Johnny Sexton seems like the lad to spend hours practicing his Football frees to then meet back up with Cluxton to beat him

What I found interesting is Sexton really wants to get into the mechanics of the kick. "Toe up or down", "Rugby you kick the meat of the ball" etc. Cluxton couldn't really articulate the mechanics too him. Maybe I am wronging Cluxton but it seems to me it reflects a difference in the sports. Football seems a bit more instinctual but a profession like Sexton really wanted to know the process and the mechanics of the kick. I would be interested to know how much detail inter county free takers go in to regarding the mechanics.

I thought the Cluxton explained the mechanics perfectly and Sexton asked interesting questions. Great video.

Stephen Down part of the difference is that place kickers in rugby are a much more specialised thing and so need to work on mechanics, technique etc since it's less of a natural part of the game, whereas every player in football/soccer should be relatively competent with how they strike a ball without being overly technical in their approach(not to say that quality free takers don't work hard on strike mechanics etc)

It’s a whole lot different now in gaa, free kicks have a lot more detail then you think.
