Sung live on Top of the Pops 1978. Not everybody could sing live for reasons of talent but those who could back then were simply amazing.

Just something so heart warming hearing and watching you play this beautiful song, even struggling to remember some of the chords brought me to tears. I felt like I was there. Just who you are as a person who can feel so deep and grab the right words that can express those thoughts and feelings. No big production, not some famous guy, just someone who had me over for coffee and wanted to share a song he wrote who is able to be authentically himself. That’s how I saw this video. Thanks for sharing Stephen! You still touch a lot of people’s hearts!

Shortened version. Written by Stephen Bishop. I like 👍 this version. I like to hear this as a duet with a woman 👩 of the choice from Stephen Bishop. Beautiful song 🎵

In the video, Stephen Bishop said they used the "I gave my love a cherry" song because they did not want to pay any royalties. The people in charge of "Perry Mason" had the same idea. They had Paul Carr (in the role of Con Bolton) singing that same song in "The Case of the Tandem Target" which first aired on May 14 1964. It seems appropriate because the time period of "Animal House" was suppose to be in the early 1960's.

I feel your every breath, I hear the words you say And I keep turning back, to hear the music play I make no promises, those promises can break you How can you call me home, wanting me like yesterday Where do we build a house, how do the roses grow? Are you and I in love, how do we really know? If love is on our side, you'll know when I'm trouble That's when my heart decides, to go wherever you will go The heart is so willing to follow The heart shows the way out of the night The heart runs in search of tomorrow When love takes the hand that guides the light When shadows fall, and there's no one there to hear I'll listen How do we fix the moon, how do we change the sky? How can I make you laugh, the way I make you cry? I make no promises, those promises can break you But love's no accident, and time is on our side The heart is so willing to follow The heart shows the way out of the night The heart runs in search of tomorrow When love takes the hand that guides the ligh

this is really cool! Have you ever played around with the chords of Somewhere in Between? It's definitely the epitome of jazz fusion with all of the diminished 7th chords and syncopation. And that really satisfying rapid Latin bongo beat.. 🤤 mmmm... as you can tell, it's kind of a favorite of mine lol

Careless is one of the albums that helped me survive the disco era. While I always thought "Madge" was a pretty song back in the day, the 20-something "me" couldn't really appreciate it fully. Now I'm nearly 70, and I totally get it.
