An impromptu performance by Stephen Stills playing Bluebird with the Buffalo Springfield Revisited at the Palomino in North Hollywood, circa July, 1986 This was the first time that Stills heard the Revisited as well as first time he played with his old bandmates and founding Springfield members, Bruce Palmer and Dewey Martin in almost 20 years. Frank Wilks, the lead singer, really nails the guitar opening and I think that he caught Stills by surprise.
I have it from a good source that the cameraman was at the performance to party down, wasn't planning on shooting that night and would even be willing to bet that he was pleasantly stoned. LMAO!
Enjoy cough~cough

I agree, but check out one other band. Have you ever heard of Love? Their album "Forever Changes?" They were very musically eclectic, but never got the credit they deserved.

@@thomasromano9321 Yes, I had that album. Although I don't listen to it very often now, more than a half century after it was released, I still LOVE it. They had a very unique sound. I read that Arthur Lee was a good friend of Jimi Hendrix, and even collaborated with Jimi on a project or two. Thank goodness for KZbin where we can listen to all these classic albums whenever we want. It is such a blessing for music lovers like us!

You're right. Supposedly Arthur Lee's mode of dress (colorful gypsy scarves, for example) inspired Jimi Hendrix's clothing. I was listening to "Forever Changes." Geez. What a great album. It seems so many of the great bands had more than one songwriter. In Love it was Arthur Lee and Bryan McLean. I mean, this was the band that wrote all their own material, from "Orange Skies" and "Alone Again Or" to "Little Red Book," and "7 plus 7!" @@davidzimmerli489 I wish to hell Arthur Lee had wanted to tour more. The band never got the recognition they deserved. They were so musically diverse. Instead Arthur Lee recommended The Doors, and, while a great band in their own right, eclipsed what Love might have accomplished. And then later Arthur Lee tried to reform the original Love, but Bryan McLean would have none of him. And then it was too late. Very sad. I'm at least glad that on later tours, Arthur Lee performed some of Bryan's songs as well as his own.

The cardinal rule of these sort of cover / tributes is to "do no harm". It is obvious from the performance and Stills' enthusiastic participation that not only no harm was done, but the whole thing is a beautifully executed re-enactment. Nice. Thanks for uploading it.

Back in those days, I roadied for my friend's band, HARLIN. On Aug. 1, 1987, they opened for the Buffalo Springfield Revisited and Guess Who Reunion at Chuck Landis' COUNTRY CLUB in Reseda, a wonderful venue. This was a dream come true for our bandleader and frontman, Whil Harlin, as he simply idolized Buffalo Springfield, especially Neil Young. Harlin had been known to play "Mr. Soul" in their set a few times a few months earlier at the Roxy Theatre and Whisky-a-go-go, and they had the cojones to play it again that night, while opening for the headliners who would also play it! It was a bold move, and could well have caused a fight backstage. Drummer "Smilin'" Dewey Martin and bassist Bruce Palmer were the only original band members there, but Bruce was feeling under the weather and didn't play that night. As our band was passing their dressing room in the hall after the show, the singer saw us and pulled us into their room. He exclaimed, "This guy sounds more like Neil Young than I do!", and it was a good laugh. They were great sports about it, although I don't think Dewey and Bruce were nearly as thrilled as their singer was, but they never said anything negative. The "Revisited" were excellent, my favorite song of the night being "Rock and Roll Woman". It was a very good evening!

He had 12 guitars on a couple of racks, would switch seamlessly between songs, play a chor to get the feel and off he went= old, new, op's songs, a Hendrix feedback riff...he also played the piano. To be honest, he surprised me w/ his versatility and mastery of the guitar's'.

I beg to differ, but I see how you could draw that conclusion. The clip begins towards the end of the band's practice on Neil's song which is when it came together . What we are witnessing is what turned out to be two songs in the making- Road of Plenty (only played live w/ Crazy Horse) and ElDorado (the polished, studio end product) which were both performed and recorded, respectively, well after this rehearsal. What you haven't seen is the first 20 minutes of the band working on the song which has some ~record scratch~ , bite the finger nails, musical moments. LOL I believe that they may have worked on it the day before, day one, but I wasn't a fly on the wall that day. ;)

Very much appreciate seeing this. Why on earth didn't they ask Stephen to take up the vocals? It is his own song after all. If you ask me, that was wayyyy RUDE. To me it's a lack of respect. You have the original founding member of the group with you there, and you just let him play guitar? OK I'm RETRACTING my comment....just saw the "For What It's Worth"'s performance.. and he IS doing the lead singing. But I am wondering if something happened behind the scene. I can tell from Stephen's reaction when he left the stage, he was not the happiest of man . He passed by Frank and barely acknowledged him. Or again might be me, I'm very prejudice when it comes to Stephen. lol On the positive note, they sounded pretty darn good.

Sorry, I didn't think it was all that great..kinda disappointed in Stills..I was a HUGE CSN, CSNY,Y, C&N fan--you name it--from the get=go and saw them 6-7 times-----however somewhere around the same time as this clip, I saw CSNY at the OKC Amphitheater at the ZOO--when they did Wooden Ships, I had slithered my way up to the front row, standing about 10 feet from Stills, when it came time for his solo, he strutted up front even closer to me, turned the volume up on his Firebird and hit about 40 sour notes in a row--to the song he had written--he was in the wrong key. have always looked at him a little differently than I had.......I think he had great potential, and did some really great stuff, but he may be ''under rated'' because he was sometimes more interested in getting messed up before and during shows to take care of is craft. still love TREETOP FLYER

19tractor52 I wouldn’t indict Stills on being unable to play based on one show. If you don’t like him, O.K. But I’m old enough to have seen Hendrix 3 times. The last two he was too blasted to play. Literally got pulled off the stage by Bill Graham the last time. I decided, without rancor not to pay to see him again. Tickets were $30 bucks, or thereabouts. I was not pleased with standing through a show, no matter the artist, it just equated with greedy promoters. To me Stills came out of the folk scene and I loved the idea he could, and usually did, burn the house down. I was driven to see the Hendrix/Clapton/Bloomfield or Stills if I could. The camera work on this is awful. Not sure he played all the lead. A great song, a great artist, a great show. Hope you’re still getting out to see live music.

No. Bruce Palmer and drummer Dewey Martin were the only BS members in "Revisted." Stills was pretty open-minded to sit-in on a song he wrote, sang, and originally did all the acoustic parts the other guy copied exactly.

Christ Almighty! You can always count on some KZbinrs to make ridiculous statements, but the doofus factor is particularly high in this thread. What part of Buffalo Springfield REVISITED don't some of you understand? "Where's Richie?" "Where's Neil?" "No Steve Stills for miles around." "Why lie?" Not to mention "Lead sitar." "Why didn't they do the banjo outro?" "It's about Joni Mitchell." Christ Almighty!

Poor old Stephen.. Coked out of his mind... Military fixation still in place. Oblivious and ungrateful to his house band.. Apart from the seated Bruce palmer.. Looks like every one else was unworthy in the eyes of general Stephen. Still he's a great guitarist.. As he said to Neil Young attired in combat fatigues.. "god damn it the uniform still fits"... Apparently he served in nam... Special services don't you know. Neil tried to point out that at the time of Stephens covert missions he was actually onn the strip being an inflated rock star. Hilarious. I think there is also a story about him on a plane going berserk and being reprimanded by the captain only for Stephen to tell him he was also a military man and recognised the need for discipline... Fuckin hilarious. Apparently he has been an advocate for Veterans to this day.. Derangement city
