I know how annoying unsolicited advice can be. Can I interest y’all in a hurricane story? We stayed during Irma because we had literal gallons of water stored up, cans and cans of food, we’re on the second floor, and my husband is quite a capable outdoorsman. My only concern was if a tree were to fall on us, or if we were to have a tornado pop up. The night it hit us, my family was fast asleep, but I had convinced myself I needed to stay awake in case one of those tall, skinny, bendy AF pine trees crashed through our home. I stayed up all night, and when my husband woke up and stood in front of me the next morning, I hallucinated that he was stretching up toward the ceiling (I don’t do well with sleep deprivation😅). I said to him, “you’re getting so tall.” And literally passed out. Anywaaaaay I’m glad you and your family is safe and had a place to stay! Try and make the best of it! Evacuation Vacation? Ok I’m done.

We evacuated from Pawleys on the same day, and also with two kitties, and also to inland Georgia. It was adorable to watch our kitty Sunshine walk around the car trying to figure out where the heck he was. He was incredibly brave until the windshield wipers turned on. Didn't leave his carrier again after that. We then had a full blowout on a tire of the car my dad was driving less than 10 miles from the hotel because of course we did. I'm still glad we evacuated, and I'm relieved that y'all did too. Hope our houses are fine when we get back!

I cannot even imagine what it would feel like to evacuate your home. Our home is supposed to be our refuge from this crazy world that we live in. To have to leave and wondering if the house will still be intact is something I have never experienced. I am happy that all of you will be safe. Also, I do apologize if my previous post made it seem as if I was trying to tell you what to do in terms of evacuating. Based on the weather models at that time evacuating seemed like the best idea. I felt that it would be better to leave and be safe rather than stay and put yourself in danger. Luckily, Florence weakened a lot prior to landfall and I feel the situation will be better, though lots of rainfall can still occur, especially if it does stall. I feel more confident that all of your homes will be fine or will just have some minor damage. Finally, you are fortunate to have such a great friend like Emile. He’s truly the best!

@Skystarry756 жыл бұрын
Unpredictable storms are the worst. When they are that unpredictable, it's probably best to evacuate, just in case. I understand that it's not easy (though, I've luckily never had to do so myself) but when even the experts aren't sure, the potential best case scenarios and worst case scenarios are more extreme, and the risks are become difficult to weigh. Also, good on Chugga for helping out and giving everyone a place to stay! I know it was probably difficult because there'd be 5 people, 4 cats and a rabbit in the same house, but I think the benefits of not having to worry about his friends (or their family) was enough.

I'm glad to see that all of you are safe. I remember Hurricane Sandy back in back in 2012. I live in the northern area of New Jersey. We didn't get hit too hard. Heavy rain, wind was a bit on the high side. No damage to our house, but our power was out for two weeks. Lines around the block at gas stations, very cold every night, downed trees and power lines creating road blocks, etc. Not a fun time. Oddly enough, the last KZbin video I watched before I lost power was one of your vlogs. I can't remember which one it was for the life of me, but I do remember that you two were living in the second apartment at the time. Anyways, sorry to gush about myself. Just wanted you to know that you can make it through this. Best wishes!

I think that beyond everything, your life is more important than your stuff. If it's seriously important, try your best, but stuff is replaceable. Your life is not. Now I don't have any experience with hurricane situations (the closest being when a water main _exploded_ and nearly flooded the house, and tornado warnings) since I live in the northeast tornado part of Texas, but I do have family that was in Houston for Hurricane Harvey. She was stuck in a hotel for a month, her house got a few inches of water in it, and it was terrible. But I'm still glad that she's here and that the hurricane didn't get her. It's also great that people like Emile exist because people like that are one in a hundred million.

You're making a good choice. I'm a Florida native and have been through quite a few. A hurricane is nothing to take lightly. I've seen lower category storms do more damage than higher one's sometimes. Ziplock bags can help a lot to prevent water damage. Having extra water should be a priority too. If you get bad flooding all the water gets toxic.
