Looking great so far Stephen! I've never thought of this way to make a bowl, it's a great idea and saves wasting a lot of wood as you do with a normal blank! That sander really does do the job too ! Looking forward to part 2, I'm learning a lot for videos keep up the good work my friend. Trev

Love the sander on the lathe idea! I've seen drum sanders etc but never done in this way with the adjustment table.

Thank you sir for commenting and I'm glad you like the sander. It is really a simple concept and not to difficult to build. I appreciate you taking time to comment on my videos and hope you will enjoy Part 2.

I did enjoy part 2 & I think I've watched all your video's now & found them really helpful. Especially the fact that you're a hobbyist & just trying new things. Being shown by an "expert" is different & sometimes daunting but thanks to you, I will definitely be trying a segmented bowl. One question, do you use any particular glue for the sandpaper on the drum? Something easily removable? Thanks for taking the time to upload & reply to questions.
@StephenOgle
@StephenOgle 10 жыл бұрын
Thank you for commenting and I do not use any glue on the sandpaper. I simply tape down both ends with reinforced tape. It is easy to put on and take off. Hope this has been helpful.

Great video, as always, and great bowl! like Robbie, I love the drum sender, and since I have almost no basic tools in my little shop, I would make me one of these as soon as possible (and give you the credit...)!. I was starting to write here about my first E-bowl, which I did last week, but when I looked up I noticed that my comment has become longer then all the other comments combined, so I let it go! Going to finish the second half of your video, keep up the good work!
@StephenOgle
@StephenOgle 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Yuval, for the thoughtful comments. they inspire me to keep going with my videos. The drum sander is a versatile tool and you will find many uses for it. Don't worry about any credit. Just build and use it. that's good enough for me. I would like to here about your E-bowl. Thank you and hope you enjoy part 2.

Good job Stephen. Did I see that you had your sanding drum chucked up on your lathe? If so, this is a great idea! Do you have a video on how you made the fix for it? Cheers Jean-Paul

Dang! What a great project. This is something I can do....hurry up with the upload of part two! Also, Keep up the great work. I truly appreciate your efforts and ALWAYS learn something new each time you post something. For example, how did you make your "trammel" ? This looks like a tool that I can really make use of. Hope the weather didn't hit you too hard. Keep warm and keep turning!
@StephenOgle
@StephenOgle 10 жыл бұрын
Thank again for all your support Earl, the trammel is from Woodsmith magazine. It is made of four pieces one I'll call the headstock which has a pencil hole drilled in it with a set screw. That attaches to two rails screwed to it . The rails then sit inside the tailstock with a screw too tighten between them when you get your correct arc making it adjustable. A very sharp pin is placed onto the bottom of the tailstock. I tried to make it fancy liking like the magazine but you don't have to be that elaborate. I hope I have helped you understand my trammel better.

Hello Stephen, I was looking forward to this video and really enjoyed it. I think I gained about 10 good tips from it and I'm looking forward to part 2 which I will watch this evening. Have you done a video on making the sander? Best wishes, Alan.

I have seen videos on making a drum sander for the lathe. How accurate is it? Thanks for the videos, I like it when somebody goes into detail instead of just fast forwarding through their turnings.
@StephenOgle
@StephenOgle 10 жыл бұрын
Well James, first of all, thank you for commenting and asking questions about my videos. The drum sander is very accurate if you just take your time and get it right. Like I said the mandrel is the hardest part then you need to make sure that the bed is parallel with it (I used very thin shims on the mounting plate to raise on side to get it right. I hope this is helpful to you. Thanks for supporting my channel.
