excellent tutorial - just a little note. You don't need to leave Keynote to create the mask for the sliding graphs. You can use the tools under [format]>[shapes and llines]>and then [unite] or [intersect] or [subtract] or [exclude]

Regarding the layer grid you use to make the "Move In" transition not come from bottom there is a very easier way than using Screenshot and Photoshop. You can do all from Keynote. 1st step : display the layers panel (CMD + MAJ + L) 2nd step : duplicate all your grey backgrounds (so we can then remove them) 3rd step : create a white square same size as frame 4th step : move all duplicated grey backgrounds before the white square 5th step : select them all and in Format > Disposition > Substract Way easier ! :)

I just picked up Keynote for a new client and your videos helped me a ton! Coming from 10 years of PowerPoint Design, Keynote is much slower to design in for sure, lots of missing functionality (maybe I just missed them) navigating the canvas with a scroll wheel, manipulating multiple shapes at once, shape masking to an existing shape, animation copy/pasting, etc. That said I liked Keynotes layout significantly more which feels dumb cause everything was so much slower. Like I won't be going out of my way to use it just because all the little time sinks add up when a paying client is involved but if I was designing just for myself and I had the luxury to take my time then I could see my self using this.

I know all this stuff as I create some (pretty good) presentations. Yesterday I was having some issues as I wanted to have a controlled move in transition. During my research I stumbled on your video and watched up to about the 18 minute mark, and was asking myself “yes, ok, but _how_ is your move in behaving like that?” I figured out it could have been something related to a template you were using for charts or something, so I continued my research. Eventually I read up the solution elsewhere. As so often happens when we become good at something, we look for complex solutions to simple problems, and while I would probably have come up with this DIY workaround when I was newer to the task, I would probably never have thought of masking now (looking instead for actual solutions like start points and paths, travel distance, etc.) Today I decide to continue watching your video and first thing you mention is the masking technique. Lol. I should have stuck around a little longer.
@kencur96903 жыл бұрын
P.s. I think your own solution is itself a bit over and unnecessarily complicated. You could achieve the same result by simply screenshooting in keynote to your clipboard the lower part, placing it in place and simply layering the colors behind it (so send to back for the cutout - in order not to mask the text - and send to back the color - in order to be masked by the cutout). You don’t even need to screenshot anything, in fact, if you use shapes. Same methodology, just apply a shape which is suited: in your case it is tricky given the pill like shape but in cases with squares for instance, as was mine, simply draw a blank square as the mask, and send it to back but just one layer in front of the thing to be masked.

OMD’s Stephen. U r a flipping star. I was watching a video of someone who added these effects and I was tryna replicate but they never reply when u asked them. That flip change colour effect, i was at that for a whole day tryna figure it out, hovered over ur video whilst watching other tutorials but ONLY u spoke properly about these extra features. Shoulda have watched urs all along and I would have done this in seconds. 😭. Either way. Thank u for this. And would seriously want more vids from u about more animations or the photoshop masking process. SUBSCRIBED.

I really don't give a hoot about presentations but I'm all about simple animation tools. With the way you can link shapes to another page or an external webpage I'm beginning to wonder if Keynote might be the modern incarnation of HyperCard. All you would need would to be able to link a shape to one of these actions. Since you can set the action to fire as soon as the page comes up, linking to that page IS linking to that action. My next project it to try to replicate one of the classic HyperCard games in Keynote. I'm betting I can do it!
