What a talented man. It's 2019 just seen movie Doctor sleep it's pretty accurate with book and it's one of best horror movies for sure. Rose the hat is such a great actress and character

Yeah that movie was pretty good, better than the book I dare to say. Mike Flanagan is such a talented director, one of the best of the genre along with Ari Aster.

Juan Martinez i agree. I loved the book but I thought the movie was better. I really like the changes they made for the film.

It was a hard task, making a sequel to Kubrick’s shining while also appropriately adapting the book of Doctor Sleep, but Mike Flanagan really threaded the needle and accomplished the best of both worlds. Great cast, great direction, great cinematography, great editing, and so much of it done exclusively by Flanagan himself. He really is one of the best (if not the best in my opinion) in the horror film and television business right now. He may not be for everyone but he’s the genuine article no matter how you slice it. I hope he gets to adapt more Stephen King because Stephen King and Mike Flanagan go together like peanut butter and chocolate. Gerald’s Game was spot on, a book that never should’ve worked as a film. Doctor Sleep was inventive and terrific as well. He was on the books to do Revival and the script was done (and great according to King) but the studio sadly passed on it. Would love to see Flanagan attempt a new Salem’s Lot, Dark Half, or Needful Things too.

I love that movie so much. Better than the shining.

I know this will sound weird to some people and to some they will sadly know where I'm coming from. Stephen King saved my sanity as a teenager. When i read his books i could leave my horrible home life for a few chapters at a time. If I'm honest more than a few chapters at a time. But i digress. When people talk about his drug/alcohol abuse. He's human. Shit happens. Mr. King is the one who told us He had a problem. He's overcome His addictions and is a better man for it. Also from what i see and hear His kids are well adjusted human beings. Be like Stephen King!

Dr. Sleep has just been amazing so far (I'm almost to page 500). I read the shining before hand to just refresh myself, and this one almost makes me not want to read the shining again. It stars off right where the shining left off, and from there it gives Danny (now just called Dan) such character development and makes you feel as if you've know this guy your whole life. Stephen Kings writing is just awesome, and something I have been obsessed with as of late. The new IT movie made me grab the book. 1157 pages later, and I went on to read the shining and now Dr. Sleep. After that, I'm going to read 'different seasons' which contains 'the body' (stand by me book) 'Rita Hayworth and the Shankara redemption" and also check out 'the stand' which I've read is his best. For anyone getting into Stephen King, I'd start with the shining and see if you like it.

The Bachman Books were great (although Rage has been taken out of print at King's request - it pre-dated schhol schhotings). The Running Man and The Long Walk are classics. Skeleton Crew and Night Shift are great story collections.

Absolutely, shining is a great place to start. My King discovery has been pretty amazing and it does good to explore his different phases of writing from early psychological horror (like shining or Carrie) to full blown fantasy (Dark tower or It) to short stories (different seasons) to potboilers (mr Mercedes)... All written at different heights of his careers and wildly different... Truly a master of pure fiction.

I was happily surprised when I read Dr. Sleep and where the plot took you . Although I will always love the movie adaptations of King's books there's nothing more satisfying than having the shit scared out of you while admiring the prose that got you there . I think it might have been from The Lawn mower Man but there was a phrase that cracked me up once that went " greener than the pee stains in an Irishmans underwear " . Too funny !

I hate to say it, but he must have imagined another scene playing out in his mind, when he read Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde because Hyde does not turn and walk over the little girl a second time. But the way he described the scene, although false, is actually more frightening sounding than the real one

Kings is works very hard. He is driven by fear of being poor from living in horrible poverty as child. I knew a drunk that kept a six pack of beer next to his bed. This man would put his feet over his bed, drink down a can of beer, and smoke. King is work drunk. He wakes up, and put his feet over his bed, and his mind is think "What happens next in my story." He can talk about all these thing that happen in his book tours, because he rarely get away from his addiction.

The Shining and Misery are two of the weirdest, intense, insane books ever. As we know, the book is always better than the movie - read them even if you love the films on these two - which I do, including Dead Zone. Whether it’s before or after the movie, do read the book. Go King!
