I'm going to join you in this no caffeine thing. I currently rely too heavily on it and it's not great for my health. Lack of sleep was definitely one of the things that landed me in the hospital last year, and it was most definitely caused by the crazy amount of energy drinks I was having. 😬

The only caffeine I intake is soda but oh my god it made a TON of a difference when I tried cutting it. For some reason I still take a long time to fall asleep, but I can get up and out of bed easier without caffeine. It's annoying and while I try to aim for caffeine once or twice a week, I sometimes don't quite make it. But I am definitely seeing a difference without as much caffeine in me. With me getting back into caffeine again, it's messing up my ability to wake up D:

Automatic feeder was life changing for me with my two cats. One recommendation is I bet Keppy is smart enough to start rattling the feeder to get a few extra pieces out between meal times. A small rug will dampen the sound to prevent that from waking you up. Just if that becomes an issue... One of my cats doesn't bother but the other (the larger one, shocker) makes a lot of noise with the those machines just by rattling them and sticking his paw up the food slot.

My cat has separation anxiety, too, and it was rough for the first month that I had him because I just couldn't get any sleep. If I let him into my bedroom, I couldn't sleep because he wanted to be on my face at all times, and I'm a very, VERY light sleeper so that didn't work. I eventually resorted to closing my door when I go to bed but Kaito's sorta like Kepler in the way that he desperately claws at my door and pushes himself up against it while wailing loudly for _hours_ . However, it seems like he's getting more independent at night, slowly but surely. I think it may have to do with the fact that I give him a little bit more dry food for the night so he always _has_ dry food and won't have to rely on me that much. So I hope this works in a similar way for you, because as important it is that our cats are happy and healthy, the same goes for us humans, too. We've gotta be able to sleep, simple as that. :P

My family's old cat had a big weight issue so my dad got one of those auto-feeders to regulate her food intake. Don't worry about Keppy not knowing when the food is coming. Whenever the motor of that thing started whirring to dispense the food our cat would suddenly, regardless of what she was doing beforehand, bolt in the direction of the feeder.

as crazy as this may sound, your naps might be causing part of the problem. my mom has been a non-sleeper for more then 30 years and a few years ago after doing a sleep study the doctor recommended my mom sleep deprive herself, she wasn't allowed to laydown or do anything that put her to sleep for 18 hours at which point she laid down and got a full nights rest for the first time in 30 years. the reason this worked was because my mom was getting little naps here and there throughout the day (like dozing while watching a TV show) which meant she was never fully rested but never tired enough to actually sleep more then 3 hours every night.

Before the pandemic caffeine didn't really affect me negatively much. But since march of 2020 caffeine has started triggering my anxiety and causing anxiety attacks. So I had to cut out coffee and energy drinks altogether. I was hoping as the world turns back to normal I could have a normal relationship with Coffee again, but I believe it just opened something that I won't so easily be able to put a lid on. Now I just avoid coffee during stressful times and only drink it when I really need the energy boost.

I still recommend that you contact a trainer if at all possible to try and start working on Keps separation anxiety. Not a cat expert, but as someone who has raised puppies and has read a lot of training books, I would recommend starting to train Kep to get more used to being alone. So for example, start by closing the door and leaving him alone for a minute. If he doesn’t meow or hurt himself reward him with some good scratches. Ideally, only come out of the room when Kep isn’t vocal. Do that every day and just slowly start increasing the time. Even if it’s only by a few seconds each day. You essentially want to make being along a more familiar event and want to expose him to the fact that things will be ok if he’s left alone. And the only way to do that is to slowly get him more use to the concept.

I remember when I did a "tea and water cleanse" towards the end of my college years. I was drinking espresso shots, lattes, soda, basically I was up to nine or ten espresso shots worth of caffeine a day. During the last three weeks of college, I cut out coffee and (caffeinated) soda and just had tea and water (sometimes an orange soda or a sprite). The headaches lasted two days, but on day three, I felt much better and I had more energy. After I finished college, I went back to drinking coffee, but limited myself to one cup per day (although I'll get a latte or frappuccino as a treat every once in a while). When I did this cleanse, I realized I wasn't drinking enough water, and started carrying a water bottle around at all times.

I've been testing this kinda thing recently, limiting my coffees to one a day at most. But I cut out everything but water and quality meals between friday evening and saturday evening, which I also try to force myself to do no work. I'm not religious like that but I think it's a good idea. Thanks for sharing your experience there

Good luck to Stephen and any and all who try the No Caffeine Challenge and stay safe! I had an addiction once and tried to cut it off cold turkey and became incredibly ill and fatigued on the very first day. I was at work when I went down and had to get picked up. If you can't do it cold turkey, no shame in just slowly decreasing the amount of caffeine you take in a single day, whether it be fewer cups of coffee/tea or substituting coffee with tea or decaf. It's a rough process, but it is indeed very worthwhile getting off that dependency!

Stephen it's pretty wild that you're cutting out caffeine right now because just 20 minutes before watching this vlog I saw a reddit post about how being dependent on caffeine can be dangerous. Just from that I considered cutting it out so I'm definitely joining you in this challenge. I usually use coffee to keep me awake while I'm at work but it also keeps me up at night so maybe this will help me sleep better. Good luck with the challenge!

As someone who is already off caffeine, I am happy to join in on this challenge for an easy victory haha. Friends can't understand how I do it, but I have never had a huge issue with getting awake, as i've never become dependent on it. Life without caffeine will be filled with occasional lulls, but ultimately it feels like you are naturally ready to work when it best fits your brain

I never had coffee or caffein in general bc I love water too much, but everyone I heard that got over their dependence said they feel way better. Hope that motivates you!

I wish you guys the best of luck! I haven't really had caffeine for the last couple of years. I dislike coffee, and since going to college and having my own expenses I haven't bought much soda. I'm going to join the challenge by trying to cut down on sugar consumption though! I want to improve my diet, and that's one thing that I can do in tandem. Good luck, I hope everyone is successful in their goals!

I’ve only gotten more tired in my late 20s. I’m actually consuming more caffeine recently and becoming less sensitive to it. I can have a coffee in the afternoon and still sleep fine whereas years ago if I had a caffeine past 2 I’d wake up super duper early. But I’ve had no problems falling asleep at all.

If Keppy is like my girl, he'll be at that feeder 5 minutes early waiting to pounce in like a week. Also if you haven't learned yet, it does take a few pushes to fill the feeding wheel.

I’ve also been trying to cut out a lot of pop from my diet mostly for sugar reasons. I looked at the scale finally and did not like what I saw. So exercise and eating healthier here I come. It’s also nice that I bought an exercise bike that ive been using while rewatching naruto with my wife XD

This comes at an opportune time. Ive been on a caffeine break really just due to end of semester so I took a week to taper it down and Im going to green tea tomorrow for 2-3 days then I'll be fully off for maybe 3 weeks I'm going for.

As someone who hasn’t had caffeine in almost 3 years my advice is if you’re going to quit it cold turkey like I did be prepared for the worst week of your life. There will be a lot of headaches and you will be tired a lot. But in the end it is incredibly worth it. I don’t have mid day crashes and have a better quality of sleep. I have no plans on having caffeine again in my life.

I only drink honey lemon black tea, which doesn't affect me in terms of the caffeine. I occasionally have coffee when I'm craving a soy latte from Starbucks but even then, the 1 shot of espresso doesn't really affect me either. Now I'm only drinking one mug of tea for breakfast and water during the day at the office job. And maybe the occasional sugar drink or ginger honey/lemon ginger tea when cravings hit. I could never drink soda though...too many bubbles. 😣

I already don't drink caffeine, have done so for the past 4 years now. Ever since I started getting jitters and muscle spam because of my anxiety, I had to switch to decaf tea or coffee. I've felt a lot better ever since. I also limited my intake of how much pop I drink, as I started drinking diet stuff instead.

Less than a month ago I cut caffeine for like a week after I noticed how bad my withdrawal headache was because I hadn't drank soda *by noon*. After a few days I found it easier to wake up? Like huh? I'm still tired in the day and I still have issues falling asleep but I can somehow feel motivated to get out of bed??? It also affects my blood pressure so there's that too With stress happening in the past weeks I've been getting back in caffeine, and I'm gonna try again to only have caffeinated soda every 5 days or something with your vlog. Rn I'm just drinking the sprite with 0 sugar.

I switched to full on water, no sodas, (I never drank coffee or tea to begin with) and no flavored powder in water or Gatorade ect. My blood flow has never felt better.

I have some potentially relevant experience with caffeine. For years I've pretty much exclusively only drank coke and had a similar "immunity" to caffeine as you, but I also happen to have IBS or similar, and several years ago I decided to try and see if stopping coke could maybe help (and it's obviously healthier anyway). Well, sadly it didn't help with the bowel issues (or anything really) but what it did change is that I lost my caffeine immunity. Or rather specifically: it still doesn't energize me or anything (which I don't need, I've always been super wired by default already), but now caffeine keeps me up, and I already have enough problems sleeping.

I stopped consuming caffeine a couple years ago when I realized it gives me some upset stomach issues. Before that I didn't have much caffeine. But when I did my stomach got messed up

Haha, umm... have you ever gone without caffeine for any length of time? Withdrawals can be pretty umm.... yeah. Be ready for massive headaches to the point where you feel like you’re going to throw up. Depending on how often you consume it. Ah ok, later you addressed the withdrawal symptoms... yeah best of luck, also... if i’m not mistaken tea you mentioned may actually have caffeine in them. So I mean... best of luck!

i cannot sleep again like you do its like yknow when you were super tired before and you open your eyes and its sore? and when you close your eyes, you feel so good now when i close my eyes, i can still feel the soreness and i dont feel that good anymore, i have no idea why

Auto-focus was slightly too sensitive on the couch, outer edges kept jumping back and forth every time you moved your hand or jaw. As for caffeine, I never take anything with it, so I'll have to let this one slide.

Since I don't drink coffee and usually have about a bottle of coke a month or so (unless I have to skip on sleep for a week like in March thanks to university, when it was like 5 bottles a day) I'm down to join you for this 'challenge' no problem.

I definitely can’t cut out caffeine. Even with 8+ hours of sleep, the dog handling job I do takes so much out of me I’m still tired after 6 hours of being on my feet. I wish everyone else luck, though!

I unfortunately cannot have coffee because it fucks with hormones a lot. I drink once every few months now. But I will let myself enjoy some black tea from time to time. If was a struggle at first, but it's fine now!

Not drinking caffeine isn’t really a problem for me; I very rarely have soda, I don’t drink caffeinated tea, and coffee is something I typically don’t enjoy at all. So yeah I think I can do the no caffeine challenge.

3:50 Have you gotten tested by a doctor for General Anxiety Disorder? The sleeping thing is one of the main things, and caffeine is a contributor to that. Plus, working under constant timelines and pressure could be exacerbating things. Idk about the specifics of your mental health, but it may be a thing to think about.

I definitely can't do no caffeine Stephen I work at Starbucks xD I drink too much especially while Im at work but im pretty sure almost all baristas do that. I might try to cut down on how much caffeine I have though because I also take meds for ADHD and shouldn't be mixing this much caffeine with them.

No caffeine? I been doing that for years now, now sugar would be hard for me. I drink hot chocolate for breakfast with my cereal, and while I mostly drink sugary juice or lemonade for my other meals, I do occasionally have sprite and other sodas with no caffeine. But as anyone knows, that's still quite a bit if sugar.

I was raised mormon where coffee and tea are evil, I dislike soda, and energy drinks scare me. Being caffeine free is very viable. although teeeechnically there is caffeine in chocolate but it is microscopic in comparison.

@@morgancrabtree6248 yeah I would give it a try, a lot of people in the comments have said that cutting out the caffeine actually helped them feel better after a while, so maybe part of the crappy feeling your getting is just withdrawal symptoms.

As someone that already has insomnia and anxiety, caffeine always seemed like a poison to me Like I have always been aware that it will have a short term positives and many long term negatives for me All I can say is I am hoping that you can get some sleep, Stephen
