Stephen Foster died in his mid thirties with 36 cents to his name but his songs are still being sung nearly 200 years later.

Stephen Foster was a 'Scotch/Irish' renowned for their musicality and sentimental ballads. I was brought up in the same region of the English/Scottish/Ulster borderland, and as a kid in the 1950s, was made to stand up and sing his songs in front of family and friends. I hadn't much of a voice but, Foster's memorable lyrics sang more with gusto than tune, usually got me a clap. Especially when I got off the chair !

I heard this song on the show Little House on the Prairie season six episode 22 called Sweet 16 and they played it at a dance with Laura and Almanzo dancing. I’ve always wondered what the song was and tonight I decided to Google it, and I found the name of it. I have never heard it sung before and I didn’t know the words to the song before so listening to you sing it is just so perfect. Your voice is so nice to listen to and I’m really grateful that you shared this with us so that we can enjoy the beautifulmusic that was written by Steven many years ago.

Hello Mr. Roush. Great rendition of another one of Stephen Foster's timeless classics. I would like to suggest 'Comrades, Fill no Glass for Me', also by Stephen Foster. I believe it was the only temperance song Stephen Foster ever wrote. Its somber melody and subject matter make it one of Mr. Foster's more unique songs in his catalogue in my opinion.

One of my favourite songs and yours is a very good version. This was the first song I learned to play on piano when I was 8 and I was just playing this earlier today on my saxophone.

Interestingly I never cared much for this song, not until I heard this rendering. Beautiful, most likely much closer to Foster's original intent. Than you for this revelation!

Tom, there's a big number of changes coming to youtube, namely one that basically deletes your channel if It's not commercially viable. A lot of people might leave youtube, so you might want to check out vimeo.Anyway, I love your music!
