Star Citizen's Gatac Railen , this ship really surprised me. Packed with cool alien tech and many moving parts the Railen looks fantastic inside and out. I look foward to seeing its arrival in the verse if the concepts images hold true, the Railen from Gatac has the potential to be a classic! BUT what do you guys think about the Railen? the pods at 9:30 are nutrition amphoras for the xi'an, because from what i remember they only eat fermented and aged food otherwise they wouldn't digest it, so it's just the alien kitchen

I too at first said meh, but when I took a closer look a few months ago, I was impressed by what I saw, so I purchased a cheap Terrapin to Railen CCU to hold a spot for when this ship comes out. Now, this ship will compete heavily with the Hull B, a much cheaper ship that holds more cargo. I'm hoping the price difference isn't merely in the style and animations. Now if it indeed has two S3 shields, that's already pretty impressive. My *hope* is that CIG will make her fast so she can act like a proper blockade runner. Sadly, it doesn't look, despite its size, that it will be able to fit any ground vehicles at all other than maybe trying to cram a Pulse into that gravlev elevator.

I have one and will also be getting a Hull B for similar cargo size, quick load/unloading but still for different uses. The Railen will be great for long range more protected runs while the Hull B for more security bound system to system runs.

In Q&A for gatak they mentioning that the triangle pots are just cans to hold standard SCU boxes So it is mix between hull series and fully enclosed ships

Great video, I would love to justify a pledge to one of these. I was never interested until I got a Syulen, and the design of this and the Syulen is amazing! I'm hoping it has Syulen-like speed and long range/efficiency. I cant wait to see what CIG does to make it attractive over other cargo ships that transport more goods and are cheaper to get.

Another big advantage to factor in here is it is fully integrated to work with Xian freight services. Currently all other ships use UEE standards which do not interoperate well with Xian standards (time sink). Listen carefully this was the point she emphasised, it interoperates with both UEE and Xian standards hence the pinnacle of High tech cargo haulers. I suspect it may be able to matter beam the materials into those pods.

Railen has potential as a fast long range hauler. The cargo boxes look like nightmare fuel for manual loading. If they made it more flexible (external cargo grid) then it would be a winner.

granted its bigger than most think but its also smaller than you think. it has 3 levels sure but the first 2 are looking like they will have to be really narrow. so it wont feel so large. last level seems to be really wide tho looking good in art anyways.. i also love this idea and pledged it as soon as i could :D loaners are Conny T and Zyulen

@PIN the containers in the particular image you were looking at are fermentation pods in the galley of the ship. Xi'an like molds and fermenting various foods sauces and drinks and have various recipes passed down through their long lived families its a very cool addition showing its a dual species ship

I really want the railen to be released but I would be suprised if we get it in less than 2 years simply due to it being a ship that probably needs at least a year of development from a moderatly sized team, this year and next year has some pretty big rsi projects (polaris/galaxy/perseus and potentially the arastra). I am allways up for being plessantly suprised but I would reccomend having patciance with this one.

@9:48 looks like engineering, i remember hearing or reading somewhere that the components would come to the engineer instead of the engineer going to the components, or at least for most of the components. the missiles, 2xs4 rack and 2xs3 rack

I always love seeing more of this ship as it's one of my favorites ever since i saw it. However with the current cargo as it is, i wonder how the load and unload will be like, considering they're pushing for everything manual and the height of the ships i can't imagine using a tractor beam to load the huge boxes all the way up. Perhaps that's one of the reasons they wont release it yet until that part gets figured out?

If they rework it so that the external bins rotate to ground level for loading (or to upper level for the on board tractor beam) and accept 32scu boxes it could be a winner. As it is concepted, it would be a nightmare to load.

My big fear is it will end up been fully reworked and look almost nothing like what we have got in the concept and that loading cargo is going to be hell. The Cargo rework means its going to suck trying to load the cargo how ever the pods work. If you side load the pods that will be so much work to un/load will be a massive pain and if the pods come off to be loaded thats a chore to lift them up and down none stop when moving cargo.

I pledged for the Railen, seeing a potential for a really interesting ship, and if the Syulen is any indication I do think it's going to be a very unique experience. I do wonder if it would have been better for the turrets to be angled towards the rear instead of the front to better deal with enemies pursuing the ship though.

Maybe it'll be so speedy there are few enemies that would keep up. If it's like a blockade runner, it could be. Or you fly with a fellow Railen, so that you can cover each other when needed ^__^

Not sure if you see this, but just as far as those ‘cylinders’ go in that shot after the bathroom, that’s the kitchen area. In the lounge coloured concept there’s two sorta halls, one each side, of the big dining table with archways leading through. Those are the kitchen and bathrooms respectively, and the kitchen has both a human food and drinks processor in the centre section, along with a general prep table it seems, and all those cylinders are fermentation vessels as Xi’An only eat fermented foods. It has been confirmed in the original dev diary about it I believe but I can’t find the link right now, but yeh those are for fermenting foods to eat for the Xi’An crew Other interesting facts is that the bathroom has a human toilet shower combo on the left and a xian on on the right, the reason for this is Xi’an showers ideally need to have a very rough and sharp exfoliation pad for longer journeys, not an issue with the syulen which is more a runabout, but for the railen it’s vital for keeping their carapace clean. The sink is also a human sink(?), notably it doesn’t have the same appearance as the one we see in the syulen, which is designed to be both a sink and toilet for human and xi’an respectively. Xi’an pee wierd… But given this is a multicrew ship they can’t just mix them into one like that as, well no human wants to wash their hands and face in a toilet… So I assume they will have either two ‘sinks’ to cover either ourpose or have a dedicated and different looking urinal system for the Xi’an Other fun facts, just behind the cockpit area is a components roulette system, so a large proportion (not all) of the components are stored there behind a control panel, when you need one you can simply interact wi th the panel and tell it to bring up a component and it will lift it up and ferry it directly to you for repair or replacement. This will be a MASSIVE benefit once engineering comes fully online and also make crewing this thing with fewer people much easier. This is why imo the galaxy is a 6 crew while this can operate with only 4

I bought this ship a while back and still have it in my hangar line up but I will be surprised if it gets in game before 2026. CIG has so much work to do in bug fixing that I don’t know if much development of ships is high on the priority list. I want this ship in my hands so badly it irritates me when ships like the Syulen and Zeus get completed in game before ships that were announced and sold MUCH longer ago.

Here's the problem with the Railen, those triangle pods. They look cool, but you likely won't be able to store square containers on it. So, moving cargo from one ship to the Railen may be impossible unless they somehow make it compatibility. Also, that huge front cross section is just going to take all the hits. Talk about the broad side of a barn...

I have one from original concept 2021, i'm a bit disappointed that the Syulen came out first! But I guess CIG will learn from the smaller version! Its a little odd that its around the same size as the Hercules but half the cargo size.. Also the cargo containers look very specific to the Railen. These don't break anything for me but noteworthy!

Having triangles just to have triangles makes absolutely zero sense. But even if it somehow works in Xian infrastructure, the human infrastructure likes to stack cubes. Our current SCU containers can snap in anyway you desire because they are cubes. Not sure why they couldn't just do square SCU containers. Even more confusing since the Syulen uses 1SCU cube crates.

why I bought a CCU to it at concept is because there are many ships that can hold 66-128 SCU. (the Taurus wasn't in game at the time) and then there was this big jump to the 450-ish SCU level with the Carrack. 576 in the Cat, and 695 (I can't remember) in the C2. then anather HUGE jump to the 3000 neighborhood of the BMM and Hull C. I needed a stepping stone between the 120 of my FL Max and the 450 of my Carrack. Railen: 320. and now even better, Taurus at 174(?)

This ship will likely be aweful for hauling. It either gets unique cargo sizes/boxes, or you'll have to fit cargo in the triangles. Either way, it'll be an absolute nightmare to load because it seems like you'll only be able to fit smaller scu boxes. It was only designed for looks with no gameplay in mind. It looks awesome, and i was sold initially, but now it's seems like a huge waste of money

Cracking ship and it’s in my CCU chain up to something else. I really hope this comes out soon as it is so cool. In terms of SCU capacity it’s similar to the Hull B (though not quite as much) so in my mind it’s in that Hill B category of cargo hauler. I wonder if we will see Gatac Mining ships 🤔

Much like the Endeavor, the game has progressed to a point where these ships could in principal be viable, in the case of the Endeavor, CIG have the Hull assets, which is what they intend to build out the Odyssey with, to a certain extent, also CIG have Cargo sorted in principal, Modules are also possible now, tractor beams are well developed, and we have Pyro, jump points and a massive dev pool to draw from, quite possibly a couple of years away though. The Syulen was possibly a prototype to test out the concept/mechanics and flight dynamics for the Railen, this ship could get dropped in Alien Week, or even IAE, the Railen is a more realistic, practical and useable ship for many. PS: You also get the: Constellation Taurus,/Syulen as Loaners, which is a nice choice.

Having the syulen in game gave me a lot of hope because it means that technologies, lighting, sounds and much more are available for the syulen "in game". It will be broken on release and won't be "fixed" until two years after release and demonstrate few if any of its advertised strengths and attributes. Best it can do is be a rung on a CCU ladder if the game is even still alive in two years.
