1978 ... then of course Michael McDonald's unforgettable voice has to be on backing vocals. I think it was a federal mandate at the time. Hearing his voice for the first time is the concert memory of my life. My wife and I were standing in line outside the sports arena at the U. of Toledo on Sunday April 21, 1974, waiting to see Steely Dan for the first time. It was unusually warm that day so all the arena windows were open as we heard the band inside begin their soundcheck by playing the title track to their latest album "Pretzel Logic." Donald Fagen's voice was clearly recognizable, but when they got to the song's bridge "I stepped up on the platform / The man gave me the news" we heard a voice we knew wasn't Fagen's. Two hours later when they played that song again to a live audience we could put Michael McDonald's face with that incredible voice we had heard earlier through the open windows. He would become the lead backing vocalist on Steely Dan's 1975 album "Katy Lied," before joining The Doobie Brothers later that year when Tom Johnston's stomach ulcer prevented him from touring. The next time we saw Michael was April 1977 when The Doobies played at Bowling Green State U., near the end of their "Takin' It To the Streets" tour. Only the best of the best for Stephen Bishop!

5 1/2 years ago I bought a Victrola (im 39 now, i was 33 back then) on a trip to NYC. And I remembered listening to your music when I was a child on the radio. Im from Argentina. And I bought my victrola and your Careless Vinyl Album as my first one. I wore it out in these 5 years so badly I had to buy another one. And of course I bought Bish but later on. This song just popped in my head today and I just wanted to thank you for your music. Thank You!!! Muchas gracias, tu música me llega a lo profundo!!!
