The lady Jessica is one of the best characters I've ever read. She's strong but broken. She makes mistakes but always tries to do what she feels is right. I'm going next Wednesday with my wife. She hasn't read the book and isn't a SciFi fan, so I'm curious what she will think. That it's going to be released last in the US is bizarre. I thought two decades ago they finally switched to releasing movies everywhere around the world at the same time in order to reduce the demand for illegal downloads, and now they're switching it around so the most important market gets it last? I don't get it. Doesn't matter to me. We get it early, and even if we didn't, I want to see this on a big screen.

the dear lady may not know this since she has not finished the book but the lady Jessica delivers a line close to the end that is to me, utterly breathtaking and heartwarming. I love this dark and sad story. It's a fantasy that reflects reality quite accurately. Frank wanted to explore the question, "What do we do with our messiahs, with our heroes?" and "I believe every hero should come with a warning stamp on his forehead, "warning: maybe dangerous to your health". This story explores the deep entanglement of religion and politics, political intrigue among lesser powers, the powers of religion upon very simple people and the endless work of an honored ecologist who inspired these simple people to bring a balance of water to the desert without killing the substance of the spice, the Giant worm, Shyhalude. The first book was written to be one story ended where it's at, not knowing how it would be received. It is a masterpiece in itself.
