In this “kick drum technique” series, we’ve been talking all about pedal optimization and foot technique. But none of that is any good if our right foot isn’t coordinated enough to play along with our other limbs. In today’s conclusion to the series, I will teach you several “rudimental-style” patterns that will free up your right foot and expand your ability to execute complex kick patterns. Linear playing, from a basic standpoint, isn’t very difficult. What’s cool is that you can use these simple patterns to potentially play very complex, difficult-sounding stuff. I’m not big into teaching you licks, which is why I’m encouraging you to use these as a catalyst for you own creativity and development. But it’s safe to say you can use some of these patterns as is to play very cool sounding patterns right off the bat.
