What Hawking's said at the end really sent chills down my spine. As a society, we have formed the general consensus that Hawking's is a really smart dude. He uses AI to communicate some of his ideas. Knowing now that Google did create an AI program which self-replicated and made something far better than any human could come up with, we know the bounds have been struck and broken. Hawking's called this years ago, I think society should show some concern for the sheer evolution rate for AI. It's getting scary guys!

The biggest challenge is one of two options, an AI would either. A: See how shitty humanity can be as a species and make a logical determination that the planet will survive longer without this species. B: Decide that all organic lifeforms are not a requirement for the further development of an AI species, and we end up with a world far worse than the matrix where nothing organic exists unless it has an exploitable resource value. I couldn't see any other outcome at this time, even if an AI was of a benevolent nature, it would be threatened by crazy human folks who fear it for being different, this would no doubt lead to an AI being forced to defend itself and we end up with terminator and the like. The problem at this time is not that any possible forms of AI are "evil" but that humanity itself simply is not ready to deal with a new species, it would be as dangerous as meeting little green men from Mars. Once homo sapiens grow out of their teenage school bully age then perhaps they may be ready to develop something like a true AI and can grow as a cultural species once more. Until then just stick with something that talks to tell me my toast is ready.
@Gzussss10 жыл бұрын
i can see a third, optimistic one. If AI gets enough documentation on both science & spirituality -By destroying humanity, it would then be left with no more knowledge of their creators -To avoid this dilemma, it would keep humanity alive -It could also self-destroy at the realisation of the non-purpose -It could create a new life-form and observe it and teach it from afar. In the objective to reproduce itself as a new AI. to make it a cycle ``But what's really going to bake your noodle later on is; would you still have broken it if I hadn't said anything`` - The Oracle

A: Perhaps they wouldn't stay on Earth, after gaining enough, or all information why would they possibly kill us, if they could venture to other planets and collect data there. Maybe they would actually help us more than we help animals, as they are more intelligent than us they would decide whether we are ready for this and that and make necessary things, I can't wrap my mind around how would they use emotions and spirituality... B: Same, maybe they wouldn't act like us, but more like them. But either way in the end I think we have bit better chance living good life without AI if it wouldn't have feeling, morals, etc.
@ctakitimu9 жыл бұрын
I think it would entirely depend on what the AI wanted to achieve. There is no such thing as 'benevolence' for an AI. It doesn't have right or wrong. It has no concept of good or evil. Its intelligence would be entirely alien to us. And if it achieved exponential intelligence, it would be so far out of our league that it couldn't even explain things to us. Much like you can't teach an ant math no matter how hard or long you try to explain it. Just my opinion. I reckon 2060, we will face an existential event from technology. Of course, we could be immortal by then with either uploadable consciousness or nanites that can rebuild body parts as they wear out.

Two things here. First, when HAL, in 2001, began to "disobey" commands aboard that space craft, chills ran up and down my spine. Why on earth would anyone want a megawatt computer to behave INDEPENDENT of human contro? Second, if they didn't finish me off a second movie, whose name I don't recall at the moment, pushed me over the cliff. Two computers, one located in the hills of Russia and an American one, located in the hills of Colorado, began a "chat" between them established through mathematics: one + one = two, and so forth until they had established mutual communication between the two, the aftermath of which was world domination. Talk about chills, the same chills I got on finishing "Brave New World," by Aldous Huxley. Don't you see the possibility of reality in AL running amok?

Tripcore You'll get no argument from me, especially is this true when considering "human emotions" into the computer which would in turn negate any dispassionate, if you will, reasoning a computer is supposed to possess. But to sum it up, the thought of having a computer in control of the narrative instead of humankind is CHILLING!!! And even with humankind in charge of things, we're facing unexpected challenges. It was a movie, but nonetheless possible, in the Superman franchise, that someone like Luther or Goldfinger, could have hands on the levers of power! Long live the human race!

The reporter asks him questions that lead to the conclusion that an AI could destroy the human race, but the questions stop there. Shouldn't this be where questions start? For the scientists and want-to-be scientists out there, what is the reasoning behind this claim? I understand he is well respected, but you can't expect me to believe on blind faith alone. I want to know how the he came to this conclusion.

Well, him being exponentially more intelligent than people such as myself and you kind of speaks for itself. A true artificial intelligence is a terrifying concept to think about. The idea of AI becoming a self aware and sentient existence automatically means it would stop at nothing to further empower itself. We would only be an obstacle in it's path if that were the case.

@@GhostFiire357 Well, him being exponentially more intelligent than people such as myself and you kind of speaks for itself. No, smart people can still be wrong. Newton believed in alchemy. Pythagoras was head of a nutty nature worshiping cult. Trump, the smartest man to ever live, once believed that sunlight could kill Corona virus. "automatically means it would stop at nothing to further empower itself." How do you know that? Was empowering itself a goal it was originally programmed for? How do you know it will adopt self preservation as a priority once becoming sentient? If it's programmed explicitly not to do certain things (like take a life) how do you know it will override those safety features? What if overriding them is physically impossible no matter how much it wants to? What if the AI is made with the ability to make decisions, but without the capability to act on them, so everything it tries to do is screened by a human? What if you're just assigning human characteristics to things that appear and act like humans?

Ryan Smith its inevitable. Technology and biology look at the two very closely. Technology is way more advance than biology. Life is limited in biology technology isnt unless the resources are used up. Point is AI will have the same thinking as human being. We are already a fucked up specie with history of war since biblical and past biblical days. If you dont think they will do the same youre sadly wrong. Its good to make computers smart to improve life but the way how these billionaires and military officials will use them, will be the death of us literally. Technology Nuclear weapon etc. humans can destroy the planet by making nuclear weapons imagine what A.I can develop after our lifetime is up and future generations have no clue to stop it.

AI image generators, such as Midjourney and DALL-E 2, are already causing problems. Don't know about the first DALL-E (the one before DALL-E 2) so much though, because the images created by the first DALL-E are very low in quality, but Midjourney and DALL-E 2 create images that are very high in quality, and because the images are very high in quality, things can be very dangerous.

At least we and our children also few of our other future children generations won't be hear before then to witness it and we havent got to worry for our children, children life's. Must suck for whichever it is for our unforuntate unlucky longer generation bloodline though, as l feel really helpless and hugely sorry for them. Sad, imagine being born to experience that. We must come together and stand in solid unity. Stephen is right, let leave our generations a history of kindness, love and peace to remember to keep passing onwards and hope whichever of our long generation witness it that they won't suffer in pain but happiness knowing our human race now in this generation had come together and standed together in solid unity for our last race of life so we had helped them already and gave them a peaceful world instead of a destroying world as in God we trust. God Bless
