I’m going through a really bad reading slump at the moment and I’ve been having a hard time focusing on my reads (The Gunslinger atm), and this review helped me so much! You do a great job at simplifying it chapter by chapter. I keep coming back after every chapter listening to your breakdown for that section. It’s all making so much sense. You’re dope. This was dope. Thank you.

I just finished The Gungslinger, I have not read it in 12 years. Like when I first read it I still find it to so romantically macabre, and dreamlike and hypnotizing where after reading it yes, I too wanna go out and seek a Tower for myself, in fact I have been since I first read it. But now I also find it kinda sad, it seems the older I get the more heartbroken I become about how so easily, so unhesitatingly Roland sacrifices Jake like nothing because I think we are a society that does exactly the same. We are a society that does not care at all about our children our Jakes, we say we do but we don't, only our Towers whatever that may be. And maybe that's why we're doomed to keep repeating the same story over and over again.....maybe Roland got exactly what he deserved in the end so shall we all. How's that for romantically macabre?

Would love to hear more of your thoughts on the series rather than just recapping it. Please start making videos again. Would love to hear your opinion a year later (most likely reading it another time). Do a book-by-book review and then a video about the series as a whole. Discuss what's changed as you've read it multiple times. Thanks!

My favorite reading of all time is the Dark Tower series. By far. Whenever stuff gets crazy in the real world, Rolland's world and the Ka-tet's quest provide a comfortable haven. And God bless George Guidall and Frank Muller who narrated the audiobooks to which I listened for scores of hours. Both were good, but Frank sounds so fine to the ear for me. I've bought all the books and all the audiobooks while waiting for a Dark Tower 8.

By the time you read this, you may be already finished. KZbin's delayed algorithm brought me here. Please forgive the greatness of my lateness (as well as my "former teacher" willingness to offer information that no one asked me for.) (This comment may seem long, but just keep in mind this is the edited down version!) It seems that you are on a similar path as I am with regard to reading Stephen King's Dark Tower and Dark Tower-related books. The man created the equivalent of a cinematic universe, beating Marvel by several decades. Looking back, I wish I had read these back when they were first published instead of "binge-reading" like I am now. Good news is: you don't have to worry about 'Salem's Lot being spoiled until number five: Wolves of the Calla. Long story short, I discovered a list that you can use. I do this because I wish someone had told me what I was missing when these stories were brand-new. They contain characters, locations, or concepts directly related to the Dark Tower books. I will add the Dark Tower books to show which titles were published and when along the Stephen King Timeline. 'Salem's Lot (1975) The Stand (1978) The Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger (1982) REVISED 2003 The Talisman (with Peter Straub, 1984) The Eyes of the Dragon (1984) The Mist (short story in Skeleton Crew, 1985) It (1986) The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three (1987) The Stand, Complete & Uncut (1990) The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands (1991) Insomnia (1994) Rose Madder (1995) Desperation (1996) The Regulators (1996, as Richard Bachman) The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass (1997) Bag of Bones (1998) Hearts in Atlantis (four novellas, 1999) Black House (with Peter Straub, 2001) From a Buick 8 (2002) Everything's Eventual (short story in Everything's Eventual, 2002) The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla (2003) The Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah (2004) The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower (2004) The Dark Tower 4.5: The Wind Through the Keyhole (2012) Some have said his book 11/22/63 (published in 2011) could also go on this list, but I'm not sure. I haven't read it yet, and I still have eight of these to go before I'm done. There is also a short story called UR which mentions the Dark Tower. I believe it's in the short story collection The Bazaar of Bad Dreams (2015) Okay. Whew! That's it. Feel free to pass it on. Or keep it to yourself. Enjoy the quest for the Dark Tower either way.

@Agrimorfee7 жыл бұрын
Go in with low expectations and it is an enjoyable fantasy adventure. There is much that reflects or expands upon what has already been written. Their intention is for this film is as a reset/reimagining of the novels, so for all intents, this movie will not spoil your enjoyment of the books. Stick to the books and hope that there will be a better film and/or tv show down the road

You really should get your facts straight before you proceed with attempting to make an accurate review. Stephen King was not 19 when he wrote these stories. He was 23 when he started the first story, The Gunslinger, and didn't finish it until he was 30. These 5 connected stories (not 4) were all published in the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. Here are the dates and years they appeared: "The Gunslinger" (October 1978) "The Way Station" (April 1980) "The Oracle and the Mountains" (February 1981) "The Slow Mutants" (July 1981) "The Gunslinger and the Dark Man" (November 1981) Also, it's a good idea to look at the camera on your computer instead of at yourself so the viewer feels that you're looking at them and not to the right of them.
@FrostyKnives9 жыл бұрын
Well thanks for playing.
