Stephen A Smith has a cycle: 1) Talk about Lebron creating narratives and excuses 2) Creates the narrative (how ironic) Lebron is finally gonna lose since he forced kyrie to leave and Cavs are trash, Philly best in the east apparently 3) End up being wrong as usual, Cavs defy HIS ODDS 4) Quickly uses the old narrative the east is trash, after saying Lebron wouldn't make it out of that trash east 2 weeks ago lool 5) Gets triggered when he gets called out about it, claims he never doubted Lebron and everyone else is "ridiculous" because Lebron is OVER APPRECIATED... repeat next year...

Dc fc when he says the East is trash he’s talking about the overall depth of it. It’s not meant to be a criticism of Lebron it’s just stating the obvious. The Nuggets could have a legitimate chance of winning the East.

marcus reynolds I agree ! I think ‘the decision’ and his personality as well as calling himself the ‘king’ and even the unknown behind the scenes relationships causing players to leave (Irving) is partly responsible. Because of those factors Lebron is viewed a little as a ‘villain’. I certainly remember the ‘lying king’ theme when he left Cleveland 🦁

I never anticipated the lack of respect and the ungratefulness Kobe Bryant would get after retiring. Some say it's due to the fact that he wasn't the kindest with the media... but damn, they're just disrespecting the man every single day on national TV.... if you were born today you'd think Kobe hasn't done anything in the NBA ... but the funny thing is... only the media and the people born after 2000 don't appreciate Kobe.... Ask any former player who played against kobe, or any current player who played with or against Kobe... ''They speak so highly of him! Ask ANY COACH CURRENT OR PAST who they'd pick between kobe and lebron... they say Kobe... there are PLENTY of videos on youtube... but Why are they discrediting Kobe? I need answers. and don't get me wrong Lebron is GREAT.... but did yall forget about KOBE BRYANT ????!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!

Stephen A had me rolling with this one. And that graphic they came up with... I was in tears. What Stephen A. is missing is that Lebron fans want him to say 'Lebron is the G.O.A.T.' If you don't say that then they feel you are under-appreciating him. That's the only thing you haven't said about him. And their feelings are hurt about it.

The fan community may under appreciate LeBron (that's debatable), but definitely not the media! The media puts LeBron on repeat, showering him with praise. Yes, LeBron gets criticized by the media as well, but the LeBron apologists FAR outweigh the haters. LeBron fans just like to magnify everything negatively said about LeBron, they don't even notice how much this guy get worshipped on the daily. I completely sympathize with SAS because you really can't blame him for getting sick of LeBron. The big heads over at ESPN can't come up with any fresh topics, so SAS is forced to talk about this man every SINGLE day. Then you got Kobe, who is probably on the opposite spectrum. He's underappreciated by the media (maybe too much), but the fan community loves him (maybe too much). This question is just excruciating... especially how Max just regurgitates all of his accomplishments for the umpteenth time without even refuting SAS's point.

just going to copy my comment, .his Greatest was too much for them...but they are Raptors. his greatest is too much...but it is the "Weak East" (even though everyone picked the raptors/76rd to win it) Lebron is clutch shot was good but you know..if he missed it would have gone to OT (undisputed). when you speak about someone than give a backhanded remark...its called downplaying lets all remember too, Lebron is not clutch...i dont want him to take the last shot, he is weak minded, and so on. when you make up lies that pretty much goes ageist history...you are doing just that in fact. of course the "NOT CLUTCH" has now been killed last week. just because you say he is great it does not mean your backhanded remark that they seem to also do when he does something great is not downplaying what happen.

He is underappreciated. The reason why is because as someone who is too young to have witnessed Michael Jordan in all his glory I am gutted. I would have loved to witness his career play out. So I personally really appreciate that I have been able to see Lebrons career through from the beginning, which has been amazing. I don't think people understand this, and he has so many haters. I don't support the cavs and I hope my Celtics knock him out next round, but just sit back and enjoy the amazing talent of Lebron James because we are lucky to be seeing a top 3 player of all time doing some of the greatest things ever seen on a court

I think bron is underappreciated because people discredit him for losing in the finals more times than he won. In the sense of how much people and media talk about him. Over appreciated. In terms of his greatness and how a lot of people scrutinize the tiniest thing against him. Under appreciated. Even me, as a LeBron fan, I get annoyed with how much time on air 90% of talk shows talk about LeBron. Obviously its the playoffs now so it's ok to talk about him, but why do we still have these exact same convos during the off season? I think he is over appreciated in the media because they will throw his name in and he that'll generate clicks and revenue. I say he is under appreciated in terms of his greatness because he can average a 30 point triple double in the finals, and still get slandered for losing in the finals to the far better team (you can say he doesn't but then I'll say why does his finals record come up in every argument when in only 1 finals he's played bad in.) He lead his team in every statistical category in 2016 and some people wanted to say Kyrie saved his legacy for hitting the shot (Incredible shot by Kyrie, but he didn't save LeBron's legacy). It seems like every great performance he has is taken away by "Oh he's in the east so its easy" "Oh he's supposed to do that, he's LeBron James." I think it's the media's over appreciation for LeBron that leads people to want to under appreciate him. Take game 2 vs the Raptors. The media went nuts with that game, which is normal especially when LeBron is hitting shots like that, but I think with them going so crazy about it, it makes people want to down play it by saying it was against the Raptors who are afraid of him so whats the big deal.

No athlete in the history of american sports have been given more press and more tv discussion than Lebron James. It's 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, he gets all the attention by the main sports media. Espn has become Lespn because all they do is talk about lebron james. In how many topics did first take alone talk about lebron james today, only today. I dont have to know to assume it's a lot. Look here a topic about how he is not appriciated hehehe. This is provably their ten topic about him before getting to this one. It is laughable. The problem is that fans dont like lebron and these people want to force people to love lebron, that's their problem but it aint gonna happen.

He's under-appreciated because nobody ever gives him credit for making 7 straight finals. Always gotta be "it's a cakewalk" no matter who he faces. This year, people had pacers beating them, then Toronto, and now, of course, "it's a cakewalk" what a surprise.

The issue I have is how many LeBron fans and apologists use the fact that he has made it to seven straight finals to overshadow and mitigate his record in NBA Finals. As far as I am concerned, your record in the finals takes precedence over the number of times you make it to the finals. I believe that "Finals appearances in a row" became a stat only to minimize LeBron's poor Finals record. It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that ring. The goal has always been to win a championship. So what if you make it there a certain amount of times in a row? Who cares? Get the W

Mikey Moore the thing is that most of his fans are liking him less and less because he flip flops and he is aware of that and that's why he does this fake half ass lebron praise. For example everybody said that Toronto was going to beat lebron and sixers were going to come out of the east but soon as lebron crushes everyone, the east is weak lmao the east is weaker than the west but not by much. Next year Celtics, sixers, cavs(if lebron remains) are power houses while in the west you have rockets, gsw and spurs(if khawi remains).

He is under-appreciated...only because we chose to. To make the league fair. Similar to Jordan, Lebron could and should win MVP every year but we under-appreciate his greatness because we understand his greatness. We have to shadow him year and year out just to let others have their light. Mind you Steph crowing himself as the greatest shooter of all time fully deserves the MVP with no question but if thats what it took to knock Lebron out, having to play historically seasons, it has to make you think of how much he really means to this game. We are lucky to be apart and witness, and I chose to under-appreciate, because this is HIS game.

Ok let's keep it real LeBron is kinda underappreciated think bout everythin he does is instantly compared to Jordan. Like yes people do appreciate him but there's bigger audience who just don't appreciate the man. Example . He beat the Warriors down 3-1 2016 finals came back a won the whole thing, and u know what people said "Umm Jordan nvr had a game 7 on the finals.." so yes I have to agree he is underappreciated. Because the matter of the fact is as long as people continue comparing day in and night out preformance this man won't be quite appreciate it. That's that. And I personally think he is the goat and I appreciate this man just as Jordan.

Yeremy Wilson People know that its great that he led that team back. But overtime it becomes just 'Lebron' beat a 73-9 team without mention of how kyrie was just as much help. There were people that automatically said Jordan never went to game 7 but there was many who automatically started claiming he was GOAT after having just 3 championships.

Yeremy Wilson But beating the warriors down 3-1 is a team accomplishment as well. You win championships as a team but a single nba player has more of an impact in basketball than any one player in almost any other team sport. That's why championships are a major factor.

These guys are actually saying the same thing. I think the point Max is elucidating is that because James performs well all the time, we seem to naturally expect him to do so all the time, to the point that we do not see his outstanding performance as a big deal. Smith on the other hands is dwelling on the aspect of public admiration of James on all fronts; on the basket courts, his social and personal life, his business and endorsement, and all other areas of his life is being talked about. Max argument is that just because we talk about it does not mean appreciation. His emphasis is on taking James achievements for granted because we just constantly seeing it being done.

You might have missed the fact that MJ and Kobe were both coached by a great man named Phil Jackson. They both got their rings while playing under a seasoned and great coach, PHIL Jackson. Lebron got 2 rings in a span of three years while playing in Miami under coach Spoelstra with only 3 years coaching experience and he got 1 ring in Cleveland in his 2 years playing under a new coach Ty Lue. What if Lebron plays under coach Phil Jackson or the likes of a genius, Brad Stevens ?

I respectfully disagree with this statement. I don't believe that LeBron will work well in the GSW system. For starters, LeBron plays selective defensive. He is 58th in defensive rating for these playoffs (Draymond, Curry, Thompson, KD, and Iggy are 1st, 2nd, 7th, and 9th respectively in this category). He was 309th in defensive rating in the regular season. To be successful with GSW, you must play defense, be able to switch, and protect the rim which LeBron has not exuded to an elite degree this season & playoffs. Secondly, LeBron has not demonstrated an ability to move off- the ball. His offense can be very stagnate (see NBA Finals 2017). He either plays ISO (which is antithetical to GSW ball) or passes the ball and stands around the perimeter which will not work in Golden State. Third, while LeBron has significantly improved his 3pt game and is arguably the best passer in the game, his three pt shooting inconsistencies & FT troubles & ball dominance can impede the Warriors. This is not to presume that LeBron cannot further develop his off-the-ball movement, 3pt shooting, and free-throwing ability but it would be a rough adjustment. KD works with GSW because of his phenomenal ability to play off-the-ball, play defense, guard the rim, shoot the 3, handle the ball, selflessly pass the ball, cuts to the basket, etc. As for KD on the Cavs, it is hard to say because CLE is organized around LeBron whereas GSW is organized around a system

Besides floyd mayweather, I have never seen an athlete that receives so much hate and criticism from “the people” as lebron james. Let's be accurate: Kareem was the best in the league from the moment he came into the league up to his 13th season. So he had 13 seasons in which he was regarded as the best player. LeBron was not regarded as the best player when he entered the league, it took him a while to wrest that from Kobe - who'm most GM's and players still had as the best even up until as late as 2011. So LeBron has about 7-8 seasons which is a great feat but Kareem was something else altogether.

This is the same discussion we had with Tom Brady feeling underappreciated. The answer is no. Lebron is the only player where people legitimately say he's better than Jordan. They never did that with Kobe or any other great player. People will argue to the death of them on why Lebron is the best player to touch a basketball. The Cavs do whatever he wants them to do. players change their play style to complement his style. LeBron is nowhere near underappreciated.
