helpful hints; non-blue pikmin will never carry anything through water. if there is no way to carry something but through water, non-blue pikmin will start walking in circles. hope that helps!

By the by, if you are having trouble seeing in caves, there is a cave in the Valley of Repose that gives you an item to brighten caves up.

Sean McCord I made a comment saying the same thing! I totally agree, because I was actually having trouble seeing myself in this dungeon. Although, I really hate that cave. I was down to below 50 Pikmin once I reached the boss, and I got extinction on him. You can imagine how I wasn't happy when I was told that that was the best place to farm for purples.....

@@Hunter-et3iy Well, I've just farmed purples and whites there, you just go straight to the exit each sub-level until you reach what you want and then just go to the geyser, I didn't had any trouble, but yeah actually clearing that cave was a pain in the ass!

Stephen, to answer your question: yes big enemies get stuck on the hovering ship underground. They can also get stuck on the onions. Also, a tip: throwing purples on a tall enemy won't always stun them (it depends on how far the purple falls), but you can stun enemies by landing a purple right next to them. And a trap-related tip - White-flower pikmin are fast enough to outrun bombs even when carrying treasures. This has saved my ass so many times on levels with a lot of bomb traps. "We haven't tested this theory" - Stephen. I'm so glad you said that.

Correcting Mal at the end was absolutely correct. Beating up those flame geysers one at a time, then bringing your 8 blue pikmin to the treasure that needs 10, would be a waste of quite a lot of time.

To be fair to Mal though I thought there was no way the Red Pikmin wouldn't have taken it down the center aisle. In Pikmin 1 I'm pretty sure the Pikmin were that stupid and would bring the treasure back to the ship using the fastest route possible even if it meant their death.

First off, WOW Mal that painting looks awesome! :D Welcome to bombs! These things really suck. Single Pikmin scouting is great for triggering lots of traps. Some of them are also activated by treasures passing over, so you do have to keep an eye on your pikmin carrying treasure in the later stages as Stephen said. In previous playthroughs I've had a bomb wait until I had dug up the Anxious Sprout to drop, which was obviously terrifying for me. Purple throwing mechanics are different to other Pikmin as Stephen pointed out. When you aim with them make sure the cursor is lit up purple, when you were less successful with the orange bulborbs the cursor was a grey colour. Hopefully this will help make your aim easier so you have fewer purple fatalities. On the whole though, Mal's aiming was a lot better this episode and she was a lot more composed and confident. With the failed spray trick, you effectively brushed past him to trigger the spray drinking animation, you were very close though, and it isn't an easy trick so don't worry about it! :) Some areas on enemies can't take damage when attacked. Example in this video include dweevil's legs and Bulblax's body. You can the sound effect as well as the blue circles on impact to indicate this. Once you know how to beat him, Bulblax is the easiest boss in the game. He's been nerfed a lot since Pikmin 1, with less health, a smaller size and no super jump attack. While your single white approach was very effective, the best approach is with purples, as they completely break him. If you continuously throw purples at his head, he will remain stunned until he dies, making him completely harmless. A note for later bosses, some of them will have very slow health regen, meaning that a single pikmin attack style is not viable. The gyroid puzzle is a bit of a dick move on the game's part, and is the reason that people have been saying that there are mistakes with the elements. However, this treasure is here to demonstrate the scorch guard and as you observed, blue pikmin are not technically required. On a side note, Mal, please be careful around water! Pikmin aren't THAT stupid, non-blues won't carry objects through water. However, they will carry treasures through fire geysers, electric gates, and toxic fumes even if they're not deactivated so you re right to be weary of them! In terms of Stephen's backseat interaction I was very happy with his advice and support. The time he raised his voice was reasonable and he also recognised what he did and apologised which was very nice of him. Congratulations on completing your first area guys, looking forward to see where you head next! :)

Looked at the other comments posted so far, noticed a great point about bitter sprays. If you're in a pinch, something like the double orange bulborb, don't be afraid to crack out a bitter spray. You're spending a lot of time berry farming so don't be afraid to use your sprays! :)

It is in Pikmin 2! Sometimes they toss the non-blues back into the water though if there isn't much land, but they will throw them away from their current drowning position and usually it buys you time since it re-starts the timer on their drowning.

Another episode, another batch of tips and facts (also Mal did really good today!): I know everyone is freaking out about losing Purples and White, but remember, while they are more tedious to get, they aren't exactly "limited", *and you can still farm for Purples and Whites by going into caves, finding Ivory/Violet Candypop Buds, leaving the cave, and repeating* I'm pretty sure I also just fed Whites to the Emperor Bulbax too, so don't feel too bad, you can still get more if you know where to get them. *People, feel free to comment and tell them where the best places to farm Purples/Whites are* Fun Facts: The Bulb you collected is a Bamboo Shoot, if I recall. I'm sure people have said, but the "baby" Bulborbs aren't babies of the larger Bulborbs. In Pikmin 2's lore, it was recently discovered that Dwarf Bulborbs are actually part of the Breadbug family and mimic the larger Bulborbs for protection. The last treasure being called the "Gyroid Replica" is actually kinda a joke. It's a Haniwa, a Japanese object that was often buried with the dead. The joke is that Gyroids from Animal Crossing are based on Haniwas.

The water at the end technically isn't a hazard, as you are in no way required to go through the water, and the screen at the beginning at the entrance only lists hazards. It's for this reason that you should always bring a good number of every color

I've never played this game but I'm basing my information on other commenters have said. Purple Pikmin will slow down an item when they are carrying it back to the ship and the Purple Pikmin will take longer than normal Pikmin to dig up items and build bridges and stuff like that. White Pikmin are the fastest Pikmin in the game and can bring items back to the ship faster than normal Pikmin and can also build bridges and stuff like that faster then regular Pikmin.

Illion Night this is true but purples are also the best fighters and although it is a slower process than RBY pikmin they can be farmed. You won't have 100 purples by playing each of the caves in the 3 areas once anyway haha

I meant in the context of the first time player or even the experienced player, they are still likely to face purple deaths so would be unlikely to have lost less than 10 pikmin before reaching the final area. Additionally, not using them for combat causes more time loss than farming them efficiently so I would argue that combative purples have better macro efficiency

Illion Night. I would disagree because using purples for combat is your best use of time because they kill enemy's and bosses easily. First of all your never going to get 100 purples by doing every cave ONCE! No matter what you need to grind purples and the best cave to do that is to go to the subterranean complex because there are two queen candypopbuds and three purple candypopbuds so you only need to bring one Pikmin at a time to get fifteen purples. Also Mal is mostly losing purples because she over shots everything!

After watching everything that you two have accomplished on your first playthrough of this game, I must say, congrats on clearing your first area! There were some bumps and bruises accumulated along the way, but that was only to be expected. Overall a job well down! Now for some advice concerning purple pikmin. In fights, purples have twice the strength of yellow, blue, and white pikmin. I am pretty sure that their attack strength is only one above the reds. As you've seen quite a lot by now, people like to use them in battle because of their amazing stun they do when the hit the ground/fall on an enemy from high up, letting you completely destroy them. Grounded enemies like Snagrets however are not able to be stunned, so its not worth using purples on them really. Purples also destroy eggs in one hit, and if those baby spider-like things pop out of the egg throw another purple at them to take them all out in one fell swoop! Also, with the rate that you're going through your purples, you are probably going to have to 'grind' a certain cave in the future for violet candypop buds (which is what the purple flowers are actually called). It'll be annoying and the tinyest bit time consuming, but if you want to 100% you'll need 100 purples in the future! One last thing: Olimar's entries in the Pikolpedia can actually be informative, and might give you a couple of chuckles if you want to read them in your own time. Just a suggestion, its not really necessary. The caves are only going to get tougher from now on, but I know you guys can do it. Just breath and roll with the punches. Good luck!

Oh, I didn't know Mal was a fellow artist! That painting looks awesome! Well, back to the tips. Again, writing as I watch. - One minute into the floor and my heart skipped a beat when she threw the purple at the bomb. I was having Vietnam flashbacks. :') For future reference: throwing a purple close to a bomb *immediately* detonates it. Careful there! - Hoping for a bomb to fall on an enemy is actually a valid strategy, I've used it myself and managed to get a ton of dwarf bulbears killed. Good thinking, Mal! Just a shame you can't always get that lucky... You can also use a few enemies to make them kill each other, such as the cannon beetle larva and another new enemy that actually makes bombs. - Um... Mal? That little bulborb was dead the moment the purple crushed it. No need to add insult to injury. xD (no, but seriously, calm down. Sometimes you need to be careful when throwing) - YES. The game DOES, as a matter of scientifically proven fact get really super trolly sometimes, so always escort your pikmin as they carry back treasure. Especially at this point into the game. Some traps are only activated by treasure too! - 7:14 ANOTHER BEAT. HOLY CRAP GUYS YOU ARE INSANELY LUCKY! Even luckier is that little pikmin. He's gonna remember that for a while. :V - Mal, your terrible aim is costing you pikmin. Again, don't aim directly at an enemy. Aim for the point on the ground under it. Like Stephen said, you're overshooting your throws. That's why the bulborbs didn't get stunned and ate your pikmin. Aim for its butt! - That's gotta be the most unorthodox and slowest way to kill the Emperor Bulblax but... hey, it worked! Just don't keep that strategy of sacrificing the whites, it's kinda dumb. Next time (and, trust me, there will be!) throw a truckload of purples between the eyes *before it comes out of the ground*, and it will be dead infinitely faster. - See? The game wouldn't lie to you! It will certainly throw bombs, rocks and enemies from the sky and make pikmin AI dumb, or put enemies in really jerkish places, or give you heart attacks, and there's Submerged Castle. But it wouldn't lie to you! - If by the end of a cave you have nothing left to do above ground, I recommend going to earlier caves with a few reds so you can convert them to purple or white. You're gonna need them and you can do that off screen. Nice going, guys, keep up the pace!

You guys are definitely getting better, despite the groans caused by how you dealt with the water and harmless FIRE hazards with RED Pikmin, haha. If you try to fight with a single Pikmin in the future, let it be a Red or Purple, preferably flowered to have enough speed to escape. Blue Pikmin can save drowning Pikmin in tight situations. The main weakness to Mal's playing is not differentiating with the "main" cursor and the "far" one. It's better to toss in close range without moving. That also applies to her method of marching because I notice she points the cursor very far away instead of what she is actually aiming at. Keep it up, and reset if necessary!

Hey guys you are doing great so far! I really enjoy this series and I think you guys are doing great for playing pikmin 2 blind... Just some tips from someone who has played through the game a few times: 1) There are 2 cursors... the circle one is where your whistle is and the pattern in the middle is where you are going to throw pikmin... at close range the two are one in the same, however, at long range the two disconnect (hopefully this helps Mal aim a little better) 2) The purples stun enemies when they either hit the ground immediately next to the enemy or if they are going down in their flight... so if you throw them at a spotty bulborb (the big ones) and they are still going up in the throw, they wont stun it.... I usually start aiming right next to some enemies to stun them then proceed to throw all my purples at them. 3) Bomb rocks are devastating but boulders can actually drop from the sky as well and leave only a shadow on the ground before they crash - try to remember that too for upcoming caves. I personally think the boulders are far worse because they usually fall in batches and they don't have a timer unlike the bomb rocks 4) To me, white pikmin are far more expendable than purples as long as you make them when you see a flower... You will need a lot of purples at the end of the game and you never really need more than 15 whites. Also remember white pikmin have the same strength as a blue or yellow despite their smaller size. 5) Use your purple sprays! They freeze enemies so they are extremely easy to kill... I think they are actually better than the pink. However, they do not work well on some bosses so really just use them when u are in a tough position (ex. two enemies near each-other) 6) Those bugs that the bomb killed always drop nectar... very often when cracking eggs they will appear and send all your pikmin into a panic except purples for whatever reason... Throw purples at them to kill them and release their nectar Again great job guys - Your content is great, well-made, and entertaining. Hopefully this stuff helps

Me on my first run of this dungeon: *Heavy Breathing* Okaaayyyyy... I have no clue how to fight this guy... I'll just throw my ten Purple flowers to stun him and get all my Reds on- he's... he's already dead. The song didn't even go past the intro! Also, you got really lucky. Your Sublevel 5 was a lot easier than mine. All the bombs fell in the main area for me, and it wasn't fun.

16:43 you can also get the double potion trick by having a captain touch the spicy spray and right as he touches it, switch to the captain immediately and touch the spray as well. I've seen it done in an LP and done it myself.

The way Mal was going to do it I don't think would've worked because I believe they only had 8 blue pikmin and they needed 10 to carry the treasure, so it wouldn't have just been a headache to get rid of those fire hazards, but it would've ultimately been impossible xD

Dear Steven & Mal, I apologize if you already know this but purple Pikmin have a "homing attack" every time you throw them. They sort of stop at the apex of their throw and come straight down on their opponent, stunning them. That's why you sometimes kill the bolborb really fast and sometimes they eat 6 of your Pikmin. Try standing just a bit closer before you start throwing.

Pointers for the episode: - You can know if it is the final floor even if you skip the falling animation, Stephen. It plays as soon as you can take control and it will say "Final Floor" above the sublevel number. - There are some traps that won't activate if you pass them with only 1 pikmin, they might need a group of at least 5 to activate. These are usually the most cruel, so watch out. - Your approach to explore the entire floor with 1 pikmin is actually a very good option, but I would suggest just exploring by sections, so that you clear out more enemies at a time. This will come in handy later, when there's enemies that have set paths and can actually take you by surprise. - Another way to deal with small Dweevils is to throw a few purples in order to stun and latch onto them. It's risky, but unless the Dweevil is yellow, you won't lose the pikmin immediately when attacked. - I would suggest aiming to the closest section of a bulborb's body when attacking them with purples. This way, you ensure that you stun them on the first few hits. - Dweevils that pick up objects can be hit with a single purple to make them release their cover. - Emperor Bulblax is way easier to fight in this game. If you can, use the bitter spray and throw a lot of pikmin ONTO its face. Later on, you will be able to lure them into eating bomb rocks, which will stun them AND damage them. - Next natural step would be to go back to the Valley of Repose, now that you have all colors. You can also go back to the Perplexing Pool, but navigating it is a bit harder than the Valley. Anyways, good luck on whichever step you decide to take next, Stepehn & Mal! The submerged castle is creeping ever closer!

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but purple pikmin have a bit of homing to their throws (which you can see since they have a slight pause when they're thrown), so their useful for instantly crushing small enemies, but they have a different animation for crushing enemies that causes them to stay with the enemy until their death animation finishes.

A hint to remember about pikmin carrying things, 1. they will take the shortest possible route to base/pod. 2. if the fastest way back is blocked by water or gates non blue pikmin will not carry it into the water, they will either roam back and forth until a path is opened or they will take a longer route. pikmin AI is not good at dealing with threats while moving but they are very good at figuring out how to get back. And a tip for most bosses is to take a small handful of pikmin and test out what it does then retreat, all of the bosses have super easy patterns to follow and until late game very rarely have complications to how you fight them. Purples are great for damage and remember you can use your sprays to strengthen your pikmin and increase the damage ouput immensely

it's a good tactic to throw as many purples as possible bright between the eyes when it's still under ground . they'll start attacking as he's doing his animation of getting out of the ground and it finishes him off quickly even quicker with red potion

Every episode just draws attention to how weird the Hocotate economy is. A bottle cap is worth the same as a diamond, significantly less than half a toy robot, and more than a bamboo shoot. A diamond is also equivalent in value to...a glass marble. And also a 100 yen coin, which is probably the best yet.

The reason that the geyser doesn't kill pikmin is that it doesn't inhibit their ability to breath like water around them does. It's just sending them up and not surrounding them.

There is 1 cave in the third area where you can only take blues, but there are hazards of each type. It's called the submerged castle and is definitely the hardest cave in the area. Also, if there is no water hazard you do not need blues.

something else to note about falling hazards is that in addition to ones that only trigger for captains with pikmin, there are also some that only trigger for pikmin carrying things, so keep a watchful eye on pikmin on their way to back to base

That yellow and white Pikmin are the true troopers of this dungeon. BTW if you're curious exactly how much White Pikmin do when eaten, I found out while playing that when a Snagret eats a single white Pikmin it did about 1/16th of it's health bar. So I can see why people don't see it as a viable strategy.

don't be afraid to use sprays, especially the red ones! you've got a ton, and they're a renewable resource. you haven't really gotten to see how useful they are yet, but they really can go a long way toward damaging bosses and bigger enemies like bulblax mamas, snagrets, etc. -- also, they make all of your pikmin (regardless of color) run as fast as white flowers, which will be practically necessary at one point later on.

I see that the reason that Mal sometimes over-aims is because she is aiming at the targets, and the reticle aims at the ground, so she throws them at the ground that is visually behind the target in that perspective, so further away, when she should be aiming at the ground directly under the target, so the Pikmin land on him. Also, this might be the only time that they decide to show you that you are immune and use a puzzle to do it. The area is a preset area and those times that the game "lies" are rare and due to the random generation on normal levels; boss levels are usually preset levels with a specific layout

just some advice. if you wait until an enemy shakes your pikmin off to call them, you're going to lose some. try to call your pikmin right before the enemy shakes them off. there's usually a visual clue when an enemy is about to do it, so watch for it.

the spiders are called dweevils, red one is a volatile dweevil, theres one for the other three hazards as well(I can remember their names) and then there's the suicidal dweevil which will drop from the ceiling at random and it carries a bomb rock and chases after you and your pikmin

The trick for killing the emperor bulblaxes quickly by throwing a constant stream of purples in between their eyes before they pop up from the ground works in the wii version, I've done it before recently and don't understand why people are saying it doesn't work.

After clearing Awakening Wood, I recommend starting Perplexing Pool. Why? Well on day 30, You get to say hello to a Bulbear, and on day 31 you get a nasty surprise. You probably think: "but I won't take that long!" You will. It takes a lot of time uncovering the passage to Shower Room and Submerged castle.Gluttons kitchen is easy though.

Yeah, this is the scenario when the hazards warning kind of lies. But the reason they don't tell you is because the water isn't a direct threat. The pikmin never need to walk through the water to get the treasure. If anything, this is meant to prove to the player that they are in fact fire resistant.

I know a lot of people dislike that cave in the Perplexing Pool, you know the one, but I'm gonna be honest and say it's not my least favorite. That honor belongs to the forsaken Frontier Cavern. I hate that place with a passion, mainly because of the Boss of that cave. That stupid boss! Good luck when you get there whether it be next or later depending on where you go!

Reminds me of when I first beat Emporer Bulblax in Pikmin I. After losing lots of Pikmin in my first attempt I went back with 100 reds and left 80 outside facing it with 20 at a time. It took all day but it worked.

Okay Mal I think I see what you are doing, and it's wrong. I don't know why, but it is. It looks like you are aiming pikmin at the bodys of the enemy, which causes you to overshoot. I'd say, change to Overhead perspective so that when you are aiming, the reticle is directly on the enemy and you know the pikmin will land/attach where you want them to go, as opposed to behind the shoulder, where you would want to aim at where their shadows are. If a pikmin is being eaten, don't run away. When they are in the process of pikmin consumption, not only are they vulnerable, but the pikmin can actually still be saved if the enemy is killed fast enough. Don't be afraid to use your sprays either. At all. In fact, if an enemy is killed while they are petrified by the purple spray, they can drop nectar or more sprays. An enemy trying to eat pikmin can be petrified, and the pikmin saved, as well. Yeah you don't get the bodies, but underground who cares? Petrify the enemy when they are about 1/3rd dead, spicy spray your pikmin to boost their attack speed, and let loose! Normal enemies drop 1 dose of liquid, boss monsters drop 5 doses of liquids. One last thing, I do not recommend blindly taking whites with you. Just take a Red pikmin or two and try to find out the bosses attacks before making the judgement of whites or no whites. As newer Pikmin players, you never know when an enemy is going to eat or crush pikmin, and since they recover health it would end up being a waste of whites.

Xeno Mata On the thing about bitter sprays, the same is true for stunning enemies with purples. I was taking a squad of 20 purples through a floor of CoC, and one of them got eaten, but we killed the enemy and it was freed.
