We can't draw accurately what we haven't seen accurately. Too often we end up drawing what we've thought we've seen, instead of what is actually there. This is because we haven't observed enough visual information from our reference. In this series of videos Stephen explains the various ways of seeing he has developed to help guide his drawing into greater accuracy.

Thanks again stephen. Watched all 4 videos. Hanging on every word as usual as I watch you draw. Doing a lot of quick sketches without thinking it’s got to be perfect, and likening it to the piano scales (to practice practice practice to gain skill), and to see the relationship between objects, lines, angles and negative spaces. I’m progressing well in my UNTHINKING of my pre-constructs about objects I ‘know about’ !! And giving much more time to observing my reference in the first instance. Guess I’m just repeating what you say: but that means I got it, and applying it ! 😊 thanks again for your most valued videos.

Great series❤ From the first video,it pointed out my mistake, quickly looking at the object and started drawing, which ends up without likeness😂. I learnt a lot of good ways to observe the subject when drawing. Although it will be hard at the beginning and take some time in implementing all the points. I hope I will master it which I learnt from you. Thank you for the lessons.

Love your videos-thanks for sharing. Would you mind posting the original photo you used to draw this. Also, do you offer any online courses and if so, where can I find them. Best, Lowell

Thank you Stephen, i love yours drawings. Very helpful. I'm just starting out, and what really costs me the most is when I start the drawing, keeping the scale. I start with a shape, and as a result of that shape I keep drawing, but either I make it very big or very small. The first forms, do you have any trick so that the scale is appropriate to the paper where you do the drawing? Thanks...🤔

Thanks Javi, great to hear. I have a video on drawing in proportion, and also if you watch my Instagram IGTV recordings of my live demos I talk through my process of keeping things in proportion and talk about how I'm thinking as I do it. I start with the easiest part of the subject to keep in proportion. It can be in a different part of the drawing every time. :)
