Lyrics:
Carrying the weight of the world uphill
Keep on running so you don’t stand still
Ice cream meltin’ on the red dirt race track
Walking through the halls with a bullet proof backpack
Ain’t old enough to buy your own cold beer
Y’all ain’t the ones who make the rules ‘round here
Eat your peas and say your prayers
Hush your mouth and brush your hair
Who do you think you are kid
Bare feet on the tar kid
Crashing daddy’s car kid
Grow up fast like your momma did
Teenage baby had a baby
All them dreams turn into maybe
Maybe’s now a healthy never
Forever young ain’t young forever
Ain’t that the truth about the truth
Will put a world of hurt on you
A broomstick poke in the bike spokes
The joke’s on you
Who are you
Trying to
Kid
Fighting with a cast ‘round a half broke wrist
Skin on the road from a handlebar twist
Can’t make sense of the story they gave us
Money won’t do it but the Lord might save us
All sins are forgiven
Jesus on the walls
Hell Uncle Mike’s in heaven
And there ain’t no Santa Claus
Who do you think you are kid
Bare feet on the tar kid
Crashing daddy’s car kid
Grow up fast like your momma did
Teenage baby had a baby
All them dreams turn into maybe
Maybe’s now a healthy never
Forever young ain’t young forever
Ain’t that the truth about the truth
Will put a world of hurt on you
A broomstick poke in the bike spokes
The joke’s on you
Who are you
Trying to
Kid
Who do you think you are, kid
Who do you think you are kid… You ain’t bound to go far kid…
Tell me how’d you get that scar, kid?… Sorry life’s so hard kid…
Ain’t that the truth about the truth
Will put a world of hurt on you
A broomstick poke in the bike spokes
The joke’s on you
Who are you
Who are you
Who are you
Trying to
Kid

You got that right. I miss the good ol days, now everything is inverted, people are soft and too shiny, boys are girls, egg I think I catch my drift. How did we(wholesome ignorance) let so much infiltrate our everything? Well I've been up nights looking for the exact word. DISTRACTION! that's my final answer lol. This next group of young adults are gonna have an eye opener. 🤦

Every time he says "sorry life's so hard kid" I hear myself, in my head, saying that to my son, while simultaneously hearing it from my father, who passed away just a few months ago. On a side note, Lori Mckenna appears to be credited with co-writing this song. The lyrics actually caused me to look and see if she had some hand in this. It's an amazing song.
