Pool is one of those games - it even forces a snooker player to forget their pre-shot routine, to check and keep eyes on the potting angle, to chalk the tip after every shot, to feather, to pull the backswing and hold then follow through with the cue ball, chin on cue, head still until after object ball potted.

for some reason, all the locals in my pub play pool where if the opponent fouls, you get two visits to the table. not just one free shot, but two full visits. Glad to see proper rules being played here.
@JT-4realАй бұрын
The game played at your pub would be "World rules" or a version of. It looks like they were playing "International rules" here in this video. Although, there is a rule we play in Australia that says that on the break, either 3 balls need to cross the middle of the table, or pot a ball which is 1 point and 3 points need to be made off the break. Also need to strike a cushion after a shot if the object ball is not potted. It helps to stop stupid snookers that end up in pub brawls. In "IR" rules, it's ball in hand with one shot. "WR" there are 2 visits from a foul.

Funny mix of rules for an English 8 ball table, at least from what I grew up with. We didn't do ball-in-hand (unless you moved it back behind baulk), and potting an opponents ball on your turn was always a foul (regardless of what you struck first). Also didn't need to find a cushion. One thing hasn't changed though, every other place had their own rules.
@sideshowrob5453Ай бұрын
It's not a "mix of rules". It's International Rules (fairly new ruleset that was originally called "Supreme Rules"). The same set of rules they use in Ultimate Pool, which Gareth Potts has played in. The same Gareth Potts that was on this channel and will have taught the rules to Stephen. Ball in hand after a foul - Blackball rules... Behind the baulk line with one free shot (you can play any ball) followed by one visit. International Rules... anywhere on the table with one visit. In Blackball Rules, you may play the ball from where it lies before requesting ball in hand. In International Rules, potting only your opponent's ball(s) after otherwise playing a legal shot (hitting your own ball first) is called a Loss of Turn shot. It's not a foul and the incoming player must play from where the cueball lies. This also applies when the table is still "open". If the table is open (players have not chosen a colour/group) and you play a red first but pot only a yellow, it is still a loss of turn with no foul. Hitting a cushion on every shot is in both sets of rules (Not World Rules though, I believe. But I could be wrong). After the cueball has struck an object ball, either a ball must be potted, or any ball must touch a cushion. There is one other notable rule that many people are not aware of and that is the "Combination Shot". Again, present in both rulesets, the Combination Shot allows a player to pot balls from both groups during the same shot, provided that the cueball first makes contact with the player's own group. When balls from both groups are potted as per the Combination Shot rule, they may enter the pockets in any order (some people argue that your own group must drop first but this is not the case). If balls from only your opponent's group are potted, in International Rules, this is a Loss of Turn, but in Blackball Rules, this is a foul.
