In case anyone doesn't know: meatloaf is usually made by mixing ground meat (traditionally beef, but you can use anything) with breadcrumbs and eggs. But there are a million variations. I've had meatloaf that was "meh" and meatloaf that was to die for, it really depends on the recipe and who's making it. Also, you can make ketchup into a glaze by adding brown sugar to it, I'm guessing that's why it was so sweet.

I feel like meatloaf is one of those meals that can really differ depending on the recipe and who is making it. My Mom’s never had that ketchup sauce or whatever that is covering it and it was never sweet. She’d put a little BBQ sauce on top but you could ignore it if you wanted. I always liked the chunks of onions she’d cook in it. I’d also often eat the leftovers in a hamburger bun the next day so I feel you on the burger thing!

Meatloaf has definitely been a staple in my family for many many years. I can't speak for the costco meatloaf because I've never tried it, but homemade meatloaf is great. The recipe that we use isn't just ground beef with a ketchup glaze, it also has onions and stuffing mixed in with the meat, and the glaze is a mix of ketchup and bbq sauce. Maybe you guys could try making a homemade meatloaf too and see how it compares to the costco one

It's interesting hearing how you haven't had meatloaf much, or beef, for that matter! For me, beef was always more common than any other meat growing up, once I stopped being a picky eater lmao. Meatloaf's been an occasional staple for my family my whole life, though, even back when I didn't eat it. It's a really diverse dish! My dad adds onions and carrots to the mix when he makes it

My mom has made several variations of meatloaf over the years. It doesn't matter what ground meat you use, meatloaf will always taste like meatloaf. You can jazz it up with bacon-wrapped meatloaf, you can mix shredded cheese into the meat, you can even put it between two slices of bread and make a meatloaf sandwich, but meatloaf will taste the same no matter what you do to it. Those are my experiences, at least. But one thing is for sure, it pairs extremely well with ketchup.

So, about the mustard. When my mom makes meatloaf, she mixes spicy brown mustard in with the raw meat (along with several out things), so mustard is not that far fetched. Although lately we’ve been enjoying a thanksgiving meatloaf recipe her and my sister found (not sure where, I’d have to ask), which has stuffing/dressing and cranberries.
@DonnieReno4 ай бұрын
I use a meatloaf recipe from my sister-in-law. We make it without using any kind of a filler, no breadcrumbs, no oatmeal. We use a pound of ground beef, a pound of ground pork, and a pound of Italian sausage then add the onions and garlic salt and pepper and whatever else the recipe calls for. Then we just shape it into a loaf. It kinda looks like a football actually. Then we just put it on a sheet, not into a loaf pan. Then cook and eat. Much lower carbs. And then we will sometimes make meatloaf sandwiches so that makes it kind of like a hamburger that we can put on bread and add tomato pickle, onion slices, etc.

My mother would do tomato paste on top. I'm not sure if she did anything special with tomato paste, but it had the thickness it. She also used oatmeal instead of breadcrumbs in the loaf. I'm on the opposite side of you two; we had meatloaf a _lot_ when Dad was still with us. After that (he passed in Oct 2018) I haven't had meatloaf at all, because I kind of got tired of that kinda food. I mostly eat chicken these days and very rarely beef, because chicken is 1) cheaper and 2) I honestly like it more than any other meat. The Swedish meatloaf variant is pretty different to the one you had since, among other things, we definitely don't 'glaze' it in ketchup (and it sounds like that's a thing Americans do?). I think that would absolutely make me like it less. :P

Meatloaf is better when you make it yourself, with my family it's just simple: ground beef with salt, pepper, minced onions, breadcrumbs, an egg, yellow mustard and tomato sauce (I don't know why people use ketchup). Then we put it in a baking dish, place chunks of block cheese in it, ad some more tomato sauce on top, cover in foil then bake it until it's cooked all the way through.

So there's something I don't understand: you'll take the time to edit out the oven whistling, but not the eating sounds? Is it just that much more work to do where you don't consider it worth the time? Do you just not hear the eating sounds at all somehow?? Like I have my volume turned down on my end and am listening through my monitor's lackluster built-in speakers and I can _still_ hear them to the point of nausea, please, someone reassure me that I'm not alone in this being An Issue...
@Kamakiri864 ай бұрын
You may have something called Misophonia "People with misophonia are affected emotionally by common sounds - usually those made by others, and usually ones that other people don't pay attention to. Ex: breathing, yawning, or chewing". Might be something to look into.✌
@PuppyLuver2564 ай бұрын
@@Kamakiri86 Appreciate the suggestion (and I mean this genuinely! 💖) but I am, both fortunately and unfortunately, well aware of my having misophonia. Fortunately because "oh good there's a name for it which means others feel my pain" and unfortunately because "okay so I know What's going on but Too Few Other People Seem To Notice Or Care". I guess my lament about hoping I'm not alone in that was more in the sense of hoping that I'm not the only one here who would greatly appreciate at least _some_ courtesy editing done on the eating sounds if at all feasible, 'specially since he's already said he records room noise for such purposes of muting Ol' Whistley during cooking clips and other such obnoxiousness that's more noticeable to most people. Last time I commented along those lines I got a reply from someone who couldn't hear them at all and then proceeded to bring up a previous joke vlog with intentionally loud chewing sounds For The Joke as a sort of bizarre counterargument to...my disgust at ambient chewing?? As if that was even relevant to trying to listen to Stephen talk while there was chewing in the background?? Like I still don't care for it when it's just For The Joke, but at least then I can turn my volume down further and not miss the actual discussion topic of the vlog...
