improve their games after their first payday and championship. Doubt it. Let’s address defense first that has never been an issue for him around the paint and there’s no principles anyone can share that he doesn’t already know however he is a ok defender at best on the perimeter as he still bites on the simplest of moves at this point in his career and if he’s switched onto an explosive or crafty guard it’s chicken for that guard. 90% of defense comes down to effort and intangibles without these 2 iq only goes so far as an on ball. Offensively say he learns and utilizes some of Hakeem’s post work arsenal he still can’t shoot to maximize what he’s learned. Defensively when teams stop him in the open court they do a fairly good job(depending on personnel) on stopping his isolation buckets in the half court sets(exception of 2nd chances, off ball actions, pnr which doesn’t really implement what it is Hakeem is offering. As for shooting at this point in his career and with how bad his mechanics are there’s a minimal amount of improvement he’d obtain even if he solely prioritized that in his off season. So when it comes to short corner, mid or high post his repertoire is hindered by him not being a good shooter, this would be what the defender would want to force him into opposed to him being within 5-8 feet of the bucket and bully his way to the him or just do a hook or drop step

That’s not facts whatsoever, they have two different skill sets for different eras. You’re using someone name to judge on how their game would reflect in training. Gilbert was literally dame Lillard/ Steph curry before those two. Gilbert would literally help players shoot, ball handle, shoot off dribble, make contested layups and move without the ball on the perimeter. Hakeem can’t teach that, Hakeem can teach footwork and defensive positioning around the post but that’s it. Hakeem can’t teach pick n pop, screen down, high post point defense no he can’t. He can judge it based off his eyes but he can’t personally say he’s an expert at it when his era didn’t use these tactics.

@@LegioIII. You’re using Kobe and Lebron who both had different team compared to what Giannis has and plays differently due to height and build. Kobe had to learn the post game because he came into the league as a defender with great athleticism. The post game gave him an edge on his opponent to score from an impossible to defend angle. Kobe also wanted to improve every aspect that Jordan was good at so that also gave him the edge to learn the post and learn from Hakeem. Lebron learn from Hakeem because quite jones Lebron forgot how he used to score his first two years in the league. The post game was an option for Lebron to get an easier basket against teams who would intentionally foul him from driving the ball. However everyone with a brain knows that Lebron biggest gain offensively was his confidence and his work ethic to learn how to shoot the ball. This open up his passing ability because it made defenders have to guard up on him. Giannis don’t need to nor would improve with a post game because the problem with Giannis game is his inability to shoot the ball and score without the basketball.

If Dream was in the game rn with the same exact game, his team and the opposing team would have to completely change game plans. The offense would run thru his threat on the block and the defense couldn’t just leave their big man alone on the block with him so they would have to adjust as well. There is no one in the game rn with that level of post dominance.

He can shoot 3’s as well we all know at that era the toughest roughest era ever in the NBA you would get benched if you shot a 3 so you rarely ever saw him take one. They renamed DPOTY to none other than Olajuwon award. He is all-time leader in blocks and people say that Jordan wasn’t there for that 2nd championship run by Houston but it’s not a true , he was there and avg more ppg that playoffs than his 3 peat days , they just had no answer for Shaquille, Penny and Co. & the bulls just got beat . LeBron, as he’s being getting older goes into the post more now than ever.
