Nah......... on a guitar you don't really have to remember chords, it eventually boils down to muscle memory; and on a bass you generally don't even play chords.

I like drumming because: 1) I always know what time it is.... the neighbor is pounding on my door screaming, "shut up, it's 3 AM!2) Broken sticks make great weapons against vampires,3) Used heads make great Frisbees.4) Constantly tapping on stuff really annoys people.5) Schlepping a couple hundred pounds of gear & showing up 45minutes early to set up for practice is fun.6) Playing on a "shared" kit & spending 45 minutes tweaking & retuning everything because the last drummer didn't care.7) Dealing with a leader that doesn't know ANYTHING about drums & tries to explain what type of groove they want.8) Finishing up a cool fill by smashing my knuckle between the floor tom rim & my stick always makes my day.9) Always being told by the guitarist to stop my warm-ups because he's "tuning".And the best reason of all?10) Because drumming if so freaking COOL! It doesn't matter what kind of day I'm having or how bad practice is, playing drums is the BEST!

1. Being able to groove with other musicians, like a bass or keyboard player, goes without saying as the best feeling on this earth. 2.It doesn't stop at the drumset. There are tons more percussion instruments from all around the world that have their own story and sound, and that opens more doors for creativity to pass through. 3. Being in a community where everyone is striving to get better as a musician is really cool.

My absolute favorite thing about drumming is that the sound you have is a personal thing. Not only be genre, but by more variables. Say I hot a snare drum, and my friend hits the exact same drum. We'll have a different sound because we choose where to hit it and how to hit it. Drummers also have different gripping styles for the sticks, and that can also vary the sound. Just everything about drumming is personal, including how you groove out.

Love the opening statement!!! But I started playing drums in school band in 6th grade because my dad was a drummer. But after awhile it was all about me (sadly). But then I found faith and now every time I play for practice or for worship team it's for God. And ever since I started playing for God more opportunities are opening for me to play at different churches and getting my name and style out there.

I'm not a drummer, but I have an interest, which is what brought me to this channel! I liked what you said about the drummer being responsible for the sound the audience hears. I have found that to be absolutely true, and the more musical and skilled the drummer, the better they sound. The truly great players go to real lengths to make sure that everything in on point: their tuning, setup, miking, etc is absolutely top notch. I have seen Dave Weckl play live many times, and he always takes his own mikes/mixing board with him, so that he mixes the drums himself, and then feeds his final drum mix to front of house to their mixing board. He always sounds so clean and precise.

For me one of the answer is that there are so many sound possibilities, there are so many more sounds you can play than the just what you are supppsed to play. You can play what you are supposed to play and more sounds, all of that is awesome and that you use the whole body! And thats just one or two of many of the reasons I play Drums!

Drums are so personal. You can have a guitarist play a chord, and have a different guitarist play the same chord and it will sound exactly the same. But if you have a drummer hit a snare drum, and then have a different drummer hit the exact sam drum. It will sound different. Thats why you can tell the difference from bonham to ringo. And keith moon from gene krupa. Thats something i will always love about acoustic drums.

I gotta say, too, that drummers always intrigued me. Most everyone else (except maybe the keyboard player) are always up front on stage. But the drummer is always there in the background, just doing what he does. He doesn't have to put scarves all over his microphones or dance around like a chihuahua on speed. Just quietly (not really!) does his job. Plus, the tempo and rhythm of a piece is the first thing I notice and will lock into. Back in the days of disco (my latter teens and twenties), that part of the song was absolutely the *heart* of the song, as you can imagine. If I was a girl, I'd probably be most drawn to the drummer.

The best things about being a drummer for me are: -Being fortunate and able (with all of my passion and hard work) to be a real, deep spiritual and integral part of the music. I can experience AND contribute to the moment all at once. -I am so grateful for music. Music is my blood. My breath. My spirit. My life. -It feels so good when I can get an entire group of people (no matter how big or small) to feel the music with the love and joy that I do. -But. After all that. I would have to say that the for me, the BEST part of being a drummer is being in the position to see and hear some awesome musicians really up close. And most importantly, I can contribute to THEIR experience by giving them a launch pad and musical platform to soar and enjoy the moment as much as I do. It truly is 'The Best Seat in The House'! 🎼🎵🎶🥁💙❤️💥🔥🥳🙏

Serious drumming requires focused commitment to constantly improve your abilities both on and off the kit. Attention to health, nutrition, physical strength, flexibility and stamina ALL play a key role in optimizing performance. You run the risk of serious injury if you neglect any of these areas. This is the ZEN of drumming, and it has kept me strong and fit both physically and mentally for decades. I love my drums!!

Nr.1 reminded me of when, a few weeks back, my band wrote a power metal song. We've never really done a song like that before, and we quickly realized how hard it is to play all the other instruments (except drums because I've practiced to quite a lot of power metal) when the snare is constantly playing off beat because of the speed. So when our keyboardist and guitarist messed up the accents I just ignored the melody and kept on time instead. It's an empowering feeling when you know the song so well you don't need the melody and just play it in your head!

It's fun, but I know I have a ways to go before I'll be able to play in front of the congregation and not mess up or forget stuff. So I practice on my practice pad and go to church after hours and play on the kit. I absolutely enjoy playing the drums. Thanks.

Main reason I became a drummer was everyone else I knew played guitar or bass guitar. I already knew how to play the drums, so for the past 10 years I have swapped from being drummer, to playing guitar, to doing bass guitar. I love each one equally and all 3 instruments have their own pros and cons. Sometimes when I am playing drummer and my guitar player just doesn't play a certain part the way I would, I just sit there and kind of cringe...... And I think how I would play it, and it's a bit frustrating. I've been on guitar for 27 years and on bass for 15 years. Drums is the least time I have on an instrument, but I can hold my own pretty darn good. I think it helped that I was already a musician and kind of stepped into a realm I was comfortable with. I do rhythm much better than lead, and drums are definitely rhythm.

#1 keeping everything clean with chaos around. Keyboardist adjusted music sheets, turned on the beat loop. She didnt even know. Maybe 45 seconds left in the song. The bassist and I looked at each other and kept rollin. No one else in the band heard it. I actually enjoyed the challenge though

Absolutely! The "control" of the overall feel and energy of a song is a great reason to be a drummer! Imagine if we left THOSE things up to guitarists and vocalists?! 🤣

The best thing about drums imo is all of the different sounds we can make, from a cowbell to a pendejo to a snare, whatever you want to hook up to your kit.

I remember when I was one of the drummers at our church. Modesty aside the Pastor said the congregation wasn't alive when the praise & worship started, but when I played everyone was wide awake joyful! Too bad he didn't know the first drummer was way better than me! The 1st. drummer is more advanced, my skill is in the kindergarten level. Just my 2 cents worth. Peace out!

as a multiinstrumentalist, what I find seperates drums from other instruments, kind of goes without saying. its harmony and melody. keys and all that. as a guitar/bassplayer everything I do have to be integrated with both the rythm and the harmony of the music. as a drummer you can get away with allmost anything as long as it is locked with the rythm. whenever I play drums with other people.. just jamming etc, I find it extremely liberating. That`s why drumming is the instrument that is most FUN to play. you dont have to think.. just be, feel and act..

Always been a musician, came to drumming later on (after I married a bass player), and 20 years later, we still are playing together (mostly grunge tribute stuff!) When I nail something challenging just right - and we are locked in - the look my husband/bassist gives me is the best thing in the world. And I especially love it when someone else yells - what key is this in? And I have no idea and don't care. And when people think I can play like a dude.

I am a guitar and piano player and I am just starting out on drums. The reason why I chose drums as my next instrument is because it feels SO DAMN COOOOOL hitting stuff and it makes me so alert and energetic when I play. Also I hope that drums will help me improve my rythm skills, because rythm is my weak point as a musician, I am not very steady on solo playing xD

I love to drum because I’m a problem solver type and, I love to display a solid meter, use in ear metronome. If there was a second choice it would be the surreal moment when you the band melts together and becomes this profound thing you can’t totally umm…see, but when members also compliment other members by for example giving the correct space to perform their notes and not walk on other musical talents you’re performing with. 😀😁🤘🤘

One of the coolest things for me is to provide the foundation that my fellow musicians can securely rely on. That is when I manage to play exactly what is needed to support their playing and make them shine. Playing music is for me a way of talking to people without using words. My role as the drummer is to "speak" in a way that makes everyone comfortable enough to express themselves freely, and with a steady hand lead the "conversation" on to new topics. I create the context for what is about to happen. Maybe that was overly philosophical, I hope you get what I mean.

My favorite part about drumming is that you can play literally any genre without much change to your technique. Playing along to a film score with mallets is honestly the most fun I've had on a drum kit.

I dunno about the gear. I mean, there are peiple obsessed with gear, but most of the drummers I know are not THAT obsessed. I mean, there are some really badly obsessed bass players. Coolest things about the drums: ANYTHING can be used as your instrument!!! It's so funny to make rocks part of your set 😂

LOL..for number 9 that depends which band you play in and the ego of other bandmates; I used to play with a bassist who constantly liked to correct me at the tempo; I had to follow him not all the way around or it would be a fight, lol, he had good tempo but then again so do I !! .. in another band the "leader" who was the keyboard player used to "mark" the tempos on all the songs and he is horrible everything was always in a hurry no way this guy would nail a good tempo ever; i had to follow likewise because when I tried to bring that up i was told he was the MD and to shut up..so..# 9 ? lol..depends!!! The rest of points are nailed! Right on!

Seriously? Someone telling the drummer to follow *them*? Unless your tempo isn't good as a drummer, just no way. That's the biggest part of the drummer's job-- to keep the band locked on tempo. Sheesh!
